Over time the back of your La-Z-Boy Recliner may become loose. In this video, we cover 5 easy steps to remove, tighten, and install the back of your La-Z-Boy Recliner.
What You'll Need : amzn.to/2ss8uUP
Removing the Recliner Back
1) Roll the Recliner Forward
2) Locate the Locking Brackets on The Back of The Chair
3) Pull the Locking Levers Up with Slotted Screwdriver
4) Roll the Recliner Back to Normal Position
5) Rock the Back from Side-to-Side in an Upward Motion
Fix This Common Problem While the Back Is Off
The brackets on the back of your La-Z-Boy Recliner can get loose over time. While the back is off, tighten the screws on both brackets to make the back more secure.
You can also tighten the exposed screws on the back bracket of the body.
Installing the Recliner Back
1) Align the Brackets with the Back at a Slight Angle
2) Roll the Recliner Forward
3) Push the Locking Levers Down with Slotted Screwdriver
4) Roll the Recliner Back to Normal Position
5) Test Installation by Gently Twisting from Side-to-Side

Thank you so much! My husband was trying to disassemble our old chair to put out for bulk pick up night. I remember when it was delivered that the back was separate but the guy easily put it together. Finally I found your video which talked about the "locking levers" and it came apart with ease.

We have an old Lazy Boy recliner that does not have a release. Their is a tab that prevents the back from being lifted off. After several frustrating hours, I finally took out two bolts on the front bracket that holds the seat and four screws toward the back of the seat. They were phillips and hard to get at. I got them out with vise-grips. The seat then slides out and the back will tip back far enough to be lifted out. I will replace those screws with bolt head screws when I put it back so I can use a wrench which would be much easier.

Hello sir so I'm sitting here listening to Christmas music on my phone after busting my butt all day to make my family a meal and I want you to know that my chair is hanging in there and that your video was awesome and I appreciate you so much and your video cause I'm hurting like woah right now but atleast I have some where to sit and sleep you don't know my whole story but it's alot. Well I watched 45 secounds of the video after spending hours on my own trying to find out what was broke it is poorly put together but nothing was broke and just as soon as I saw you show the locks I reached my hand back and put my hand right on the problem it's all fixed up and good now but the way mine was made looks like more work to come one day but I Thank You so so so much for this video you don't understand how much and for how many reasons but Thank You so much and Awesome beard too.

I can’t get the 2 brackets to align and push down. One side keeps coming off. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I simply think I dont have the coordination anymore lol

Hi! The backs come off of all La-Z-Boy recliners, however, they do not come off reclining loveseats or sofas.

I just received the Joel lazy boy recliner I got the back on but I cannot lock the locking lever if I don’t do it is there anything wrong with leaving it unlocked

Technically, there is nothing wrong with leaving it unlocked but during use the back portion can slide and possibly become dislodged. So, keep that in mind while using the recliner.

Well, one side simply won't release. I found the levers and flipped them up. It released one side, but the other side is either completely jammed up or the lever isn't working, because it is locked tight. I'm about ready to take the sledge hammer to it at this point.

Hey I been wondering about doing this for some time now myself. Because when they came and installed it, it was in two parts. I'd love to do this and also add some extra padding that I already have laying around still wrapped up. I was wondering though, is the procedure any different here than it would be with an electric recliner? Because mine happens to be fully electric and I wouldnt want to start unscrewing things and get caught up in wires. So if you could let me know if that will be a problem please do! Appreciate the video and thank you so much!

Hi Joe! The process is the same for power recliners. Make sure to unplug your recliner from the wall first and if you see wires in the back disconnect them before removing the back.

I finally got the back on the base of the Casey Lazy Boy wall recliner, but now I need advise on how to find and pull the locking levers down. I have tried with a flat head screw driver but cannot really tell where the levers are or how to pull them down, since the chair is assembled. Help?

just got one does the 2 brass hinge type brackets facing inwards get taken off and then replace both screws

Hey Maximus, for this process you should not need to remove any brackets or pieces.

@@FurnitureAcademy the brass sliders do they go in 1st then on down to the black slider to fit it does not look like enough space infact it would rip with no space on each side i have fitted the 2 on each side easy enough so its only the middle back to slide it on down

yes, except you will have power cables that you will need to disconnect as you pull the back rest off the base.

WHAT LEVERS??? I have a 2year old lazyboy and when i shine a flashlight inside the back where you show the levers, all i see is a hinge......maybe you shouldn't just assume we know what you're talking about and point the camera into the opening?? I called the LAzyboy store - they're coming by to disassemble the chair.
