Me and my friend recently went there. not on a tour but by ourselves. our plan was to annoy Mackenzie but we never really did. we did go up to his tomb. anyway i got two scratches on my back (the were on my shoulder and nothing scratched my shoulder) so they are unexplained. i ALSO lost my wallet on that day. so i'm sure i did annoy MR-Mackenzie to some extent.) i have photo evidence if anyone would like to see!

Good stuff. I’ve been in Scotland for bang on 30 years and still struggle to do an accent without thinking hard about it. Most folk from outside Scotland probably try to speak more like the west (coast) like yourself and in particular, Glasgow (Glesga?) Having lived in Fife and worked mainly in Dundee/Tayside. Ken is probably just as, if not more a general east thing, Dundee, etc. I lived in the zeast Neuk and the traditional accent had quite a different sound with a hard gh. Daughter would sound more like doctor. I agree with the ch sound, I think it sounds great. I was in the RAF at Leuchars and then lived in a place called Arncroach and that one was really hard to pronounce, even the locals got that wrong. What I like about the Glasgow accent is the up and down sound of it, it’s quite sing songy, even compared to yours. “Ah noo wot ya goen’ thru” …”Uz it a donut or A meringue” sound great in weegee😂 Born in Essex, brought up in Buckinghamshire and worked for 30 years in the east of Scotland, I have no Scots accent, which is kinda disappointing, , I never use ken, rarely ever use wee, but I have always used aye in preference to yes, even more than my Scots friends. Just a soft Edinburgh/ eastern lilt will do, I might just have to to force it, mebes. I’ve not been really disadvantaged by having an English accent, but it’d come in handy sometimes to sound a wee bit Caledonian. Anyway, your video is great…. Liked and subscribed!👍😀
Wee Erin. I'm from Glasgow but me mum's family are from Ballyfore. So I've a bit of a 'hybrid' accent. Back in 1964 when I started primary, I had to unlearn it and pick up a proper Glaswegian barróg as I were gettin knocked about by the playground bullies ! Now I'm stateside in Midwestern Missouri. So I do love yer content and watch for pointers to bolster me accent so that when I visit Glasgow me family isn't telling me they can't understand me ! Haste ye back, Erin ! 🍀🎸🍀
Scottish joke - man goes into a bakery and points to an item on display in the glass counter and says to the assistant, excuse me can ye tell me is that a cake or a meringue? Assistant replies, naw yer right, it’s a cake 😅
Just want to give you cred for including the things you included. You seemed to be questioning some of it but, like, the context of threatening to hit someone as if they were a child you were scolding (for example) is super interesting for theater-craft.
A beginner lesson: if someone says something and you just know their talking crap, you can say "don't geez it"!, a single eyebrow facial expression also adds weight 🤨.
I had a very strange experience whilst doing the nc500. Anyway we parked up near some woods. My partner was getting the kids ready in the car etc so I went on ahead but not to far from them. As I pushed deeper into the forest I felt really uncomfortable and felt like I was being watched shortly after I noticed that there was no sound at all. I ended up turning back and told my partner we are going put the kids back in their seats.
Thank you very much for this really interesting video! To me this language sounds very friendly! I know what you mean when you say, it feels unnatural to speak British. It also does to me when I have to speak correct German, called as 'hochdeutsch'. :-)
Been doing g it 13 years and thinks the Covenanters were marched to the Royal mile to be hanged. They were hanged in the Grassmarket. There’s a plaque there.
This is why as an American, I find understanding Scottish people so difficult. They're speaking half Standard English and half Scottish slang. Wee Swally is my favorite Scottish saying. ❤ from NJ, USA
Just read a few comments about what people think of us and you are correct 💯...we are very kind people we dont discriminate and welcome everyone to our country❤
