I looove Super Woden GP 2, it's such a fun game and has a lot of customization too! Circuit Superstars is also great fun, hard to get online matches, but playing with a group of friends is a blast!
@@AndreaP76 the AI is challenging to get around, you can usually get around the back half of the field pretty easy, but you're really going to need to learn the tracks and lines to reach the top 3. It's definitely not easy mode, and there is no rubber banding of any sorts.
How does racing in a top down view like that usually work? I tried playing retro racing games like these before but I usually got confused by the awkward top down view.
Rush Rally 3 should be on the list. It's like Colin Mcrae Rally 2005 but with updated physics and customizable liveries. It has career mode and wheel supports too!
I think the best thing about this video is you at the beginning saying "don't get me wrong, I absolutely love sim racing" as you are 5 seconds clear of former Champ Car and Le Mans driver Charles Zwolsman. :D
Just wanted onto the Horizon Chase 2 section. The game is developed by Aquiris, a Brazilian game studio, the main inspiration for the game is Top Gear, a series of racing videogames that started on the SNES and was made by the same developers behind the Lotus games. Top Gear was huge in South America, I played it all the time when I was a little kid on my SNES, Aquiris are so fond of those games that they actually got the same composer from the original game, Barry Leitch, to make the music for Horizon Chase 1 & 2. I played a lot of the first Horizon Chase back when it first released on Android, it's a great game, I have yet to try 2, but I'll definitely get it soon, sorry for the random tangent, I just wanted to yap a little bit about a childhood treasure of mine. Great video, I try to keep up with all the new racing games coming out but there was a few here I didn't know about, they're going straight to my wishlist.

It just released into Early Access so it's not qualified for this list, but I highly recommend Aero GPX to anyone who misses the old F-Zero games. The handling is so responsive and feels great to play even though it's an Early Access title.
Also the WipEout series in general is very close in style and gameplay to F-Zero with high speed racing with anti-grav ships. The tracks can be super challenging too, and super satisfying to get right. I haven't personally played it, but BallisticNG aims to replicate the gameplay of WipEout, so that may be worth looking at for fans of F-Zero as well.
@@1mariomaniac I agree that WipEout and BallisticNG are great anti-grav racers. I would probably say BallisticNG is to WipEout what Aero GPX is to F-Zero. What makes Aero GPX more like F-Zero is the character design, the 30 racer grids, the track locations. It's all very clearly inspired by classic F-Zero, which has a little more cartoony of a feel than WipEout.
I would honestly love Super Woden GP II but that isometric overhead view is an insane turnoff. Even with generic cars and tracks, if someone made a GT clone with license tests, maintenance features, and an in depth multi discipline career mode, I'd be all over it. At least, so long as it wasn't isometric top down.
I appreciate the coverage of arcade racers. If there is a start line and a finish line and it can be timed, I'd probably enjoy it. That being said, I'm off to watch olympic sailboat racing.
I'm new here and this video made me subscribe to your channel. What I love about your video is how you go through explaining and giving vital info on each game. Aside from Horizon Chase Turbo and Circuit Superstars, the others I always skipped because other videos didn't really give enough info on them for me to know if I'd like them or not but your video does. Will be buying and trying out all the games you mentioned here that I haven't already got because they sound a lot better than I originally thought. There's an upcoming new take on Sega's classic Motorsport Manager called GT Manager. Looks like a cool little indie racing game to keep an eye one. I'm also eagerly awaiting the 1.0 release of Old School Rally and love the love letter to the World Rally Championship that is The Art of Rally.
I lost most of the Spring to Rush Rally Origins - I love the diorama artstyle of the maps too but the handling is a joy. Still have to play Rock n Roll Racing far too frequently after all these years too!
These games are just perfect for the new handhelds Legion Go, Rog Ally etc, great to just pick up and play on the sofa or in bed! Played a few of these on them. Great list thanks 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
There's an incredible F-zero like game called "GRIP: combat racing" I found a while back which was on sale, so I tried it out. The central mechanic revolves around how you can drive the car upside down, and I don't mean that in the way of driving on ceilings, even though you can, the cars are all designed with these huge tires, so they can still drive wen when flipped over. It's seriously fun, and I highly recommend you play it if you can.
+1 for Rush Rally 3. It left me super impressed on mobile. After I beat it I still wanted more like it and found it when I started playing CarX Rally. Surprisingly similar, but with more strategy and constructor type-stuff involved like having to buy your own tires.
i would like to suggest TRAIL OUT (flatout, wreckfestish racer) and YOU SUCK AT PARKING (more placing your vehicle in the right spot and being faster than everyone else at that, than really racing, but great car maneuvering fun nonetheless).
Nice video 👏👏👏. I love this type of games to as a “stress relief “ after GT7 and F1 23 sessions 😂. I would say Horizon Chase 1 with Ayrton Senna’s DLC and the Rock N Roll racing remastered version, available on the consoles. Overall, Horizon Chase 1 and 2 are the ones that reminds me my childhood… on the 90s all Brazilian kids with a SNES, played Top Gear, it was a “fever” and we spent hours playing with friends.
Checkout night runners prologue, the official release is sometime in 2025 but the prologue is already excellent. It's gearing up to be a street racing masterpiece.
It's early access so it doesn't qualify for this but Super Polygon Grand Prix on Steam is a love letter to all the Sega 90s racers and has the neat advantage of working bloody well on a Steam Deck already.
Super Woden GP 2 looks phenomenal as a fan of classic GT titles, I just can't play it though, I've tried but I cannot get used to isometric racing games. Corners sneak up on me that'd otherwise be easy, and cornering in general isn't as simple due to the odd perspective. Wish they had a chase cam option. Edit: As does Superspec Rallycross, love rallycross racing.
Love Rush Rally Origins! Also, and this is not a car racing game, if you like high speed racing while flying like iron man, "Xeno Runners" is pretty addicting. Only for the hardcore "try harder" as it's tough af. Seems shallow at first but has a lot of depth to it.
With iracing picking up the circuit superstars as well as the exocross release it's pretty obvious they are going to be releasing an RC racing game or sim with a driver stand/rostrum viewpoint
Super woden gp 2 is one of those games I`d be all over, if it weren`t for the top down/ isometric view.. I still added it to my wishlist, and will pick it up whenever it`s on sale for cheap enough. Also, I didn`t know until this video that Aquos had been purchased by epic and absorbed into Fortnite, and as someone who really likes the first horizon chase, and who thinks it`s one of only a few non puzzle /match 3 games that actually plays well on a touchscreen, I`m low key pissed at the news
As a fan of RR Origins I’m very tempted by SWGP2 on Switch, never played the first but love the GT comparisons! Is it a great port, can I confidently buy at full price? Seems like it has gone under the radar somewhat. Advice from Switch players welcome! 🙂 Nice rundown btw and I totally agree, I love serious racers as much as the next person but there’s always room to chill with great (top down) indie racers!
I wanna play woden gp 2 so bad, but isometric driving drives me up the wall. I have Curcuit superstars and love it for 10 mins then just rage when i keep turning the wrong way when driving towards myself.
You didn't say anything about the actual driving and handling of New Star GP: All the other stuff can be read off of a store page. It's a shame about Super Woden GP as I like everything about it, except the driving view.
I wish Horizon Chase 2 had proper physics and wasnt so random. Something like the Outrun physics would've fitted the game amazingly. New Star GP has cool ideas but it lacks heavily in many spots making the game rather boring really quickly, also the fact that all cars sound the same is just - nahh, there's no excuse for that.
4:53 I'd have love to have put any of mine on the list (Meh, street R.I.C.E.r., S.U.R.G. One Track, or S.U.N. D.R.G.) but only one of those got anything close to a release (S.U.R.G One Track for OUYA), the rest are still born while I learn Godot, and honestly none of them even remotely look this good.
Horizon Chase 2 is good, but don't get it on Switch. The console's limitations result in badly washed-out looks and frequent framerate hiccups, the latter of which is simply not tolerable for a fast-paced arcade racing game.
I don't care if I have missed these five indie racing games! I did not miss any of them! Why should I even try them?! I don't care if they're well worth my attention! I don't think Rush Rally Origins deserves a space on my radar! I don't think I'll play New Star GP if I'm looking for a multi-season in-depth Formula 1 career mode involving car and team development, staff perks and upgrades, rivalries, press interviews, tire and fuel strategies, dynamic weather, and rewinds! I don't care if I should give these indie games a try for myself! I DID NOT MISS ANY OF THEM!!!
