I honestly don't know how I thought I could crochet before I met you. I have been crocheting for 59 years and it was just ordinary. Then I found you and my crocheting has improved in leaps and bounds. It's great being able to go over some older vidoes to refresh my memory. You have given me a new enthusiasm for crochet and I will never stop. Thank you.

My grandma started teaching me to crochet when I was 8 or 9 years old, but she passed away before I turned 10 so she didn't really have time to teach me very much. All I really knew was the chain, slip stitch, single and double crochet and how to weave in my ends. Since I didn't yet have the skills to make a lot of very useful items, hadn't yet learned to read a pattern, had no one else in the family to teach me, and could not figure out from written instructions how to work new stitches like the half double and triple crochet, I lost interest fairly quickly. Then the internet happened, RU-vid was invented, and I recently discovered the crochet community. So, here I am, more than 40 years later, spending entire afternoons watching wonderful, generous people like you crochet online, trying my best to imitate what you do, and feeling so proud of myself when I get it right! Sometimes, I feel like I'm 8 years old sitting on the couch with my grandma again. Thank you so much for sharing your skills and knowledge with the rest of us!

I am happy that you are doing this Video. This 1st one is how I've been doing mine ends. I never like the whole chain 1 since it doesn't count as a stitch N you don't need it. One day i tried it N like it been doing for a few years now. Am far from an experiences Crocheter. I am glad there's finally a Video so many beginners will see it now. I never saw a Video on where you don't really need to chain 1 at the end of every row. Thanks for sharing this

Hey, on the topic of fine tuning: Could you make a video about crocheting in the round and how to avoid unsightly joins/make the join neater? For instance you could show techniques to substitute chaining 2/3 when double crocheting in the round (maybe also for crocheting sc, hdc and other popular stitches in the round) or how to best hide color changes. There are many techniques and videos of all of that, but I’d be interested in which ones you like the best (and why).

Thank you, good ideas for a video! One I already have, my favourite way of starting a new row and round without chaining 2/3, the standing stitch ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZYTXKWpdLco.html. I'll add the other ones on the list of future video ideas!

Amazing how just the slightest change can create such a different look. Thankyou ! I have been crochets since I was 14 and am now 52 but I was self taught and only had books and had a very difficult time. I wish I could have known you years ago, glad I can learn now better ways ❤to

That s so simple but I never would’ve thought about doing it. The edges don’t lie tho they’re much nicer with the stretched stitch. I have always turned my work so that the yarn falls to the back but everyone on RU-vid does the opposite so of course I felt like I’m doing it wrong. So thank you for making me feel vindicated in how I turn my work😂🥰

Oh, in all crochet I would see it important to turn so that the yarn stays at the back, otherwise you get an ugly piece of yarn easily showing! Although I have very rarely seen anyone turn that way on videos but there must be then if you have seen it often!

@@TuulaMaaria so many of the videos I watch do but these are pattern videos not teaching how to actually crochet so maybe that is the difference. They’re not really making a piece true to size. Mostly just mini swatches of the blanket or shawl

@@TuulaMaariaI did some crochet as a teenager, but mostly knitted mittens for my siblings, and have only within the last five years started crocheting again. I've always wondered whether it makes a difference, turning back to front or front to back, and I too have seen both ways on RU-vid, and now you've answered that question! Can you answer, tho, what do you mean, "the yarn falls to the back?" My biggest problem is maintaining consistent tension, especially at the end of rows, where my stitches get tighter and tighter.
