Helvetti, dear Maari! I am 65 now, knitting and crocheting since I was 3 years old, and FINALLY I found somebody who shows me how to make proper edges in double crochet pieces! I am more of a knitter, so I didn't spend a lot of time and energy to find it out but tricks like these, simple but effective, make crocheting so much more fun. Kiitos paljon! ❤ Regards from Germany Susanne
OMG the tip on how to use 1 ball of wool and make it into 3 strands is amazing! So simple. Wish I had known this years ago and your other tips are also really helpful. Thank you 😊
This was a game changer for me!!! I just frogged a baby blanket, and then used the turn around recommendation for sc (U.S.). It works on extended sc as well. I am beyond stoked!!!
I always thought the uneven edges were because I was doing something wrong, so thank you for your tip to fix those uneven bumps on the end of each row!
I watched so many tutorials on the magic circle and just couldn't get it right. Then I found one where it started as I normally do...but just twist the hook. I was so mad that it had been so complicated before, but so pleased when I finally had it "figured out" haha.
This was how we all began as kids. If you think about it, this stitch teaches us how to hold the hook, hold the yarn, how to feed the yarn, hold the tension, and biggest of all, how to do all of that at the same time.
I’ve taught my disabled step-sister to single crochet and she made scarves for everyone. She was also left-handed and I’m right-handed. It was er tough to teach her.
I absolutely love your tips, and your channel. I’m 73 been crocheting since I was 8 and I’ve learned so much more from you. The magic ring your way is definitely the best, I didn’t know you could crochet an Icord, I always knitted mine thanks for the wonderful tip. I nearly fell off my chair when I saw how easy it was to make yarn thicker. I’ll explain how I recently did it, and if you or anybody laughs at me I won’t be offended😊 so I had a ball of yarn and needed to triple it, my idea was unravel all the ball, spread it out along the floor and try to divide it into three. Well I had yarn everywhere, my husband decided I needed help and between the two of us we were able to untangle the mess and get the thickness I wanted, after all that the three sections were not even, one section was about half a meter longer than the others. Oh dear😂😂😂🤣🤣
Oh wow, that was a story! 😂 Definitely the tip with the loops is easier, doesn't take up a whole floor! This shows, we keep learning right through life, I'm happy I always come up with some new tips from various sources too!
Wow, that i-cord tip is a real game changer! I usually hate knitting/crocheting i-cords, but you made it look so easy that I'm looking forward to trying it in a project.
I discovered your RU-vid channel about 3 years ago. Your patterns super and your instructions very clear, logical and easy to follow. Just have to tell you that your latest series of tips are just the best ever, invaluable. Thank you, thank you!😊
I always stitch mark my chains, namely for ones in the triple digits. It’s so hard to keep track of them at that point. I loved all these tips though! I have a project that requires super bulky yarn but it’s expensive to buy super bulky yarn so your navajo weaving tip was exactly what I needed!!! Thank you so much and please continue to upload! I love learning more about crochet and you teach it well!
I only recently discovered your videos Tuula, and I’m hooked-play on word intended lol. Thank you so much for these tips, wonderful knowledge to have indeed. Between you & Crystal, from Bag-O-Day, I am set for life with tutorials for projects to make. You’re a great teacher & a beautiful soul, thank you for being there to help all of us along our crochet journeys. 💜💜💜
oml the way people try to teach you the magic circle is incredible..yours is perfect...thankyou...and for the tip before that with the holes on the ends of the rows..i hated making clothes because of not being able to fix it nicely enough... many thanks for your time and effort...
I had a sock yarn that was the perfect color needed but I needed it to be a 4 weight. I took 3 skeins and laboriously unrolled them it one monster ball. Lol… this was an awesome tip !!! The only one I always use is the magic circle but from now on I will incorporate YOUR Tips. TFS
Hi Tuula - I was lucky to begin crocheting at a very young age because my grandmother lived closed by. She taught me using steel hooks and 10 weight cotton thread --she did beautiful fine work edging tablecloths and pillowcases that were made from sugar and flour sacks! Your tips were great - the two that were new to me were the method to keep the edges straighter and making a heavier yarn using strands from the same ball! Thank you for taking the time to share these -( even tho I'm over 70) it is great to learn and improve no matter what you are doing.
Hi! I’ve also been crocheting since age 5. Yes, it amazes me that there are so many valuable tips in the past few years. Thanks so much for sharing your tips. Very nice video. More please. 😊
You're the best!!❤❤❤ Saving this video to ALL 8 of my crochet playlists😊 Edit; one tip I always use is chain foundation very loosely and crochet in the back bump of my chain lol even if it takes a week☺ Tip; I have a designated a photo album to just "crochet" so that I'm not scrolling thru tons of other pics. Sometimes I make notes on the pic of other important details...❤ Great video, Thank you❤❤
Thank you! Yes, crocheting into the back bump makes a much nicer start but I'm often too lazy to do that 😀 I should also make crochet albums on my phone, on the computer where I transfer all photos from the phone I have about a million albums divided by all sorts of things but none on the phone! A great tip!
Thank you...its always exciting to see you have posted a new video...I always learn or refresh what I have learned...you certainly are the yarn whisperer !!!
I love your I cord! I like to use numbered beads. Some have quite large holes that fit stitch markers. I use them for example, for the row i left off or yes the size hook I’m using or anything that i might forget that has a number!! For me its easier than writing it somewhere and losing it 😊
I absolutely love this. When I was younger I had done this for a few years. Family came along. And I put it away. Off from memory I picked it up again. Wow the ideas blow my mind. Would love to have a tea day or coffee.... And watch some more of your ideas! Thanks. Oh, now it's for grandchildren and great grandchildren
The Navajo plying, or whatever it's called, is a revelation to me! I am so thankful that you shared this! I have used it already and have many planned projects for fine yarn that I was gifted...🎉😅❤
Waw! The tip on extending the ball of yarn into 3 rows of yarn at once is genius!!! I have a lot of very fine baby yarn and this trick lets me use it up as thicker yarn for projects. Thanks so much for sharing ❤️❤️
I am a long time crocheter and have used all of your wonderful five tips regularly. They are great but your bonus tip is absolutely marvelous. I always have several project bags going at home and also several in the car at the same time. (I get bored too easy!) Your bonus tip will be my new all-time favorite. Thanks for the great tips and wonderful videos you create.
Fabulous tips, thank you. And I agree, your technique for the magic ring is awesome! I never had success with it before, but I did it first time following your video! :D 😍 It's a real game changer for me! x
@@TuulaMaaria Just wanted to say I've gained a lot more confidence in my work now, because of how much better it looks using your magic ring. I've used it multiple times today lol! Thanks again! x
Great tips, thank you! I know and always use the magic ring; I absolutely love the first tip, edging was my nightmare (until now) 😻 Thanks and greatings from Praha CZ
You are such a great source of information! Thanks for these tips! I always mark my chains at 20 stitches. Your description of the magic circle is amazingly clear and simple! And I'll never have an uneven edge again!❤
I always have the working yarn coming from the ball, so I don't measure that. The tail needs to be 3x the length, I haven't actually measured how much yarn it takes from the ball compared to the tail. For this reason I point out the tail and the working yarn separately at the start. I should have added that the working yarn is still in the ball, I didn't think of that!
A magic ring is a loose slip knot. That’s it. That looks complicated. I make a circle with the yarn and pull the loop through & tighten. We all do what’s comfortable for us.
OMG. I've watched many videos for magic loop. I've tried doing it a thousand times to no avail. I wish I'd seen your video first, because now I can do it. Thank you.
Wow. That tip for making your yarn thicker is FANTASTIC. Love that one so much. I was just contemplating going to buy more wool but now I don’t have to. Thank you so much. 👍👍👍
Wow! I really love the magic circle tip. But most of all, I like the straight edges. I'm working on a sweater - almost 2/3 finished - and wish I had used your straight-edges technique at the seams. It builds sturdier seams to sew. Thank you for all 'six' tips.
For the magic loop, I do the same but around point and index finger because the gap between the fingers makes it even easier to slip the hook in 😊 Great video as always!
Thank you so much for this video. I truly learned a lot. The very last tip is an incredible idea. I would never have thought to take a picture of my project along with the crochet hook that I was using. Thanks again and have a great day.
TY Tuula! I’ve been crocheting since childhood and this is the first time I’ve seen a stitching solution to that awkward, last Double Crochet on the row lump! I’m going to use this hint immediately on my current dog sweater project. 😊
A tip I often give new crocheters when working back & forth in rows, is to put a stitch marker in the top of the chain at the beginning of the row, that way you can see where your last stitch goes, helping to keep the work even & making sure all stitches are worked. If a piece of work is going to be used often, I normally do a double magic ring for extra security. I love your videos keep up the good work, thank you
Tuula, you are such a blessing to share these tips so generously. May you reap a multitude of blessings back. Thank you so very much. I am going to try the thickening tip just in time for me, as I could not find the needed to complete this project. God richly bless you, dear heart. PS: You still have that sweet smile and countenance as you did at five. xx

I too have been crocheting since I was around 5. This is how I make and teach my students on making a magic ring. So much simpler to understand. I love the other tips as well. Thank you for sharing these tips.
I was having problems with the foundation crochet until I watched your video. No other video ever told me that the LEFT SIDE is the chain side and the RIGHT side is the single/double crochet side. I was never sure which side to make my next stitch into because when you first start it the stitches aren't as clear as when the row starts to grow. So now I am a left-sided girl LOL. You are the BEST! Kim😊
I love the magic circle, my doilies and barbie clothes looked so much better. I must try the double yarns and the cord pattern. Thank You for showing your tips and tricks.
I discovered your videos on YT totally by accident, and I have to say your tips and your teaching skills are second to none - you are brilliant, Tuula!
I just wanted to let you know that the way you showed us how to pull the yarn thru each stitch on the foundation row really helped me get it right. Thank you! ❤
I’m trying to learn how to crochet correctly. I can make many items following people on RU-vid, but from you, I have learned so much more by watching just a few of your videos. Thank you for your expertise. 💕💃🏻
Great video, thank you. I use my phone for everything , I just never thought to use it for tracking project hooks. Double 2tg is a great way to keep edges neat, I'll give it a try on my next scarf. But, I'm a 2 finger gal for the magic circle, it's easier to insert the hook. You have a beautiful home and view.
Thank you! It often takes someone to give an idea, I didn't think of taking photos of crochet hook sizes myself either! - I filmed that in my daughter's house, I was cat-sitting ( showed the cat in last week's video 😄)
