These videos are amazing. Thanks Gregor and Joe and PreSonus for putting these together. I started doing digital recording back in the '90s but never spent the time to learn all the tricks of the tools so what I always did was cut/paste the notes I wanted to fix into the spot I wanted them to be, which I suppose still works in some situations, but these methods have made editing at least 100x easier.
I really appreciate you and Joe. I started playing in the 1970s and got a Teac A-3340S when they came out. Everything today is beyond anything that could hope for. I got to busy for too many years. Now I'm really getting into my music and just knowing something is there is nowhere as nice as really beginning our understand it. Thanks so much for your talent and devotion.
I work a fair bit with remixing older recordings with 'Natural' or 'Drifting' Tempo. I find that I have to 'Practise' each time because I don't quite remember every step, click, and order of operations when I come to do one of these tracks. I find the Presonus instructional videos invaluable as aides to memory for tricky stuff like that. 👍
hi, i like protools's "tab to transition" a lot. everytime i use it, it always point the playhead to the "true" starting point of the transitions. so it's more precise. my main daw is studio one of course. but i hate to switch to protools just to edit my drums because it's more precise. and please make a feature so we can copy wrap point on one track to another, itu would be nice. thx
Omg thank you so much. I’ve been using studio one for a while and I’ve always would right click on the section and use the speed option to time stretch and it always took so long. Now ik you can just hit alt and put to your liking
Amazing techniques I never knew about, thank you for the lesson! (And I also want to congratulate/thank you for knowing how to properly use two cameras, i.e., turning and speaking directly into the second camera when the video switches to it, like you do at 7:20 for example. Maintains the warm feeling that you're still talking to me, not suddenly to someone else for some reason. Nicely done!)
Okay, I really have to comment on Gregor's ESP (extra sensory perception) for putting out videos on topics I have been thinking about, he is both efficient and clairvoyant, lol.
Thanks for the video. My biggest use would be importing an audio track of an entire song and trying to get it to synch with the S1 grid. The automation tools are pretty useless when trying to map a live performance with a drift in the timing. Happens more around the end of song sections. Easiest way I've found is to manually insert bend markers at the start of each bar and then quantise the track. I split a section of the song when there is a lot of drift at the end of the section and try to bring it back to the grid or maybe change the time signature for a few beats. Takes about a half hour for a song which is okay.
Need more tips on fitting old live MULTI-TRACK songs into the grid for the click. I find that even Melodyne doesn't get a recorded 'live' click accurate in some cases. I don't know why since the transients are obvious. The tips in this video are great for single tracks. You did another video on multi-tracks and melodyne, which is the process I normally follow, but sometimes it's still not getting everything. Is there way way to use Bend markers from a single track (live click) and have the stretching applied to ALL tracks? In other words, let's say you have 10 tracks of a live performance. They are all 'in sync' with one another, including a recorded 'click' that someone did after the fact or even during the performance. However, the performance has drifts in it. You apply Melodyne to the live click track since it's the best transients. Copy points to tempo track, then bounce to the rest of the tracks etc. The result is still not entirely on the beat throughout the song. It appears that the only course of action at this point is to use the tips covered in this video to fix each track one by one. Am I missing something?
Try to use analyze on kick and snare respectively and THEN group all drum tracks into edit group. You should now be able to adjust your drums to kick AND snare transients, whilst in phase and other drum transients will not affect the audio bend tool at all.
One thing is hard for me to understand - what should be aligned to the grid? Is it a transient peak itself, or is it the beginning of a sound, zero crossing? Studio one alignes a transient peak to the grid if I press Q, but it is hard to detect peaks on basses and strum guitars, so I can't align them between each other accurately
Thanks for the tip, but this is not appliable to large audio files. Is there a way to fix timing in 5-6 minutes long record? And what to do if I want to change 2/4 signature to 6/8? Audio track length and timing won't change in this case
This was very good but Joe's "Nashville" method is incorrect...the Nashville method is after the session to bring in another player with better timing to re-cut the track LOL :). Hey Joe...when do the in person meet ups start again?
I have Track one with someone talking. I then created a second track for the music to play underneath. I went and got a song (Planet Rock) which is a fast song but when I dragged it from an audio folder elsewhere on my computer, and applied it to the blank second track, the song is playing at a very slow tempo? Why is that? and what do I do to fix it?
Great Video as always. My question though on this topic is around Layers on a multi mic drums kit. If I am recording a drummer with 10 mics on the kit, which are grouped and need to add a new layer, The new layer receives the same name across all 10 tracks. For example - Kick In becomes 1.2 but then the Snare layer is named Kick In 1.2 as well. Is there a way so each track keeps it proper name but just added a number at the end to identify it correctly?
Thank you for this excellent video. I'm a beginner with Studio One ; At 1'30 to 1'35, how can you be so precise when selecting the bloc you want to cut ? On my PC, I can only select bigger pieces of audio, and not only the few milliseconds I need to treat (I suppose it's because of the bars of the audio ?)
Hi, try disabling the grid - you can do so with the "n" key, or toggle it temporarily by holding down Shift as you're dragging the selection with your mouse. Hope this helps. -GBY
@@presonus Indeed it's because the grid is on, thanks a lot ! I tried what you said but it doesnt work. So I just un-select the button which is on the top-center of the screen , just on the right of the "snap" selector.
Is there something that auto align vocal tracks? For example I need to align the doubles to the lead vocal automatically in S1. Almost something that certain plug-ins will do.
Is there a way to detect kick and snare and lock onto those transients but then edit multiple other tracks in the same way, like with the Beat Detective in Pro Tools or Flex Time in Logic?
When I use the bend tool and click on my audio to place a bend marker, it does not actually give any visual indication that there is a bend marker there and I just kind of have to guess. What am I missing here? Is there some sort of view mode I need to be in to make the bend markers visible?
Hi Gregor, when I'm timestretching electric guitar parts, to make things smoother I tend to make some notes longer. But most of times the sound quality goes to sh*t meaning, I hear artefacts and kind of a low quality mp3 64kbps sound... am I doing something wrong or am I asking too much 😉
Im having an issue with a project where I record but for some reason I cannot find the audio clips but i can hear them it's like the Audio tracks just magically disappeared and they're not hidden tracks. Strange
hey cregg i transfered all of my documents in another computer but for some reason i cant find my presence presets library one a quick note i actually did a song on my previous imac thx
and how I change the tempo of the song without alter the speed of the audio tracks? Sometimes I import some project audio tracks on a blank song but the tempo of the audio is different than the project, if I simple modifi the tempo on the arrange studio one adapts automaticaly the speed of the audio tracks to the tempo song : /
What's The Best Way To Fix Timing Issues In Studio One? Not use Studio one and use Melodyne? Come on PreSonus improve on this feature. This is so important!!!! One day it will be just one click to align the track to click. We live in the age of machine learning and AI. We can do this!!
@@SoundcastStudios I guess so, I do all my stuff at home and never make a release date so nothing is rushed and there’s plenty of time to redo edits. Might be different in larger studios with multiple artists/bands though.
@@presonus i did something wrong. I don't understand melodyne. Been trying 2 do that for years and it only works on vocals. can't understand how u did it
