2. Too much clutter I cannot work in a cluttered environment either. My response to the stress I get when things feel chaotic is anger toward my family. I regret every time the rage yelling going from room to room and trying to clean. Wow. I can totally see the connection between too much clutter and procrastination, eating junk, and being so tired we just want to stare and scroll.
Hi. Is social media watching sewing videos (learning to sew), recipes, along with decluttering and or how to do something videos (how to install cabinet handles)? If it is, then I social media too much. I am 60 and don't really know what is meant by social media. I only know how to watch and comment because my son showed me RU-vid during the pandemic. You can learn anything on this thing. Thank you for all the videos. Love your personality; you are informative and fun. Have a nice day.
4. Mindless scrolling Is this just searching online randomly? I don't do that. I do remember when FB said end of feed. I turned off YT video autoplay. I don't sleep with my phone next to me either (RF is bad); we keep our phones on airplane mode while we sleep. I have my alarm on it on my desk to get up and take my medication. I also try and keep my phone in another room during the day. I do turn off almost all notifications, except phone calls and texts.
Good points, all. I no longer have notifications for anything. I want it to be under my control when I check something. And I have really cut back on social media. Like you, I keep up with family and some old friends that way so I don’t want to stop Facebook entirely. But I just get on briefly every day to check. I don’t do the scrolling thing when I am around anybody. It drives me crazy to be in a conversation with somebody and their head is down and they’re looking at their phone. It feels insanely rude to me. I have family members who do this and I always want to say, “Hey, I only see you a couple of times a year - can you put down your phone?”
Oh my goodness Robyn, I didn't even know you have cats! In all your videos I've seen, I've never seen cat toys all over etc. We have 2 ragdoll kittens, 9 mths old, and I was looking online for how to be more minimalist (cozy minimalist) and have kittens. Boxes, toys, ripple rug, cat trees...Ahh!! Talk about visual stressors. Could you share how you have kitties and keep things tidy? Please oh please??
A lifetime of wisdom in ONE video!😁 This was a great motivator for me to assess my screen habits and to recommit to my fitness routine. I appreciate the energy you put into your videos! They are excellent in many ways… humor, editing, valuable content- - you clearly are talented and dedicated! I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate you.😁🌺
I absolutely LOVE how in #2 you tell us it’s ok if you have to throw something away… because that’s where it’s going when you die anyway!!! I need to replay that and write your exact words down!! Lol, anytime anyone mentions they threw something out (lol) on social media they get shammed that they didn’t find another place for it. My mind always thinks basically what you so beautifully said. Thank you for this video.
OMG!!!! I can totally agree with you in each point you just brought up in this video. My goodness, so true!!!! Thank you so much for this Eye Opening information. I really, really apreciate it!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
So many great points. I used to always read a book at bed time. Then I started going to sleep to a Netflix movie on my iPad. Lately I have gone back to a book. I notice my sleep is better. Phone is always downstairs. I never get notifications. I turned them off.... I hate that. Thank you for the video. ❤
I quit FB about 5 years ago. Sometimes it feels like I am missing the groups and info, but at least my husband is still on and he lets me know about the stuff I need to know😋
I adjusted my settings in WhatsApp and don't get notified when a new message comes up unless I open the app. There are days when I totally forget the app until I remember to check, it was a life changer for me. Good advice, as always.
I’ll be honest I am spending alot more time on social media right now, waiting for my hip replacement in July, but I told my husband when I’m up and walking pain free, I will be so done with it, except for my fav utube channels… I relax in the evening watching the videos, I don’t really watch TV I am hardly on Facebook
I totally get how hard it is to focus in spite of clutter! What if you worked at a retail chain where you are immersed in clutter, much of it out of date, out of season, out of style? I literally relieved to get home where things are mostly organized.
Preface: I need to be a lot better about limiting my time but my Apple Watch really helps! You’d think it would do the opposite but especially when out and needing to know if the kids need me it’s great! I know if someone is trying to reach me but there’s 0 temptation to get distracted on it.
I have slowed down on Facebook a lot. I still go on it, but as much..i have a lot of anxiety when trying to sleep so I have to take a pill for that. Hoping not forever, but that's when the runaway and negative thoughts creep in.
Great video Robyn 👍😎 I hardly look at Fb now and truly don't feel any better when I have spent any time on there, although i do have a slight You Tube addiction 🤔 I also love the Cure and Sia but I have to be careful when and how much I listen to and try and balance it out with more upbeat tunes 😊
Highly recommend taking the apps off your phones. Or hiding them. I have 1 phone that still has FB and IG on it and I buried them in autility folder. I also have 1 group I started getting on FB again for, so I just pinned a direct link to that group on my toolbar on my computer so I can grab the zoom link.
3. Sleep I did not know that sedentary times are linked to lack of adequate sleep. I did know that not enough sleep will cause you to be more stressed. And as I said, my reaction to stress is anger. I think my husband is one of those that can go on 6 hours of sleep regularly and then maybe one day a week he sleeps in longer. I barely get seven which is what I try for but I probably am on the longer side of meeting 9 hours that I just don't get.
When you mentioned how there are no more ending to certain things, it reminded me of hearing about "earworms". If you have a song in your head the only way to stop it is by singing it in your head until the song ends!! So ending thing is VERY important.
I keep only my fam and friends who are real life ones on Facebook . I don’t unfriend people I know… I just don’t have them on my feed. Thanks for your honesty about your 5 sneaky bad habits- I would rather replace it with learning tools like certain helpful people like you 😊
1. Social media use My husband and I share a facebook. I can get rid of it all together. When I have the app on my phone I waste time on it so I took it off. And pretty much never go on it and would just rather delete it. But it's connected to our church group and I have some other groups on there that if I'm participating in something and you need to go into those groups then I can like there's a health group or an embroidery group or a homeschool group, so if I'm doing a health challenge then I'll be on it or if I'm doing an embroidery project with some other ladies then I'll be in that group. My main use is RU-vid which because of the comment section is technically social media. You can actually disable the comments so you could just watch videos. But then there's the issue you brought up of having no control of what comes in and people deciding for you what you're going to see. I just realized recently that there is the Home and the Shorts and then Subscription tab. If you can be super diligent to only click on your subscription tab when you go into RU-vid then you will only see videos and community information from the people you subscribe to. So obviously be choosy as to who you're subscribed to. I have been wasting too much time in the shorts section and then obviously home just is whatever they want to show you so I am going to make a huge effort to not even click on those but only click on my subscriptions and watch things from the people that I am subscribed to.
7 years off Facebook/Meta!! Don't miss it at all!! 😃 Was the run up to the Presidential election when i started seeing hateful & violent content. That's when i decided enough was enough.
