Gonna date myself. Back in the '70s when I was stationed at Bliss, we used to go to a place called McGregor Range for training. At least one of the latrines was 8 or 10 commodes in a row. No stalls, walls, or separation. You get used to sharing your poo in the loo so to speak. It's, hey Ski throw me the tp. Not really a big deal. you get used to it.
@@shimata17 - The wealthy could afford fresh sponges for each time. The slave who carried it away could sell only used once sponges. Sponges are very washable. Those were not artificial or cellulose sponges. All they had were genuine sea sponges.
I'm surprised we made it this far humans in general. so many problems in the past how did we not all die by plague, illness or our selves from war. crazy.
This is my 1st time commenting on a video of yours. I watch every single one and think you're great! So, are we talking about a point in written history or all history? If written history then I would like to go back to America in the mid-eighteen hundreds. It seems like there was a lot of opportunities for people living in this country around that time. I would become a land developer and/or an industrial mogul. Then leave my fortune to me in the future (I know what you're thinking and would figure it out!...lol). If all history is in play then for me it would be a simple choice. I would only want to go back to see the unfolding of one event.....WHERE AND WHAT WE ARE (Our origins).
here is some edifying creepypasta 'a Germanic gladiator had committed suicide with a sponge on a stick. The German hid himself in the latrine of an amphitheater and pushed the wooden stick into his gullet and choked to death'
This video was excellent and detailed. A lot of issues to consider but I would travel back to probably 14th century England or France. I'd just like to visit for maybe a few weeks. I would definitely love the architecture and fashion.
I'd travel back to North Ameeican Native American society before the Europeans. Not much crazy stuff as far as tech, but a lot of beautiful nature to live in and lots of things to do like sports and hunting and so much cool art. And just living in that kind of tight nit community. I guess there was a lot of war but you know
If I was immortal I would go back in time to the beginning of humans and experience everything from every part of the world. I would probably have to bring modern things with me but never use them unless I absolutely had to.
If I could,I would like to travel in time, about 1000 years ago in Spain and see a Spanish hero named Rodrigo de Bihar, better known to history as El cid
@Talsong Kingslayer It's not that they have to look for work, I am yet to come across someone on benefits who doesn't have to work. But they have to do work experience at places like Tesco (free labor) which they can't miss for actual job interviews. If they can't prove they applied for a set number if approved jobs (ie if they want to apply for jobs that aren't on the government website it isn't counted) their benefits are cut without warning, and all this jumping through hoops to be given money that isn't actually enough to live off. So instead of being able to use the money to help them look for jobs, they have to waste time choosing between heat and food. All this while being told you are a failure and a burden, even if you've worked your whole life, paying into the system, but are made redundant or had to leave due to health complications. As for those of us who are disabled or ill and physically cannot work they do everything in their power to make us believe we deserve to die.
wish I could see the future where a video about us will be made about how primitive we were starring at screen instead of entering the matrix and experincing top 10 list videos like top 10 most lethal poisons.
I am thankful every day for modern commodities and medicine. :D There's a lot still wrong with the world, but in retrospect, we have it pretty darn nice.
I'm fascinated by ancient living. I would never survive any of it for sure. I always say I'm thankful I live now rather than any other time in history.
In ancient Israel by law a man who took a woman's virginity had to marry and take care of her, she was not put to death. Stoning was the penalty for adultery and both the man and the woman were to be put to death, but the penalty was rarely, if ever imposed.
Imagine, your taking a poo on the sidewalk and you see your crush walking down the street towards you. Do you keep pooing or do you pull your pants up before your crush sees you?
I don't like going in public toilets, where we each get our own TP. A communal sponge...ewwww. To be fair, necessity often takes the place of courage. You'd be surprised what you'll do if it was just normal or you needed to.
Fun fact: During the European “Dark Ages”, China and the Middle East were going through a golden age of art and scientific discovery. Without their innovations during this period, the Europeans would have never made it to the Renaissance.
I'd travel a thousand years in the past, when people thought that the earth was flat, and be like "don't worry bro, I'm from 1,000 years in the future and there are still people in my time that believe that."
The ancient Greeks knew that the earth was round. (Think of the statue of the titan Atlus, who carried a globe on his back.) You'd have to go farther back than 2000 years.
@@water9892 - Because from a practical viewpoint there's nothing in marriage for men. And it's previous generations of men's fault for letting it get this way.
so true! they always think our ancestors were dummies. they would have their own sponge. our ancestors were not stupid, just born before we invented anything.
All I can say and I always repeat when things get somewhat rough for me: I am SOO glad that I live now, in THIS era! I have food in my refrigerator, safe roof above my head, modern means of communication, medical aid that can treat most dangerous infectious diseases and so much more. I am a truly happy person!
Aquila Calvitium //What are you talking about? The communal sponge would be licensed as Trump Sponge. It's the best sponge, the best ever. Believe me. And you saying pee pee wash mouth? Are they free, because in Russia it's expensive as hell. Let's roll baby!!
A lot of people forget how much modern medicine has changed perspectives. We only need to go back a relatively short amount of time to find that such things as infant mortality was high, and that even applied to the mothers.
If there is a few examples of these things they're so easily assumed to be the most common thing, and since they're so awful it's interesting to talk about. Wich is why im very sceptical about this stuff.
@@makeshifttechnology1738 ~ Even as a young person I couldn't wrap my head around the so-called "Double Standard". It was perfectly OK for men to screw around, but if a woman did it, she was shunned. So I asked my mum, "Did the men just do it together?" I didn't have a clue about homosexuality, so the entire business bewildered me. She never did explain things; it's probably just as well.
@@makeshifttechnology1738 What about the men who weren't killed at birth, who were not sold into slavery by men, buried alive by men or stoned to death by men for having sex? Those men?
@@milomilo55 - "Those men" got to go off and be slaughtered in wars. Childbirth wasn't as dangerous for peasant women. They were hardier. Weak ones died when young children, leaving the hardy ones to grow up and bear children. The peasants ate coarse foods. No sweet dainties for them.
In the days of old when the knights were bold, and toilet paper had yet been invented. They dropped their load on the side of the road and walked away contented.
In those times India had more then 1/3 the world's economy. World economy stands around 78 trillion today and US's is around 19 trillion that still is 1/4th. It was so till the 18th century before the British took over and didnt care to industrialize the nation.
If you'll dig a little deeper, you'll find that the purported mentions of Jesus the Christ from Nazareth, Galilee, in the Works of Flavius Josephus are later additions well after Josephus' demise.
for me it would be japan, and i would have been a samurai and learn the sword and bow. although I would have had to been born into it. but this is now and I still practice with a sword and bow minus tha samurai.
My ancestors were sanitary and had better water and clean streets, (my ancestors being most probably huichol or aztec) i would like to travel back to those times but also risk of being sacrificed xD
I have a condition called Intracranial Hypertension. I don't want to think about what my life would have been like if I was born in the past, because without treatment the pressure from the spinal fluid in my head would build and build until the pain is excruciating and it causes irreparable damage to my optic nerve, making me blind.
Yes its true, i came across it before. It can also be a cloth tied to the end of a stick...you wipe and move right along. I don't know if it's even cleaned between uses, that part was never really clarified.
I basically grew up in the woods. Digging a latrine was a natural occurrence immediately upon setting camp. So that's no worry. I'd love to visit the most revered ancient time and land. Las Vegas 1975, oh the sights, wonders, and Mob run casinos. But Seriously, I'd be happy to be here. The good old U.S.A. However around the year 1200. I just wish to see what our Great Land looked like before it was ruined, I mean "Discovered" by Europeans
that first part about the toilet is almost exactly like Mexico. At the houses they do go in a hole and bury the poo however they do have toilet paper you can buy. Once you leave the house though you do go to the bathroom on the road. Iyou do happen to find a toilet at a gas station you have to pay and there is usually no toilet paper, soap or water. Of course this is not at tourist areas.
Cons: 1. No video games 2. No internet 3. Horrifying toilet realities 4. Plagues and sickness and no cure 5. Rule of Might (still relevant though definition of might has readjusted) Pros: 1. More opportunities for actual exploration 2. Much less people around and more free space 3. Better more numerous woodlands(managed woodlands not primitive woodlands we have now) 4. Better looking buildings, better looking weapons, better looking clothes, 5. Simpler way of life
