It's a shame many do not put aside anything when times are good, then hoard huge quantities of product when there is a shortage. Government is supposed to make sure everybody has the necessities. Those that distort the supply system by hoarding during shortages are selfish & greedy. The government is not actually the greedy one here, however it is unfair to hoard essential items when a shortage already exists.

​@@RonaldDCassI hate to tell you but it's not the governments job to make sure that you have what you need, but the good news is just buying a 10-20lbs of rice, oats, some type of dry beans, flour or wheat berries to grind into fresh wheat, ect.,same thing with canned goods (even if you buy 5 canned goods extra each week adds up do you have to lose, just buy what you eat. I hope this helps you out.

@@lisabibby6274 yes, the government does attempt to keep people from "panic" hoarding during crisis so everyone can have access to necessities. However, each of us are responsible to do our part by stockpiling enough necessities IN ADVANCE of any shortages without HOARDING. I have been self employed all my working life (over 65 years) & we always tried to keep several months supplies during "good times" so we always had enough for "down times". We don't stockpile only for our needs, but to have enough to share. We always have enough on hand to keep our family & friends from hardship. Being "PREPARED" in case of hardship times is NOT HOARDING, but excess buying DURING CRISIS IS, & is the result of selfish, greedy personalities so prevalent in today's society, & in fact can actually CAUSE greater crisis. Also if power is out, a major waste will occur if people don't have provisions to preserve by canning. We are prepared to save & use our frozen & refrigerated foods. Our emergency supplies are primarily non perishable. We put dates on all supplies to prove we got them before any crisis. There WILL BE major crisis in the (relatively) near future. Selfishness & greed will not guarantee survival.
