desiree asked how do you keep bees away
00:05
from your hummingbird feeders this is a
00:07
great question because wasps always come
00:09
and you know just hang out and they
00:11
drink out of it i don't really mind but
00:14
yeah if you don't want a lot this is how
00:16
you do it yeah notice they don't come to
00:18
that one they come together they can't
00:19
there's no fluid for them to get to they
00:21
can't get down through the hole
00:23
and they can't reach the fluid and the
00:24
fluid is not getting pushed out when you
00:26
have one of the other feeders
00:29
like this it's always going to be some
00:31
dripping around here the bees have ready
00:34
access
00:35
to sugar water and so you get a
00:37
collection of bees on here and the
00:38
hummingbirds have to fight with them to
00:40
see who's going to drink the nectar and
00:42
it's only because they drip yeah that's
00:44
it and that's another reason i use
00:46
almost exclusive police because i don't
00:48
have any problem with bees at all yeah i
00:50
never even thought about that but yes
00:51
they we have the a tubular feeder and
00:54
the wasps come to that but i kind of
00:56
like i don't mind with a good ant moat
00:58
you can keep the ants from getting right
01:00
about having to buy another ant moat and
01:01
the chickadees
01:03
love to drink this water for some reason
01:05
i don't know why but they're always up
01:06
here drinking water gold fences will
01:08
come in goldfish is awesome but desiree
01:10
i'm glad that you asked the question
01:12
because you certainly don't want to have
01:14
bees competing with your hummingbirds
01:17
for your nectar and that's a great
01:19
question i had no idea so we we'd love
01:22
that you guys all asked these questions
01:24
yes and that i didn't wasn't thinking
01:25
about it but that's another reason to
01:26
use this type of feeder because of the
01:28
bees and i didn't think about it because
01:30
i don't have a bee problem
01:32
because i use one of these
01:34
exactly
01:46
hello this is richard cole i want to

I have that feeder I still have bed bees EVERYWHERE Around it

There are some guards for that feeder that makes it so the bees can't get the nectar. They may still come around but don't hang out once they find they can't reach the nectar.

Stings can be deadly for the hummers, that is why the wasps and bees can easily run them off..

If bees are causing a problem at a Hummer High Rise feeder, it is most likely due to nectar getting onto the outside of the feeder - usually just under the outside edge of the red feeder lid. If the feeder is filled too close to the top of the bowl, or the lid is not pressed on all the way, nectar can get around the cover and onto the outside of the feeder. Winds and sometimes animals jumping on, or batting the feeder can contribute to this problem. So, it is better to put less nectar in the feeder to prevent this. Afterwards, it may take a few days for the bees to stop coming to the feeder looking for food. If this does not solve the problem please send me more information or pictures to explain it. Enjoy the birds, Richard Cole

I have two of the same style feeders, the hummingbirds have to go straight down to access the nectar. I have bees / wasps galore. I had one just like the one in the video here that he recommended, with the moat, only larger. It attracted bees as well.

@@twocyclediesel1280It attracts bees, you said, but can they get to the nectar? Even after you clean/wash that kind of feeder?
@twocyclediesel1280

@@elaineenialle3594 Yes, I wash and change the nectar every 3-4 days. It seems like they go for the little bit of nectar that the birds spill around the openings. They buzz around from spot to spot, spending more time flying really. It seems like they smell it and continuously try to get what they can. Maybe NC bees are more tenacious :)

I can’t see any hummingbirds in my feeders, is it because the bees are a nuisance. I’m aggravated by the bees. Summer is short and I haven’t seen any hummingbirds 🙁

Thank you! I’m having a big problem with bees on my humming bird feeder, and I never wanted to attract them, I don’t want the humming birds fighting with them for the nectar I put outside. Of course I don’t want to harm the bees either, I just don’t want them to get mad at me and bite me some some reason! lol

It would have been nicer to see a close up of that feeder. We have no idea what it looks like on top.

My hummingbirds just fly by the feeders and don’t care for it. What is wrong. Clean the feeders, it’s attracting more bees then hummingbirds
