I love how Sate Pestage would have no problem standing up to Palpatine in the beginning and especially how he came into the full fold (with an auto blaster)
I’d love to see this also. But as it doesn’t have pew pews it most likely wouldn’t get done. People called Andor slow, and that was as politically charged as we’ve seen since the prequels
Weirdly enough I've always thought Palpatine should've kept Dooku alive, not as an apprentice since obviously Anakin was destined for that spot, but as an administrator, commander or something else, after all Dooku was a man of many talents outside the force and lightsaber combat, plus his continually advancing age would ensure he wasn't much of a threat at time went on. In fact that was the lie Palpatine told Dooku, that it would be the three of them, Palps, Dooku and Anakin ruling the empire. I dunno, just seems kind of a waste of talent, though I suppose Anakin killing Dooku was his introductory dark side test. Eh, perhaps I'm underestimating Palpi's paranoia as he liekly thought Dooku would betray him later.
I don't remember where I read this, but Vader apparently hated Ozzel because of how he rose through the ranks by virtue of his family connections and so forth. This was also why he was more forgiving of Piett, who had risen through the ranks by his competence rather than who he knew.
@Nexus_Stuff It’s an interesting point. War is merely a continuation of politics by other means, adhering to von Clausewitz, but Thrawn was never put in a time of peace to lead. Being as analytical and intelligent as he was, though, I don’t find it difficult to believe he could have led a revived Empire with enough deftness to build a lasting position. If nothing else, his iron grip on power and unparalleled ability to multitask and play the long game (with Palpatine as the only competition in that regard) would ensure his limited political skills would not come up as often as they otherwise would. After all, you don’t need to be capable of handling political infighting if all of your potential rivals are either obedient, fearful, or dead.
I'm surprised there was no mention of Gallius Rax, the man Palpatine single-handedly entrusted with Operation Cinder. He was responsible for the Emperor's final plan, The Contingency, meant to burn the Empire to the ground in the event of Palpatine's death.
The mention of Tarkin Doctrine reminded me of the fact that Tarkin did not actually like the Death Star as an idea while it was being built. He says as much to Grand Admiral Thrawn during Star Wars Rebels when discussing Thrawn's TIE Defender program.
@@jakestakes9075 I'll have to rewatch the episode to be certain but I think he disliked the Death Star because it seemed more like a trophy than a competent military machine.
There were massive delays and cost overruns with the DS, making it akin to a massive vaporware project, Tarkin was finally impressed with after it was completed and destroyed Jedha.
As a United States Citizen, I can confirm. My birthgun was a Ruger P90. My mom still has it in a box with my baby blanket and typical grenade-pin pacifier.
I never knew the USA has the most tigers in the world and texas by itself has just less than India in 2nd that's a cool fact thanks also great vid as always
@@Colonel_Overkill As long as you keep it unloaded, it's the perfect counterpart to a teddy bear. solid when the bear is too soft, cool when the bear gets too hot. It really is a great treasure for young children.
Palpatine has greater grasp on future goals, putting unrelated pieces together. Tarkin's human supremacy is a tactically exploitable weakness because he's choosing ignorance and he's not very nuanced with his political appearance. Fine as a Sith trait but considering Damask was a Muun and the entire grand plan involved working with many different species and being a two-faced bastard i think Palpatine is the superior choice.
Plagueis would still choose palpatine as he was imperative to the grand plan. Read the Plagueis novel, it explains even how palpatine came to take maul and basically all the galactic dealings which lead to the prequels, put into place by Plagueis and later helped by a young palpatine, before he killed him just as he became supreme chancellor.
Out of the five you mentioned, Thrawn is my absolute favourite without a doubt. Another favourite of mine is Mara Jade, who like Anakin, would have almost a parent/child relationship with Palpatine (at least on her part).
Nah. The way the clones thought didn’t with with the empire mindset. They started showing that in the bad batch too how the clones won’t lie no matter who tells them to…
Talk about playing a long game. Moving his chess pieces over a lifetime in the pursuit of absolute power. Probably thought it was all worth it until his black knight threw him down the tube.
7:10 christ where can i find a free surplus firearm... ok ok that sounds weird but truly i just want a cool gun to not only defend myself but show national pride.
Thrawn is a bit of a grey area in this list as although he was trusted by Sidious, would never had said that he was really mentored by Sidious in any meaningful way. as by time he joins the empire was already a talented tactician and military genius without equal/ Would have been better off swapping him out for Gallus Re4x.
It was a mystery at best to figure out if Dark Vader Aniken and we still don't know Darth Maul's real name . But how come everyone knew dark Tyranus as Count Duku
It's maul, just maul. As for Dooku, nobody knew him as a sith, or at least nobody besides the Jedi cared because the rest of the galaxy saw the sith and jedi as warrior monks and did not know much beyond that. Count Dooku was a politician 1st, Sith 2nd. He never let the dark side consume him and used it as a tool. He is more of a "gray jedi" imo.
@@OzzianmanSadly not correct here. Dooku embraced the less sadistic parts of a sith like Palpatine did but remember he was only an apprentice. He was consumed by the idea of ruling the galaxy by Palpatines side and wanted greater power. He used force lightning which required a user to tap into the dark side, he did not have this ability as a jedi and needed to tap into the dark side to do so. Dooku would also murder tons of jedi during the Clone Wars such as Yaddle and Sifo Dyas. Dooku also stole a lot from his own people and CIS systems as highlighted in Episode 3 of the bad batch. A grey jedi would be someone like Ashoka Tano, Quinlan Vos or even Qui Gon Jinn one could argue. All three disagreed with the ideals and principles of the Jedi but still viewed the dark side as a greater evil. Ashoka Tano is an excellent example as she used her abilities for good, still used her emotions despite the jedis interesting view on that but did not consider herself a jedi as she was vested in revenge against Vader. Quinlan is a great example of another grey jedi as his beliefs and the way he acted went against the jedi code and jedi etiquette! He used the dark side but ultimately returned to balance when saved by Ventress. Qui Gon Jin a man who found the jedi to be crippling themselves and was sick of the Senate took a neutral approach to the Force which served him well as he went on to teach Obi Wan and Yoda how to become force ghosts. Overall I can see why you think Dooku could be considered a grey jedi but as soon as he fell under the apprenticeship o Sidious any idea of neutrality was gone. He was a brilliant character but a terrible person to his own people, the jedi and ultimately was happy to betray Sidious and rule the galaxy.
@@vexi_7 I saw episode 3 of the bad batch as excessive taxation of Serrano & other CIS planets more than theft. As in Civil forfeiture or armies foraging in conquered territory. Legal. Theft is illegal. Dooku was the law on Serrano. He didn't steal squat. Dooku believed that the ends justified the means. Sure he'd take everything from a family on Serrano, leaving them to starve. It's legal taxation, the planet is in a war for freedom! Sacrifices must be made! The new order will right all the wrongs and be worth all the blood. Can be morally wrong and still not be theft. The rebels in the OG trilogy are terr0wrists and lawbreakers of the most extreme measure. TLDR Theft is unlawful taking. Dooku was the law on Serrano. Therefore he did not steal. Dooku failed the planet and people he was responsible for by LOSING the war.
you forgot gallius rax, gallius was a child on jakku who snuck aboard palpatine's personal ship was discovered by sidious then sidious basically raised him palpatine groomed him to basically take over once palpatine died
Sly Moore Kinman Dorian Sate Pestage Wulf Yularen and his Chagrin Vizier were the 5 he trusted most because he knew all their power came from him and betrayal of any sort was instant death. Vader was never trusted because he was a Sith and Tarkin was never trusted because if he turned he had the knowledge, wealth and connections to cripple his Empire.
5:10 Ozzel didn’t have a fiancé. It was an existential moment when he was dying that caused him to look back on his life and his mind was fuzz. In reality, Ozzel flirted with the idea of joining the Rebellion. In his oxygen deprived mind this idea took the form of a fiancé that wanted to join the Rebellion.
Darth Sidious two people he personally mentored that was a success was Anakin Skywalker, and Colonel Wolff Yularen. Darth Sidious was the closest thing Anakin had to a true father in Anakin’s eyes. Colonel Wolf Yularen was a huge success story in the clone wars, and a bigger success in the ISB. I believe the colonel truly believed he was doing the right thing in his mind for “the republic.“ That was now the Galactic Empire. I just don’t know if the kernel was truly aware the damage she was causing to people in the galaxy or not. It’s like it’s two different people. The admiral versus the colonel. They have similarities, but one is more cool than the other and I’ve always wondered. Did he actually recognize it himself that he was being that harsh on the citizens of the galaxy. I would like Star Wars to flush out more of his story from the clone wars to the ISB. In the show rebels, he is portrayed as a wise man that just wants to protect the galaxy from the rebels.
Ozzel great secret is that he is the one who help Pally find a very good tailor.... and he is to blame that the Emperor got to know his favorite drink... You don't forget a man that do a favor like that...
Palpatine recognised Thrawn as a potential competitor within the Imperial hierarchy and kept him busy pacifying the Unknown Regions, far from Coruscant.
Wait. I never thought about it before, but how did Anakin not get merc’d by clone troopers when Order 66 happened? Palpatine goes from anointing him “Darth Vader” to executing Order 66. The clones aren’t informed he’s not a Jedi anymore; they go straight into kill mode. He should have walked out of Palpatine’s office into a hail of blaster fire as soon as he showed his face to any clones. Am I missing some hidden lore thing where Palpy tacked on a “except this guy, a pretty notable Jedi” somewhere?
What about one true son, Triclops? I heard he was supposed to be a pretty big deal. If you don't know who I'm talking about, try finding and reading the original "Official Star Wars Encyclopedia.
Vader also, unlike Palpatine, had on many MANY occasions led and commanded troops in combat. And so likely saw through Ozzel even before his massive blunder at Hoth. Palpatine could have been misled about his abilities, or even purposely allowed the idiot an admiralty because making people miserable amuses him. Vader, on the other hand, has zero time for it. Addendum: GT is absolutely correct about the birth sidearm we receive upon being discharged from the hospital/armory with our birth mothers here in the states.
Come on, you’re being intentionally misleading. In America we aren’t given a 1911 along with our birth certificate. It’s a voucher that can be redeemed on our 1st birthday.
For Palpatine, trust is a relative thing, he may trust some more then others, but never completely. Its a good insurance policy for tyrants, but also because he is a Sith. They expected and encourage it treachery, there whole philosophy built around it.
Palpatine is a weeb he deeply believed the anime trope that a person can never lose with the power of friendship….and a giant moon size super weapon but mostly friendship
we ran out of tigers in my state so i had to hunt moose with a 1911. lemme tell you, not easy. i'd have taken the tiger. should've transitioned earlier to avoid the tiger trial.
I reckon Thrawn was politically savvy but his mission was to assess the Empire/Republic’s military and ally himself accordingly. He was able to use his reputation to secure a political position for his mentee. Very well played.
