I would feel somewhat offended by some of these direct statements. I'd say use Situational Leadership where the language and way of behaving are different from person to person, depending on what that person needs. I always immediately do what I am asked and appreciate it when someone is polite. But some people might not do that, so they need more direct and firm instructions. So I'd say to use these depending on who you are communicating with as some might take it bad. It would kill my motivation and I would actually ask my manager why he/she treats me like I'm a kid. I am also a Swede, which could perhaps be cultural differences even though Situational Leadership is amazing.

Hi Ann, I have a question. I have a close friend A, A always take her bf attending our meeting for the meal, this guy never pays the bill but he always claims that he is a gluten-free person, no green, no flavour no sugar no no no, only mean meat, we are felt very offended and feel bad, as he only eat the main dish and the rest of us have to save for this BAD manner guy, we all educated and do not want them to feel bad, but could we find some polite way to express what we felt? also, before the meal finished this guy begin play games on the cellphone, do you think in English culture it is rude?
1. I can help you only today for your project and then i need to work on my project to complete on time. 2. I need my book for my project reference, when can i get it back?
Great Content Thank You Don't need to apol Clear concise Use stat that starts with I Direct effect Don't use 'just, I think, I try should would I want, I need, I must
In the Asian culture where I work at, it is VERY RUDE to speak in the ways you've suggested. As a manager, I was heavily penalized for using "I want/ I need" or "When will you submit...". My supervisor said my team hated this selfish and demanding ways of work and told me to use "Could you perhaps just help with..."
Thank you for sharing. There are certainly differences in terms of what is appropriate and respectful from one language/culture to the next. In English-speaking culture, to use these forms appropriately, it's important to control the tone of our voice and to sill include polite vocabulary such as please and thank you. If our tone is too strong, it can be very rude and demanding .
1 I can help that work when my work goes on schedule. I’ll let you know if I’m available. 2 I need the book I borrowed now, when can I pick it up? I’m grateful for your mindful and clear lessons, truly sensational.
Thanks so much for this video. It's helpful. I have had a hard time being assertive and have boundaries in a classy way. Here are my attempts: Situation 1 Hi John, I need to discuss with you about work. I've recently been assigned to do a project. So that will be my priority. I won't be able to stay back to help you out with your work anymore. But if you really get stuck and need help, don't hesitate to email me and I will have a look on my schedule to see when I can go through the work with you. Situation 2 Hi Claire, I need my book back when I can I pick it up?
You're welcome! And you're right. It isn't always easy to be assertive and set boundaries. However, it's helpful to know how and have the language to do so. Wonderful work on the examples you provided. 😀
Thank you for the lesson suggestion, Victoria. I can certainly add that to my list of future lesson topics. Meanwhile, you might find the following lesson helpful. 1. I love being helpful to finish your project but I need to finish my projects on time. 2. I need to get my book that I borrowed you a year ago. When I get it back?
