In this first video of a three part series on fishing a rising river, the water is still clear, and the big rain producing system is approaching. The action is slow until the rain begins and the barometer drops. Recognizing when to "upshift" to power fishing presentations for river smallmouth is such a critical skill. I had endured a 5 hour period with no fish caught, but when the storm approached, I went big, noisy and fast to connect with several fish between 18 and 20 inches in a short period of time. My inflatable kayak by Innovative Sportsman, the Osprey 1436 was the perfect platform to capitalize on this type of situation.

i've learned alot from you brother. I love the great Susquehanna! There's just something magical about that water. Took my 6 yr old daughter when it was blowed out, if I'd been alone, i would have fished it, but wasn't taking my baby out there in that wild water! Just went back last week and had a blast. Tons of smaller fish with a couple quality susky small jaws! Can't wait to return!

Great Video Jeff ! I power fished going up river yesterday and today, then I finesse fished on the drift back down river, no success power fishing with the jackhammer or the whopper plopped Couple of taps, no hook up. Caught a 19” on a trd craw but very slow both days?? I don’t get these fish?somedays ?Lol 😂 I really start talking to myself and laugh about it 😂but I keep going back. 😂 I gotta get up to the Susquehanna.

Listen to the birds. When they get noisy, it’s time to power fish. When they are quiet, go with finesse.

The Evergreen SB is legit. Got one in the 105 size in American Shad and it has been doing numbers for me.

@@TheLittleStuff Definitely! I've even caught some downright deranged sunfish on it that are no bigger than 2/3rd the size of the lure.

Some beautiful fish. And chunky Too. I hope GoPro sponsors you Jeff. That other camera is great too. What spinning set up were you using? A huge thank you for all the work you put into your videos. I know it has to be a grind with all you have going on. Just know it is appreciated. Love those Bates reels too

I used my striper spinning rod to throw that Shower Blow. It handles the bigs nicely. I purchase the GoPro cameras when I need to. I have at least one friend who is sponsored by them who might have slipped me one. The Insta360 is an amazing tool to get special angles, and follow the action. That hand held is the workhorse though. I’ve found another used one to replace the one that died. It’s also on its last legs, but it will keep me filming another few months maybe.

You can do a float trip and catch a few eddies, but you’ll be crashing the spots where the fish are.

Thats been my problem. Just to much flow for me to paddle this week. I went Monday and Today. I still have so much to learn. But thats half the fun for me. @@TheLittleStuff
