Glad you enjoyed looking at our little railway. At the moment there is more track work being done. When completed it will create another loop. I am looking forward to the spring and doing my part in the garden. O

Wonderfull little railway, and beautiful garden. It's troubling when your the only person in the family who has an interest in Railways, so difficult to persuade the parents to have one !

As you will see from the post below the railway is still developing. My hobby is the garden, my husband the railway! Between the two of us it looks pretty good. Friends have a railway in a very small garden if you want to see check out RideOnRailway, you might find that your garden is not too small after all. Thanks for your comments.

@JacSGWR Thanks for the comments, my husband is the railway buff, I just see to the garden layout. Come back in a while, we are hoping to extend the railway even further! He built the carriges himself and all the track layout has been his. The garden has a steep slope but the engine seems to cope quite well.

Hi, Thanks for the nice comment. My husband says you really need about a twelve foot radious as a minimum. His suggestion would be for a bogie style loco (eg BR Class 20).

Interesting stuff. I wouldn't mind making some 5" gauge track. And a twelve foot radius would fit in my garden. Like the loco as I do the CP 1400s I remember travelling behind back in the 1980s and 1990s and conversing with people on the train to learn Portuguese.

That's a great railroad layout you've there. I like the operation possibilities as much as the way, the railroad in integrated to the rest of the garden. It's sad that my little backyard (approx. 12 square meter) is really to small for a 5"-gauge layout. But one day in the future.... =) Enjoy your hobbies and railroad. It was fun to watch your video.

Thank you for the kind comments. The garden & rail is still developing. My husband has taken much encouragement from RideOnRailway, they have a very small layout but have crammed just about enything you could think of in it. Ours, because of my garden interest is much more of a relaxed affair....you could always move to a bigger house and garden....only joking! All the best.

You both seem so unhappy to have an amazing garden and railway in the garden! I nearly bought a 5" gauge the other day but I'm still saving up for a live steamer for my sm32!

love the railway. Thinking of building a 5" gauge myself, just wondering what your tightest radius curves are? I'm not sure whether my garden is wide enough for a loop.

Nice layout but am I wrong that some of the turnouts were improperly set?
@ornellawalker

+Michael Clark Thanks for looking at video. All the points are spring loaded which allows the loco to push the point blades over on facing points. I have to say very well spotted. Regards Tony

Is this big enough to ride on?
@tonywalker5523
@tonywalker5523 4 года назад
Yes, if you look at the last part of the video you will see one of the coaches. You sit on the coach roof with legs astride and feet each side on the running board. This size coach will take 2 adults or 3 young children. The loco motive you see was tested on a level club track at Chingford and pulled around 11 adults. The main thing with 5 inch gauge is that you must ask passengers to sit still and not lean over as that can derail a coach. Thanks for looking at the video

Thanks for looking at my Garden Railway. The Loco is a Hercules from Ride On Railways and I roughly based it on the Portuguese CP Class 1400 when I built it. It is numbered 1408. If you look on Ride on Railways site you will see it under Hercules Owners No 8. Spent many happy hours travelling around Portugal by train between 1999 and 2008. Lovely Country and people.

@ash26ist

How do you do that
@tonywalker5523
@tonywalker5523 7 лет назад
Thanks for looking at the railway. Basically, I have one spring on one side pulling the point blade over and on the other side another spring attached to a cable to the point lever. When you pull the point lever over it throws the point to the other direction. By having springs on both sides it allows a train to push the blades over, if the point is set against the train. I have recently replaced 4 manual point levers with 24volt solenoid motors with switches placed about 6 feet before the point to allow you change before you get to the point. The electric solenoids work very well. I have also added some more track and points to the layout since this was taken.
