I couldn't agree more! The Chase Long Note feature it's a real time-saver and has made my workflow so much more comfortable, especially for those of us who work extensively with MIDI.
I am so glad you made this video!! These are things I've wondered about, but was in a hurry or procrastinated and didn't learn. You are always thinking ahead for us!! Thank You!!
Damn. I wish I knew this earlier today. I'm new to using a DAW and have Studio One. I was zooming in and out and would sometimes lose where I was. Those two short cuts alone would have saved me half a headache today. Thanks again Gregor for another informative video.
Thanks! What I like most about your videos, aside from how useful they are, is that you get right to the point with none of the extraneous bs that so many others fall into.
If you're mixing, or editing, and you want the playback to continue to start at a certain point, you can just drop a "play start marker" at that point by hitting "alt p." A little green marker will appear, and no matter where you're cursor is, when you hit play, it will start at the green play marker. When you're done with it, just hit "alt p" again. I use this all the time with "auto-punch." I put the play marker a bar or two before the punch marker, and each time I do a new take, it automatically starts at the same spot.
For fasten zooming I use: Ctrl(Cmd) + mouse wheel to zoom vertically and Ctrl(Cmd)+Shift+ mouse wheel to zoom horizontally, but zoom selection is very useful.
Great tips, as always! For the first one you 9with default settings0 you can hit 0 and that will bring you back also Just sayin! Love Studio One Keep creating. You know what it is
Re #2 - potential downside is that for long, evolving patches S1 (or any other DAW, too) doesn't play the sound from that particular position, but from the start. So, if you have a plucky pad, you'll now hear the pluck in the middle of it, not only at the beginning. This might be misleading, if someone doesn't know what's happening :) Also, at 2:02 please make the MIDI notes within the clip use the whole vertical space, like it works in Pattern Clips. All I can see there is an almost flat string of notes and it's hard to tell what's going on there.
Great great video as always, is your Atom on a stand? It looks like it's propped up, I been looking for something like that for mines to make space on my desk
Hi, I'm using a small DJ stand. There's many different ones, they should all work great. Mine is from ReLoop, but that particular one is no longer available for purchase I believe. -GBY
if you used ableton or logic in a past, its a so disappointing when you can see is no LFO MIDI in Studio one, is very useful for sound design, if they add LFO MIDI i will come back and buy it because that DAW is simply good and future@@patrickm.4469
Yes, more midi tools are needed. Envelopes, LFOs, Random sources, etc. They should take a page from Bitwigs book in that regard. Also give me the ability to midi automate/midi map the bypass button on note fx! WHY CAN I NOT TURN ON OR OFF NOTE FX ON A MIDI CONTROL OR THROUGH AUTOMATION?!
Are you using Studio One Artist or Professional? Each one comes with different features. You can compare here: www.presonus.com/en-US/studio-one-compare.html
Can you please tell me if it is possible to set free movement on the project by clicking on the mouse wheel (as in cubase) ? Why is the tool selection made if the right mouse button does the same thing?
Hi, which feature are you referring to specifically? I do have something on Ghost Copy Events...please let me know if this is what you had in mind. :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lgnT0TmgOpM.html -GBY
this was great - but could you show how to setup a standard setup with instruments loaded? 90% of my time i want to add a new project with exactly the same drums , bass and support channel .. I want these 3 channels load the standard instruments... how-to?
Hi Keith, a great way to do this is by creating a Default Song. Here's how to do that: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wVNfeVKQN6g.html Alternatively, you could create a Song Template: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GzBa-dnIxgE.html ...hope this helps! -GBY
Can projects be moved from one DAW to another in order to use the features of one DAW that the other doesnt have? ie use Studio one to form a song and then send it to say Ableton or Bitwig for its clip launcher(or whatever)? lets assume they are all the basic free/lite(cakewalk or ableton) or cheapest($99) versions(Studio one or Bitwig). I coming from 4 and 16 track Tascams recorders of the mid 90s. So this is all new to me(are any in DOS?)
Hi, completely unrelated to the video, I'm having a stupid issue that a colleague of mine Studio One doesn't have. The bpm opens at 120.00 and if I drag up or down it immediately shows four decimal places that my colleague's Studio One doesn't show. If I use the mouse's wheel it goes back to no decimals or if I write the tempo. Needless to say that I had never experienced decimals showing while dragging up or down and now I need to know how to disable whatever is making that behavior happen. Thanks for any help cause this is driving me nuts.
I think it's because it can create some unexpected behaviors for people working with longer Samples in Impact XT / SampleOne XT...that's the only reason I can think of. :) -GBY
Zoom Overview would have helped a lot a few days ago. I don't know if this is user error or a bug in 6.5, but I was having a bear of a time trying to scroll to the end of my project. I'd get almost there and it would stop scrolling, so I couldn't edit the very end of a track. Eventually I was able to do it somehow, but the usual, most obvious scrolling methods were not working.
Hi John, glad this video helped you out! Perhaps the Song End Marker position threw Studio One off a little bit there. If this happens again, you could try and adjust the Song end point in the Song Settings. This shouldn't happen however...if you're running into this more frequently, please consider issuing a bug ticket so that we can look into this together: my.presonus.com/support/open -GBY
Hi, please make sure to submit this as a feature request and we might implement it soon! answers.presonus.com/categories/studio-one-feature-requests -GBY
I have a feature request if its possible to implement or if its already a thing and I just dont know about it could somebody please let me know how to do it... When I edit a MIDI event and slice the event from the one end and another end I sliced it at, and then delete the event, and simply just drag the event left or right, if I want it back, if I choose to drag the event back to its original position after I made the slice and delete, the MIDI notes from where I dragged the event have disappeared. Why dont the notes stay intact after I make a slice and drag MIDI events?
Hi, please toggle the "Cut long notes at part end" Preference (found in the chapter "Advanced" -> "MIDI") to achieve your expected behavior. Hope this helps! -GBY
Hola estimado!!! Gracias, aguardo respuesta.💪💪
Regarding the playhead: I must have set mine differently. It stops exactly where I pause. (I like this for lining up multiple events or edits, etc). However, when I single tap Return, it goes back to where I started if I need. If I double tap on Return, it goes to the very beginning of the song. So I have all 3 at my fingertips. 😉
Hi, this determines if the overlapping events should play at the same time, or if the latter event should mute the previous one during playback. Hope this helps! -GBY
Hello, as there's no midi connectors on my new IOstation24c I've had to buy usb c to midi connectors. I plug this into the back of my Mac. When I hit the keys on my keyboard there's a slight delay on triggering Impact etc. Any suggestions of how to fix this? What if I plugged the usb c into the Thunderbolt input? Thanks.
Hi, in the Audio Device Preferences, try setting the block size to 64 samples. Dropout Protection (found in the "Processing" tab of the Audio Device Preferences), ensure that it is set to "Off" or "Minimal". If you run into CPU issues, you can increase the Dropout Protection by clicking on the Performance Meter (found at the bottom left of the Transport Bar). Hope this helps! -GBY
Hi, the note letters should appear automatically when you increase the vertical zoom of the Notes. An easy way to do this is by scrolling up while holding down cmd (on Mac) or ctrl (on Windows). You can also use Shift+W / Shift+E. Hope this helps! -GBY
@@presonus Oh no way, I can't believe this has always been a thing 🤦♂ Thanks for the tip, Gregor! - I'd have to think that many users wouldn't realise this either, as we never really need to zoom vertically on midi notes.... any chance we can get the dev team to make it always visible by just displaying a smaller font size that fits the the default note size? 🤞🙏
Anyone know how to fix audio input showing on I/O but not when I select the input on track, (blue bar is moving showing input in I/O but no indication of input on the track)
Hi, are you on MacOS? It's possible that you have to allow Audio Input control for Studio One in the MacOS Security / Privacy settings first. Hope this helps. -GBY
"Cursor follows edit position" is a little annoying as when changing note lengths and positions in the midi editor, as it moves the cursor to the note. So you still have to re-position the edit cursor to the start of the item you are editing.
I need helppppp I selected all my vocal tracks and right click on them and add a bus for selected tracks and start to mix when I was almost done for some reason I couldn't make any changes to a single track, I would have to use the bus if I want to lower the volume but I only want to fix one track not all of them 😢 How can I fix that ?
Hi Johnny, it sounds like you accidentally grouped the Tracks by accident, or had multiple selected at the same time. To fix this, left click the Track you want to adjust (to ensure that all other Tracks are deselected). Also, please try right clicking on the Track and selecting "Dissolve Group" if that's not greyed out already. Hope this helps. -GBY
Thanks for that, Gregor. Maybe you have already done a video on this, or perhaps it could be a great topic for another video, explaining how to customize the look of the waveforms in Studio One. I believe it could be manageable and similar to what Pro Tools allows inside its environment. This would involve turning on very thin black outlines around the waveform in the color of the user's choice or making the waveforms transparent with extra features inside the waveform. This approach would demonstrate the gain line and automation inside the waveform in a similar manner to the Pro Tools graphically has to offer (in Pt view toggle shortcut). In case this feature is not developed yet, it could be another consideration for coders to make some graphic adjustments that would help identify automation, gain, and many other signal control features because obviously it could be a straightforward enhancement with all things visible in one place for faster workflow. example :ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VyEEufPAZ5s.html
Hi, that should not be the case - only when a new selection is made, that's when the loop range should adjust. If this is not what you're experiencing, please submit a bug ticket: my.presonus.com/support/open -GBY
@@presonus Ok I have submitted a ticket. FYI here is the issue. 1. Open a new session 2. Enable Loop Follows selection 3. Create two mono audio tracks 4. Set a loop for four bars 5. Arm track one for recording 6. Position playhead at start of loop 7. Press record until you have a region the length of your loop 8. Manually move loop ends away from the ends of the region. 9. Select the newly created region. Single click. Loop does not reset to the selected region. 10. The above is Bug #1 11. Dis-arm Track 1 and arm track2 12. Single click on the region in track 1, Loop still does not reset. 13. Double click on the region in track one, editior opens, Loop still does not reset 14. Close editor 15. At this point two things will reset the loop press play or click in the region grid. 16. When loop follows selection, I expect a selection of a region to reset the loop. Bug #2 1. Double check that track two is armed 2. Select the region in track one to ensure that the loop matches it. 3. With track two armed and record takes to layers enabled press record 4. Record 2-1/2 times through the loop and press the spacebar to stop in the middle of the loop 5. This resets the end of the loop because it automatically selects the new recorded information 6. It should leave the original selection or use one of the longest layers not the new truncated layer that was clearly not a full take. 7. This is Bug 2
@@presonus, Presonus claims it is not a bug. I don’t know why anyone would want the loop to reset length just because you stop the transport. Disappointed with the response from the company.
My biggest problem with UI is automation zoom - it's really hard to make like 0-1 db changes by drag and drop, even in the biggest track zoom (on default normal it's unusable). Precision should be better there.
@andrew_kay In addition to what @LaPlant_Mastering has said, you can also use the up/down arrow keys while holding down Option (on Mac) or Alt (on Windows) to move Automation points up and down in 0.6 increments. :) -GBY
Need the replace plugin function. S1 only has the replace default for all plugins which I don't use most times. Not having to add a plug in at the end of your signal chain and dragging to the position you want. Instead you can just choose to replace the plugin you want to remove and then baam its ats the position you want it
@@presonus doesn't work from the add plugin drop down menu or drag and replace on my effects plugin chain after adding a plugin. Only works from the browser panel and i like to work with my console full-screen
Tired of it crashing when editing audio. Just freezes. I’ve tried disabling all plugins, makes little to zero difference. VERY VERY annoying and actually ruins the software for me.
Hi, very sorry to hear that! Could you please submit some of your crash logs to us via my.presonus.com/support/open ? Also, please ensure that you've updated Studio One to the latest version available. -GBY
Hi, can you tell us more about what you're trying to achieve? Perhaps there is a way to do this already. If not, we'd love you to add this as a feature request: answers.presonus.com/categories/studio-one-feature-requests -GBY
@@presonus I am a 62 yo sound engineer and before switching to Studio One I was a Soundscape user for over 20 years. Please give us the most basic and essential tool for acoustic tracking/editing/mixing projects: The Scrub tool. I still can’t figure out why Studio One is the only pro DAW without it. It’s a shame.
