I would really not sand the way you did in the lathe. Using just one hand like that folding the paper the way you did is a good way to get caught since the sand paper grips well. Hold each end with each hand instead or hold it in a way where you cant get caught. The same goes for the scotch brite. I do enjoy your builds a lot and I am thinking about building a welding table like yours.

I don't want to be picky, and I want to say that I enjoy and respect this channel. However I agree that the sandpaper technique (at 18:53) is known to be a danger. The paper can grip a little extra, wrap around on itself, and pull your hands into the work. Somewhere here on RU-vid there is at least one video that shows this explicitly. Scary! Please work safe, and thanks for the videos!

People say dont grind your welds? those jugs could be 1000 pounds each and those joints would not fail....do people not realize how strong a welded seam in? it is not a submarine

Them detailed drawings for viewer consumption must have taken some time to make. Presumably otherwise, as a one off for yourself it would have been a chicken scratch drawing. Or is there software nowadays that makes it the go to option and throw away the sketchpad.

All of that work and equipment for those tiny little things. I could not do that. I would not even weld them. I would just save a whole bunch of time and epoxy them on. I respect the detail but that is a whole heap of kit for something really really tiny.

3:29 Jimbo... As organized as you are, why don't you have a rack for all of that steel? I built a simple one on casters, that slants back about 10 degrees, with 6 arms for different types of material. On the back side, I put all of my sheet, plate, and expanded. I have an old shot of it on my shop tour. It sure is handy, and I can roll it around.

Great build I like how you used a lathe to make the round ends for your tubes and then welded and then on, then come back to lathe clean up the radius very nice.

Awesome channel! Im trying to weld together a heavy duty metal cabinet for my van using similar sized tubing BUT the sheet metal I have access too real cheap is 18 gauge cold rolled 430 stainless sheet metal. Do you think if I used a wire for the 430 that it would mig weld good to the mild steel tubing? Id hate to buy all the materials and it not work.

Your project is Good, but you should have used round pipes instead of square ones. Even the pipes should be slimmer for an extra good look. This item is looking a little bit rough.

Another great project, kudos Jim! When you were talking about all the welds, I couldn't help but think you could have save a lot of welds, material and time by eliminating that center vertical frame. Looks nice aesthetically, but you didn't need it with the gauge metal tubes you used, the horizontal pieces would have easily supported the weight of two bottles. But good for us because it gave us that much more viewing time watching you work which is always awesome!

If you use a separation tool you can cut off the rounded end piece on the lathe.

Glad I found your channel by accident! I am an American living in Thailand and if I can't make or fabricate something, I don't need it! Or, by the time I could explain what I want I could have built 10. I found your metal barn door with the glass panels and just thought I was crazy that I could make my own in the US vs $10,000 for a double entry door with side panels, gimme a break since most are made in China for pennies!

to be able to grind welds need to chamfer the materiał 45-30 degrees. I work in power plant construction end we newer ever grind welds like Jombo. If you weld something which will be subject to great forces dont grind welds if you not chamfer the materials.

Consider putting in a reverse osmosis system instead. I did that about five years ago when we moved and I couldn't be happier. Beats paying for deliveries and/or lugging bottles around.
