On FilmicPro has the ability to remote. The remote version of their app is like $5. This will let you control one iOS device with another so you can plan your shot on an iPad and shoot with the iPhone.
@iphoneographers
@iphoneographers 6 лет назад
Yeah, we have the remote but didn’t use that on this. This short we shot with only three people not enough hands. But it is a good option to consider.
@edrosa3485

It's a massively helpful feature. I shoot in very tight confines of my man-cave and at odd angles so it helps to be able to view what the phone sees remotely. Though sometimes the app can be wonky.

They recently did an update to the app, but we haven't tried it out since then. Glad to hear it works well for you!

G'Day mate, I am in the process of making my very first video to post on my RU-vid channel using my second-hand mighty Mavic Pro drone 7& iPhone 7-plus. I am slowly adding to my kit (on a low budget pension) so all the more to be as resourceful as I can. Watching good folk such as yourself helps me learn how to & I truly thank you for that. I have subbed & a big thumbs up man. I am currently learning how best to use Filmic Pro on my phone to film & LumaFusion to edit on my iPad Air. My note to you: The meaning of life is.... "To continuously seek JOY in all you think, say & do" Cheers from Spike (Central Wheatbelt Western Australia)

I'm learning a lot from your work and subbing was 100%. I'm pretty much a newbie who, as he's approaching 60 in less than a week is looking to find a new immersive interest and has always enjoyed photography. So i'm looking to take up all aspects of making films incl iPhone x, gopro, drone work, dlsr, gimbal work, social media, making a youtube channel etc and i'm finding it a little expansive and befuddling to say the least. The best advice I heard from you on a previous video was "just get out there and do it!" ie make mistakes but learn on the job. Well' i'm going to take the advice wholeheartedly though i'll hold fire on acquiring FilmicPro at this moment in time and just experiment. I've even joined Lynda, testing the waters, to learn stuff like photoshop possibly. So now a big ask.... It would be nice to have some guiding thread to my learning in all of this. Has anyone got any ideas about how I should structure my timeline for example concentrate on iPhone x first....settings to use....make a short vid...try to edit...upload to social media.....then introduce gopro in a dual way...that sort of stuff. There just seems sooo much to go wrong and it would be very easy to lose focus(no pun intended). So i'm really hoping someone reading or even iphoneographers will offer up some advice(as little or much as you want even just links to you tube stuff I should watch especially iphoneographers of course!)....any would be greatly appreciated. ….i'm listening..

Great to hear! Thanks for watching and hope our videos have been helpful. Filmmaking is storytelling at its heart, so having some life experience and wisdom is actually an advantage. Technology will ALWAYS change, but good storytelling stays the same. So while learning the tech is important in filmmaking, just remember that it’s just a tool to help tell your story. So whatever you choose to use (iPhone, GoPro, DSLR, etc) it doesn’t really matter as long as there is craft behind it and a well told story. Now of course craft takes time to learn and so sounds like you’re taking the right steps to do that. Lynda.com is great, but so is RU-vid. Some filmmaking channels we’d recommend are Film Riot, RocketJump, DSLR Video Shooter, Peter McKinnon (his tutorials more than Vlogs), Daniel Schiffer, Cinecom.net, DSLRGuide (his older stuff) and Brandon Li. All these channels are great in their own ways. Using your phone is a great place to start, especially since you likely already own it. The techniques we share will often apply to ANY camera, so learning on what you already have is ideal. So yes, make some videos, short films, etc and post them if you like them. If not, use them as your film school and move on to the next one. It takes a lot of practice to do it right, but it can be done with some hard work and patience. So just use the best tool (you can afford) for the job. Whether that’s an iPhone or a RED camera. In the end the story you’re trying to tell matters the most, and of course if it looks and sounds good that’s great, too. 😎

iPhoneographers It's so good of you to reply. I'm making a note of the sites now. Only one I'd come across a lot was Peter McKinnon and I think that's great so I'm sure this will suit me fine. Just got 'storaged' up with wd my book 4 TB and Samsung T5 500Gb ssd. Two weeks ago I'd never heard of these and now with RU-vid research etc things are moving.....I'm so looking forward the ' making 60 you most productive and contented year' . I may even makes videos etc around it #M60ympacy

@iphoneographers This is simply a fabulous video. A couple of questions... re; Buzzed focus. What is peaking? What is a focus puller? If we're using an iPad remoting to an iPhone X, how should we manage focus?
@iphoneographers
@iphoneographers 5 лет назад
Thanks! Peaking is the option to turn green lines on so you can more easily tell when something is in focus. A focus puller is a camera assistant who manually sets focus marks on a lens and then pulls the focus depending on the shot. If you’re using Filmic Remote on the iPad you’ll have full control of focus. And depending on the shot you can set and lock it or use auto focus. Btw, we almost always use auto focus first letting the app choose it, then we either lock that or adjust from there.

@iPhoneographers Thought I'd subscribe until I noticed you're on that obsolete and ancient 24fps likely not even knowing it has little to do with what you are likely hoping to be "Cinematic." You apparently don't know what really makes video Cinematic and I wonder what else don't you know? Your videos have jitter and judder as a result of using 24fps, most apparent on panning. Good luck with your channel.
@georgeg5063
@georgeg5063 5 лет назад
Noticed that too.
@iphoneographers
@iphoneographers 5 лет назад
Obsolete and ancient 24FPS? You mean the frame rate that every movie and TV show is shot in? It’s the only frame rate there is for narrative content - unless you’re talking about slow motion but even then those frame rates get conformed to 24 frames per second for slomo playback. Even if you’re in Europe and you’re making a movie you shoot 24P, not 25P. And you certainly don’t shoot 30p or 60p in the U.S. Judder can sometimes be an issue on panning with 24P, but typically only on slower pans and if you follow action it’s invisible. More often with smartphones it’s a shutter speed thing as fast shutter and no motion blur can cause footage to stutter. But we always try to use the 180° shutter rule and shoot 24FPS at 1/48 shutter. Thanks for watching.
@RakuyioLifts
@RakuyioLifts 4 года назад
What crap are you talking about? 24fps is the go to. All the movies are shot in 24fps because this is the only frame rate that can relate to the human eyes. The hobbit was shot in 60fps and looked crappy. To get the cinematic shot you should always record in 24fps, next time you go around comment, get your facts straight first

Thanks.... I’m curious, did you shoot the whole thing with the anamorphic lens or did you use different lenses for the closer-up shots? ッ
@iphoneographers

Whole thing on the anamorphic. Would probably do it differently today, maybe mix in some telephoto. But it worked pretty well.

i dont know what's the point of making tutorials on "iphone filmaking" or smartphone filmaking in general when you use good gear with it, if i had the money to buy a shotgun mic , and an hdmi monitor for no reason i would first buy a good DSLR camera...
@iphoneographers
@iphoneographers 4 года назад
We don’t do mobile filmmaking for financial reasons, although some do. We love the convenience meets quality factor. And pretty much everyone already has a smartphone today anyway, so it’s not an extra expense like a DSLR (if you’re concerned about money). But we routinely use all kinds of cameras and mix and match the footage depending on the project. In the end it’s really all just filmmaking.

The Moment app overheats my iphone SE in seconds, will Filmic pro do the same thing?

It shouldn’t. FP can heat up some shooting 4K and Log especially outside in any heat, but under normal circumstances it should be fine.

@Nysoupla
@Nysoupla 5 лет назад
So, you are calling it Buzzed Focus, but do you mean Soft Focus??
@iphoneographers
@iphoneographers 5 лет назад
When talking about a shot that you or the focus puller (1st AC) misses you’ll say “I buzzed the focus” meaning it was accidental. Soft focus can sometimes be done on purpose. Although if the focus was buzzed you could later say it looks soft, so in that respect they could be used interchangeably.
