I'll be so happy when Gimp allows you to doc two windows side by side and you can clone from one while being able to see both window side by side and clone on top of the other window like in Photoshop. I wish we had the option to light a photo from beneath like Photoshop had in the beginning. This is another major reason I switched I don't like their new way of using light on photos. I used to pay for Photoshop but didn't like being manipulated in order to use their programming when I knew Gimp was out there and it has come along way since it's inception. Thanks for these tips the First one will help me tremendously in my projects.

I was not able to replicate the first trick. The partial transparency areas retained the old colour, even when I locked the alpha channel. Then I noted that in the video, there are two layers, the lower one forming the white background, while the upper one is a transparency with circles filled with colour. I got it working with this set up. Alternatively, Layer > Transparency > Colour to Alpha on the top layer, and then try filling with new colour after locking the alpha channel

9:12 I'm wondering why you had to do that. Whenever I switch tool modes, they normally stay switched till I manually switch it back or restart gimp, but it looks like you somehow got switched back to "replace current selection" automatically. Is that some kind of trick of video editing or is there some setting you have that does it or what?
@DaviesMediaDesign
@DaviesMediaDesign 4 года назад
I’m not sure why it was doing that to me - it was annoying me to be honest lol. Not a trick, just a glitch.

do you have any substitute / tricks for Adjustment Layers and smart objects for GIMP ?
@RogerioPereiradaSilva77
@RogerioPereiradaSilva77 4 года назад
I am afraid GIMP does not have anything quite like those two things at the moment although things may change as the developers keep adding features based on the GEGL library. For now, we must assume that pretty much every action is still destructive.
@m3rl1on
@m3rl1on 4 года назад
@@RogerioPereiradaSilva77 yes, i am very much looking forward to version 3.2 although i dunno how long its going to come out. Oh well, i guess i can use photopea for something like a smart object / non-destructive editing

I used the brush on saturation in PS CS6. Can this be done in GimpPhoto?
@DaviesMediaDesign
@DaviesMediaDesign 3 года назад
Technically yes - but it's a workaround. Duplicate you main image, turn the saturation up to the highest point you want your image to be saturated. Add a black layer mask to the duplicate image with the turned up saturation. Paint white or middle-gray anywhere you want increased saturation (white for more saturation, middle-gray for less).

@@DaviesMediaDesign Thanks, I'm still fumbling around learning Gimp. I have the PhotoGimp working. Next is how to get my Nik collection instaled to use with PhotoGimp. I really appreciate your teaching. Best Wishes
