I was 22 when I got into the construction industry unfortunately in the middle of recession and I felt I was late like always, people getting laid off and I was trying to learn a trade. I felt I was late for everything and always tried things at the wrong time and little did I know I will fall in love with the Plumbing trade. I then worked for a plumbing company for 8 years; that let me to my master License at 30 years young. I obtained my license 4 years ago.

Just what I needed to hear. Been a journeyman plumber 2 years. I actually started as an hvac and sheetmetal apprentice, but the company I started at was small enough that the HVAC guys could plumb and all had apprentice cards and the plumbers could hang duct and run refrigerant lines if needed depending on what work we had going on. Guys I started apprenticeship with have been getting their master license. I just finished detailing a 43 story highrise and feeling the confidence to sign up for the test.

I really appreciate your attitude about teaching apprentices, journeymen and master plumbers. I'm a first year apprentice at 31 and am finding that many companies seem to not want their employees to be licensed because they may go start their own business and it's looked down upon, like a betrayal or being disloyal. I like that you genuinely want others to do well and it seems that your attitude has served your well and probably it's not even competition. Plumbing is obviously in high demand. I plan to keep learning and growing with the trade and don't want to be around comfortable people, who knows where that will lead. Thanks for all you bring to the table.

You’re a good man. I loved the story about the messy house. I see a lot of people in my trade treat people differently based on any number of factors. I take a lot of pride in doing my best work no matter who I am doing it for. I figure no matter who I am doing the work for, my work is a reflection of me and my work ethic and morals. That doesn’t change based on who I’m doing the work for. As long as they aren’t causing direct harm to anyone, I’ll do my best.

Roger, I’m 46 yrs old, always had a passive interest in plumbing, hate my office job, and was considering going to the local county college which offers a plumbing course to become a full-time plumber. My question is, am I to old to get into plumbing? Would anyone hire a 46-47 year old apprentice? I keep myself in top physical condition, and I have always been mechanical inclined when I need/chose to be. Just give me your honest opinion please. Thank you! Love your videos...

chad holland I have always felt that if you think you can do something you probably can. I have seen 55 year old apprentices get into this profession and make it. I have also seen 20 year old young men get in and fail. To me it is all mental attitude. If you are willing to get in and work hard to be the very best nothing can stop you! Do you think you can do it? Where are you located?

Roger Wakefield Thank you for your response. I have No Doubt I can do the job, and I want to do it. Hard work or working hard has never been an issue for me. However, we all know the world runs on connections, politics, etc. So, my biggest concern is if someone will even afford me the opportunity as an apprentice, especially after I invest money to take the courses, due to my age. That’s my only hangup right now. I’m in southern New Jersey about 25 mins from Philadelphia. Thank you!

There's things in life more important than money. You may get more money playing hardball, but when you're in your deathbed. God don't care about how rich you are. If you screw people over, and only care about the bottom line. You'll be wealthy, but miserable. If you are able to get by, but be modest enough to think about others. Your cup will always be full. Don't think trying to feel better all by yourself. You'll never find it. You'll find happiness in helping your community. That - more than anything is what this world needs to learn. You'll be happier loving your neighbors than screwing them over.

@nucleus691
@nucleus691 3 года назад
Some of the cost may be covered by your boss if he's nice enough and can benefit from it since a master title is required to train apprentices which your company will need to do sooner or later. You have mastered your trade, no you have mastered throughput initial systems, throughout present time systems. Approx every 2-years newly improvised systems arrive. Systems that no plumber has even seen, let alone touched before. You mentioned it yourself, will never surpass 98% journeyman, and or the claimed master plumber, due to futuristic 2% systems mentioned above. No such aspect as knowing everything, enivtable to never exist. Other than a sounds good person verbally claiming he or she left the green hornet within land time forgot within experience. Merely cartoon minded characters, nothing more less Handymen experimenters very high % within being able to provide light problem calls, now feel the Phcc-Service occupation school is completely un-nessesary.
