When I was a kid I used to climb up on them. I swam in the river above and below the falls It was very popular and a lot of people used to climb them. I really wish they had put in the new underground power plant on the Waterford side. It would have generated 5 times the amount of power the old plant on the Cohoes site does. FERC ignored the laws and gave the old plant a renewal when they were already expired and they had not submitted a plan but the new plant did. We would have had a marina above the falls with the new dam that would have made Cohoes a much more profitable city Very sad to see politics talking away the benefits of the new plant.
