Apparently some of the info included is (thankfully) inaccurate. Sorry about that! From Mary King's Close: Thank you for the mention 🤗 Unfortunately, plague victims being walled up in Edinburgh is 100% a myth & historically inaccurate. Affected residents would be sent to quarantine camps outside the city instead.
BeautyCreep Edinburghs worth a visit and the history will continue in the City you've an Old Town and a New Town I prefer the Edinburghs Old Town because it's the original street that existed all of it's historic but more the Old Town is
As I recall, Burke and Hare are the reason why we now have organ donor laws. They were also the inspiration for Mary Shelley when she wrote Frankenstein.
Erin, I am the son of a Scotsman from Glasgow, also a history P.h.D.. These stories teach us so much about real life. When most historians write or teach this real life stories, such as the polluted loch are lift out. Thank You. Bill Collins
I'm scottish living in germany and I've never been to my homeland before... I am depressed about this. This is why I watch your videos:to learn about my homeland. Thank you Erin ❤️🏴😔
I went to edinburgh for the first time yesterday for a day trip. Wish I stayed longer as I wanted to explore all creepy history edinburgh has to offer.!
This was fascinating! As someone who is also interested in dark and horrific things of course I loved this! Any future videos like this would always be appreciated. Thank Erin!
I had never been to Scotland when I started following you over 8 years ago. I think it was the Scottish accent video that got me hooked. I've been to Scotland like 5 times since. Mostly Aberdeen. Love your country! Your accent is so adorable and you're so interesting and so, so, so beautiful!
Alice Roberts did a video about Edinburgh that I watched recently. She also mentioned the north Loch. Thanks for waiting until I found my glasses before starting.
Can you do one for Glasgow next? I really enjoyed this, very interesting and disturbing lol Thank God we have toilets those poor people i can't even imagine the stench!
When you brought up Burke and Hare, my mind immediately went to a classic bit of Still Game banter "Oh look who it is, Burke and Hare" "Shut yer hole Boabby, if we were Burke and hare we wouldnae be robbin' yer grave, we'd be pissin' in it"
You should look up the history of Perth and do a video on it. I've got some books about the history here, there was a story where a woman tripped and got her hair ripped off by a passing tram. Gruesome!!
Great Video! We love these macabre stories! Please do more on Edinburgh and Scotland. You could do a weekly one Macabre Mondays or something... Haha. Love your videos. Hi from New Zealand 😊
So much to like about Scotland. These historic stories and places, beauty of the land and hospitable people I’ve heard. Hoping to visit someday, until then I keep watching as long as you keep sharing. 👍
We took a "horror tour" when we visited Edinburgh. It was very fun and informative. Learned a lot about Burke and Hare and the Witch "trials". The part about "garde l'eau" was disgusting and hilarious at the same time . 😆
@@ErinsHoose forgot to mention that we did visit a store (i think where we booked the tour from. "The Witchery" I think) that has one of the card holders that was made out of Burke's skin.
I really enjoyed this, especially since I actually knew some of what you were talking about thanks to the Lore podcast. The info about the Loch was new to me, though. I think it would be fun if you did more and actually went into a bit more detail about one or two stories instead of rushing through a bunch.
You should start a series of these and go into detail on the events after you do a top 5 on it - this is fascinating stuff. There is soo much history and I could listen to it for hours. Please keep going! ☺👍
Great upload Erin! I love the history of Edinburgh and Scotland in general, so this was definitely enthralling. I've read about some of this stuff in the past, but thanks for some new insight. There are historical stories everywhere in Scotland. Such an incredibly interesting country. CHEERS! ... from Canada.
All of your videos I've watched has been thoroughly entertaining and informative. To me you are one of the best parts. Granted Ms. Doogan, you may not be the best storyteller but ya do have a particular style that is alluring. ♥️
No wonder my relatives moved to the U.S. There's something bizarre about people crowding into a city full of pestilence set in the middle of some of the most unspoiled land in world.
brilliant video on manky edinburgh.......that norloch must have been pure bogin no wonder they got the plaque. loving your quirky dark personality a bit like mine| thinking you must be a nhs worker
I like your stories and appreciate that you have to do quite a bit of research to put one of these videos up, and you could never do it every week and do a full time job as well. Life was definitely not better in the old days. I live in a small country town with about 10,000 population and a lot of things you told about Edinburgh are just as true down here in the West Country. A few generations ago 5000 people were crammed into a dozen or so streets along the river and overcrowding and bad housing was endemic. The river was truly insanitary. The waste from a slaughterhouse was just tipped into the river and the cider mills also used to tip their waste into the river. It stank. And the streets stank. My former father-in-law told me that his aunt (or great-aunt?) used to chuck the contents of her chamber-pot out of an upstairs window into the street. And shout 'Gardy-Loo'. All the slums are gone now and the better houses in the former slum area have become quite gentrified with poshly-spoken incomers from London and the Thames Valley.
The Edinburgh witch tour was fantastic.! I would definitely move to scotland if it was possible . Would having Scottish ancestry help? 😂😂 hope you have a great week Erin and thanks for the vid!
pretty young women talking about gore and general nastiness and things like that is always very entertaining. may we have more please, thank you very much.
My favourite story I heard from a tour in Edinburgh is a woman as punishment for being a witch or just for being a woman was nailed to a barrel or wheel and rolled down the hill into the Norloch to drown.
ok i paused the video at 0:50 to see if i can guess a couple of the histories. burke and hare sonny bean rat plauge witch craft now head head gone blank lol lets see if i right lol
You know how to tell a good story Erin I never knew about the plague seems not much has changed there we have our own now may be bricking up anti vaxers would create a few jobs 😀😀
