Breaking Forza's Unwritten Rule 

Imagine being a person who doesn't know about this unspoken rule, and you just like the GT40. You'd be so confused as to why you're getting bullied and rammed all the time.

Couldn't ever imagine nerds getting this angry about a videogame car.

I got a kicker out of this one. I always find this kind of stuff funny. But I do appreciate how gamers can have unwritten rules for these kinds of things where a character or car or whatever must neither be named or used due to being overpowered or overly-annoying.

I mean, I get it, but same time, what if you just like that car? I casually play all sorts of games, and I only seriously simrace and flight sim. I would hop onto a race for once in six months in this game and have absolutely no idea what I did wrong.

Back in forza 4 they had a game mode called cat and mouse. The group I play with changed up the rules a little, and we called it shepherd. A bunch of c class cars, those are the ones actually racing each other. With a couple s class in the mix. The s class cars are supposed to keep the group of c class all together. The s class could only hit the lead car to keep the group tight. It was actually some of the best racing I ever had.

people really are like dogs. the guy has been conditioned to attack that car on sight, and that's exactly what he is doing. self-control/control of emotions is key.

11:45 as a game developer, running split-screen has the same performance impact as running VR. Splitscreen means the computer or console has to render the game and game logic twice per frame for you and your friend. VR is the exact same, where your PC to console has to render the game twice per frame, one for your right eye and another for your left eye. Split-screen was easier to handle back in the day when games weren't graphically intense, but as games, today are so incredibly realistic most of the time, most people's computers simply wouldn't be able to render split-screen at ultra settings. You'd have to essentially take your current FPS on a single monitor, and half that. That's roughly what split-screen does.

Having never played this game in my life and not knowing if the cars are raced stock or modified here, I can't really judge the situation. But you explained the situation pretty well at the start of the video. Seeing as Boom only seems to target you because of your car choice I think his behaviour might be rectified

Interesting video. I’ve never known that there was an “unwritten rule” in all my time playing Forza 7.

With the splitscreen thing. Normally you're only rendering one POV, and the things outside of your POV arent being rendered to help with performance. Thats why forza doesnt let you increase FOV on console. With splitscreen, your console has to render almost twice as much, and because forza is really just a graphics showcase game they'd rather focus on how good the game looks than optimise for a gamemode most peole dont even use nowadays. I dont care either way, I use performance mode every time.

This reminds me of the time I ended the win streaks of a lobby of Ferrari Enzo's while driving a Bentley Continental GT in Forza 3. Every racing game after that was won using the single rule I learned from those races: if you're fast and can't turn well, HOG THE ROAD. Bentley Continental GT's are quick but turn like a Mercedes Sprinter (think GMC Vandura or Box Truck), but what they lack in handling... they make up for it in weight. Good luck forcing one off the road in your lightweight/carbonfiber super car.

I've ran the GT40 and didn't get this reaction from people. I genuinely love the car. The 488 Pizza and GT40 are 2 of my favorite cars ever made. Never knew there was an unspoken rule of not using the car till now.

It’s pretty simple to understand the split screen thing. Because it’s such an extremely high fidelity game, it’s very difficult to render twice at the same time effectively. You can’t just run the game twice at the same time with no consequence

The graphics being too good for split screen actually makes sense. The game will have to render each frame twice, once for each player, and they're going to be different since each player sees something different. It's not like they can just "copy/paste" one player's scene to another

I actually really like this game. I have both Xbox and PS5 and have also played GT7 but I gotta say there is just something different about trying to avoid all the rammers I actually enjoy it and I find it funny

11:40 In splitscreen you gotta render the scene twice which is more taxing even if its the same amount of pixels, that being said its easy to just reduce the graphics a bit

Idk what all happened before you started recording, but I can almost guarantee you that Boom only rammed you because you hit him on a straight. Actually, the only people that seemed to ram you on purpose were the people you hit first. Like, I don't think anybody touched you *because* of the GT40 pick.

I can’t even lie, seeing someone driving a GT40 in a public lobby getting rammed makes me happy But really, I almost never have a problem with people’s car choice. But every time I see someone in a GT40, or a car of equal OP status, they drive like a melon. Cutting the track, hitting others, while in the best car. That’s why people get annoyed with people who choose these cars in my experience

I applaud Boooom random number sequence, when game companies dont take action against poor game design/balance, players gotta do it themselves

About the splitscreen part, it's a well known problem nowadays. You just can't keep up this framerate at this resolution on consoles. Yes, you can ship with the game lowest quality textures to be used when splitscreen is on, adding to the game size. You can also reduce by various means, like the FPS themselves, some various things, but in the end people will dislike it. Either it will be too ugly for them, or FPS won't be stable and they will cry about it. Better to dodge the bullet. For the record, Call of Duty had those kind of issues and is notorious for being more ideous in splitscreen then in solo, and it's not only because the render itself is less large, it's also because the overall resolution is greatly reduced.

Depending on what kind of day the guy was having you running into him while on a straightaway could have been enough to make him want to mess with you until you or him quit. Unless you weren’t paying attention to your own game play you did hit the guy on a straight where there isn’t really an excuse for doing so.

It's funny that people get mad over a few pixels on the screen. I mean none of us are professional race car drivers... so what's the point of getting mad over said pixels on the screen

6:49 - "this was the best overall race of the week - no smashing, no crashing" Proceeds to crash into someone at turn 2, turn 3 and turn 4. Then hits the wall on the exit of 4, gets through turn 5 clean and crashes into someone at turn 6. Turn 7 is uneventful but then goes off the track at turn 8 and almost spins in turn 9 before the camera cuts. Brilliant.

About the split screen: For every car on the screen they need a camera and a completely separate rendering of the game with less pixels. For example: for 2 cars we need to render twice half of the screen pixels instead of once all the pixels of the screen. For 4 we need to render a quarter of the screen's pixels 4 times. In the end we render the same amount of pixels, but we have to do the whole process of rendering 4 times. There are 3 problems with that: 1. For each render there's base performance cost. Some calculations that have to be done for each camera. That could help consume performance of the GPU. 2. The renders cannot happen at the same time (as far as I know). Since having one camera or 4 cameras we only have the same amount of frame time (for 60 fps that would be 16ms) to render all cameras, we might not be able to fit sequentially rendering all player views in a 16ms timeframe (specially if a single camera takes most of the frametime normally). 3. For each render we need to load all the things/assets that are being shown. If we have one camera, that uses a certain amount of VRAM. If we have 4 cameras, that uses 4 times the amount of VRAM, or we load assets 4 times, which will take a lot longer. That is worst case, maybe some assets are shared, specially if you're right behind each other, but we must be prepared for worst cases. What would be the solution for this? Either lowering FPS and/or visual fidelity, or optimizing, or forcing consoles/PCs to have better hardware (this last one is impossible, since the hardware is already determined by the released consoles). They could totally lower the visual experience to allow for split screen or spend time optimizing, but that could cost even more money and take a hit at their reputation for graphical fidelity. But I think the deal breaker for them is: having split screen probably lowers the number of copies sold and money made, since people don't expect split screen that much anymore and each split screen player is one less copy sold. Friends will just accept and have 2 consoles and 2 copies, as they grow up and perceive that as the normal thing.

Imagine how exciting it is to race the same cars over and over again. Oh boy, I can't wait for the next race in the Ford GT40 Cup series. Since no one used a car other than the Ford GT40 in the A and S classes, there was no point in competing in them. So people stopped using the Ford GT40 in these classes.

About that splitscreen implementation you were talking about, it actually makes sense. Basically, the game itself renders a high fidelity 3d environnement in real time as you know but in split screen it has to render 2 3d environnements at the same time, which is possible with lower graphics since the GPU will have to render less but 2 times. So you will not be able to render 2 times a high fidelity environnement, and they probably thought that since less people use splitscreen in games anyway, they wouldn't bother making it so they don't need to create new presets of graphics etc... And I'm pretty sure in older Forza Motorsports they halved the FPS in order to get 2 environnements at 30 fps instead of one at 60 fps. I hope you understand my gibberish.

I do somewhat understand this unwritten rule as if your trying to have a fair competetion and one person has a far superior car it isnt really fun. Its to the point where everyone would have to use that car and you wouldnt be able to use other cars you like if you wanna win. Imagine entering a marathon and some dude brings a bicycle. Or probably a better analogy you enter a bike race and some guy brings an e-bike Youd be pissed at them

11:31 visual fidelity is high which means a lot of performance goes into rendering what you see onscreen. splitscreen would require double the performance because everything is rendered twice.

What I do in the crew 2 is if I'm using a good car and someone isn't. I race my normal race until I get to the end and then I wait for everyone to finish and then I finish after. And I only use meta if someone spams meta first.

I've used the GT40 plenty of times in A class and never encountered people ramming me at every moment they can i just get lobies where people dont care what car you run seeing as thats the point of Forza to have the freedom of using the cars you want
