HUMANE SOCIETY ( animals) and also ADOPTED an " UNADOPTABLE CALICO" who is not scared of anyone anymore!🥰 He was hiding in a box for 2 weeks and wouldn't come out to try and bond with any adoptees. I think this is one of my favorite decluttering videos of all time! I recently wrote down some of these questions with a sharpie on a couple pieces of paper, and placed in my kitchen and bedroom where I can't help but see them! Missing was the question, "do I want to live with this for the rest of my life?"... it is a true gem! I'm recently retired, and really don't want things as much as I want space and emotional freedom! Nor do I want my kids to be burdened with my things when I'm gone, as they will be dealing with their own grief. Thanks so much for this video!! Extremely doable! Extremely motivating! Thanks so much, and keep being AWESOME!

If you live near an HM store, you can take the torn, stained, or unacceptable clothing there. They will take it in any condition for textile recycling. Then, they give you a 15 % off coupon for their store. Some thrift stores (charity shops), will take this kind of clothing for crafter "rag bags"). Usually, you need to bag it separately from the "good" stuff. Call ahead to confirm - policies can change.

You are so giving me hope!!! Here`s the crazy thing that happened to me I started hourding when I was 46 out the blue kinda... It started with finding out that I was gulten sensitive .... not the celiac disease but sensitivity. Probably had it all of my life but pregnancy is a trigger too. I was one those women that walked around looking like there 6 months pregnant for years. I noticed if I ate pasta and bread without a salad for example I would almost pass out...sleeping for a few hours would help. Brain fog too I had nodigestive issues beyound the constant stomach bloat. Sorry but really it took 10 years to figure out what was wrong with me. So Whole rows of food now off limits in the grocery store... with my crazy working mom life I found dried food a soltion. I can't use a rice mix because the seasonings they used has gulten in it. There`s a thousand names for gulten by tbe way. So dried foods I could make my own taco seasoning to hambuger helper. I bought one huge bookcase put a rod and curtain on it and was very workable.... then my husband got cancer and I started adding to my food storage. Then any good deal out there , shampoo to TP to canned meat was stuffed in any spot in my house. After he passed away we moved and I am still living with boxes 3 years later. They were neck deep and now I'm knee deep. Knee deep for last 2 years and I would just get so overwhelmed trying to dig into these boxes. I thought maybe I was afraid that I would run into something that belonged to my husband. I think I did a really good job and either packing up and labelling stuff for son to use ( a lot of camping gear) or just donating as I moved. It turns out that cancer was the trigger for me. My father had cancer when I was a toddler. I don't remember much about this at all. Bits and pieces but he later told me that he was disabled from cancer and it took 18 months to get a disablty check in a household of 9 people he was the only one that was working. His parents lived with us, his dad died when I was 4 his mother went into a nurseing home when I was 7. They really couldn't help take care or the 5 children , 3 of which were under 5 then. If my mother had worked all of her pay would have gone to child care. It was a crazy time of near starvation. We had a graden big enough to can and freeze stuff from all of my childhood. That saved us really. My hourding had a reason and I am determined to get beyond that season. I this is long winded but maybe it help someone else out there that just doesn't understand what is going on.....I relized this useing the emotion code by the way. Book by Dr Bradly Nelson

OMG, I did the whole take everything out of the closet and put it on your bed.. and that was the biggest mistake EVER. I didn't realize the extent of what was going on the bed or the time it would take to put stuff back and at 11pm, I was crying because I just wanted to go to bed but couldn't even see it and had to be up at 5am to go to work the next day. This resulted in my husband's intervention of placing everything that remained on the bed into large garbage bags for me to sort through one at a time over the next week or so. NINE garbage bags later.. I was able to go to bed. It still took me another 2 weeks to finish going through the garbage bags! LOL

@@sunshine3914Psychology is complicated, isn't it? What works for one person doesn't necessarily work for someone else. I did see a video yesterday about decluttering a drawer or a closet, and they advised choosing one that you use often so that you can enjoy the results every day.

@@sunshine3914Just to add, when I started decluttering, I started with my living room because it was my #1. problem area. I was definitely overwhelmed. I had huge piles of papers that I hadn't touched for 6 years. I took the advice of Break the Twitch, who advised doing one teeny tiny thing toward your goal, so I got rid of one piece of paper. That didn't hurt, so I did some more. He said do at least one small thing every day toward the goal. I did that and in two weeks, I had decluttered my piles of papers, something that I had dreaded like death.

Instead of "would you buy it again" - which I probably wouldn't because I'm cheap, I'm lazy, and the item is most likely going to be out of production - I ask myself "if someone was trying to steal it, would I try to stop them?" I like the prinsciple of "to scale". How often do I have to do this and that? I move clothes around through the year, but many items are used year round. How many of each should I have - for me, that's "enough to fill the washing machine". Or dishwasher, for dishes and that kind of stuff. Also, I like the "onion method". Obvious trash first. Some of it gets recycled. And donations whenever something makes me go "why do I have this?". I love the idea that someone else might use what I don't need or want. Anyway, it's not going to be my problem anymore. When I consider buying something, I often ask myself, "what could I buy instead - or if I buy nothing, what could I do instead?" I also try to keep in mind that it's probably not going to outlive me. So how will I get rid of it? And the "benchmark principle" - is this item I'm considering buying, at least as good as what I have at home already? As a side note, modern people are really protective of their snacks! Just eat proper meals, and you don't have to snack.

I really want to 'correct' your 'if it's broken' ... Salvation Army frequently takes 'broken' items and they give jobs to people who can fix the items as part of their charity! (I would recommend telling them as you drop it off what's wrong with that item so they can make the decision if they want it or not) Also, for torn clothing, if your offering items on marketplace anyway, to place on your curb for 1st come, 1st pickup, I would suggest that you also post something like 'various torn clothing'... you never know who wants extra material to either practice on (a teenager who is learning to sew) or an established seamstress who could put that extra materials to good use!!! 😊

I came across your page today and after watching one of your videos, I immediately subscribed. I love your attitude, your spirit and your advice. You made quite a few points like it's ok not to feel you have to do it all at once. I lost my husband about a year and a half ago and kind of have been in a funk. The house we have loved has become such a cluttered mess, even I'm disgusted. I recently became inspired to clean this place up so to speak, and became totally overwhelmed with what needs done. Thank you for your tips and tricks. I'm now off to declutter the kitchen counter....

I was feeling so overwhelmed, especially thinking i had to do the kon mari method (which feels so daunting needing to do so much for each category at once, and with even just 1 small child I couldnt have a giant pile of things in one spot on the floor for very long). This is straight forward and something i can tackle a little bit at a time ❤

AMEN, girlfriend! I used to be so good at keeping a nice home; then I got slammed by Multiple Sclerosis! AND my husband has a traumatic brain injury, which results in a lot of impulsive buying and hoarding, but not keeping them picked up. Flashforward two decades and my MS progression of chronic fatigue and pain...I've been in the overwhelmed/paralysis stage of cleaning for awhile and have to get this stuff done. Thank you for your helpful breakdown of steps. I finally feel it is possible. And I don't feel like I'm a "bad person" if I don't get it all done within a weekend! 😃

IDK why everyone says Konmari is taking 'everything' out when it's really categories.... like not all clothes... just maybe short-sleeve Tee shirts. IDK - made sense to me

One category at a time makes sense to me too. But isn't that *modifed* Konmari?
@karunald
@karunald 11 месяцев назад
@@ingerfalch-jacobsen1717 you break it down in pieces to how you want. IDK why this is daunting.

Sometimes, people will make a littéral PILE of one entire type of item and this can be daunting and create more problems than solutions. Good point that we can break things down to sub-categories and this is what many people do, but it is a “modified” way as mentioned above.

@@MinimalistHome that was always my understanding from the book. Like if you have 50 Cutting boards. You break down to Wood vs. plastic etc. idk
