As I get Older I have grown tired of my big top-heavy bike...I've had several ....these days I trailer a much smaller, simpler bike to where I want to ride (XT250). It cuts down on the danger of riding all those miles and all my stuff stays in my truck...I have more fun...because I am not as fatigued by the time I get to my destination...I usually stay in a cheap motel, my wife comes along sometimes and some days she shops and I ride...and somedays we go on big hikes.......good video....I like the drink holder..

GSA Rider here, too. Water bottle holder idea was great. I've occasionally used a Camelback style bladder in backpack. It was a bit of a production to fill & clean. (Used to fill w/ ice at McDonalds. Now the fountain drink machines are gone.) Cycling bottle is easier, simpler. Love to hear of other ideas to stay cool in Summer. I'm in South Florida.
@mustachemoto
@mustachemoto 9 месяцев назад
I've thought about the camelbak too. Aside from the cleaning issues, if you wear it cuts back on airflow and if you strap it on the bike it gets in the way. I lived in Naples when I bought my first bike, so I feel you with the heat. Please subscribe, I've got more videos on the way!

I chose to use a Camel Back bladder in a back pack as well. I too stopped at McDonalds or other fast food restaurants to fill it with ice. I would usually ask to buy a large water and they usually charged less than a dollar. That got me a cup to transfer the water and ice into the bladder much easier and I could do it at a table instead of at the fountain. While I was passing through Colorado this July temperatures ran as high as 115 degrees. I knew I was going to run into hot temperatures so prior to my trip I purchased a Ergodyne Chill-Its 6665 Evaporative Cooling Vest off of Amazon for less then $40. That proved to be a great investment and kept me cool and pretty comfortable for 3-4 hours at a time. Once it dried out, I'd stop at a filling station and re-soak in the washroom sink.
@mustachemoto
@mustachemoto 7 месяцев назад
@@rickyoung360Great idea on the cooling vest... living in Georgia, it won't do me much good here, but I would have made life much better in the 90+ weather out west on my last long trip.

Great video! I completed a 5200 mile trip this summer and like you, used the mesh seat cover. It was fantastic!! My choice of dry bag was a Moose Racing 40L which is inexpensive and it worked awesomely! Myself, I love a tank bag and did most of my charging with a dual outlet USB charger within that tank bag. I did choose to bring a battery bank to charge things at night so I wouldn't have a draw on the R1200GS battery at night. Great tips!!

I used to have similar boot covers - bought in the 90s but were made of rubber which deteriorated and became hard overtime in storage. The significant difference was mine were much longer up the boot - probably half way up the shin. Much better if pants slid up or stepped in a puddle as mentioned. Also handy to protect good shoes if you use your bike as a primary means of transport and going to a function.

Good short vid 👍 Regarding the seat cover...I've already came across a ton of waaaay different reviews and customer experiences, from which one thing is sure: it either works or not at all. Some praise it, many don't at all. No airflow, no heat dissipation, no water safe seat whats more the exact oppossite of it, several users reported they got more wet as it did hold up the water underneath and they were basicaly sitting in a "lake". TL&DR Don't expect superb experience, try it for yourself and see if it works for you or not.

Glad you liked the video! It has worked well for me. I wonder if weight has anything to do with how well it works. I’m only 125 pounds… maybe heavier people compress it too much? Who knows, but with as cheap as they are, that’s good advice to try and decide for yourself.

I do long trip too, may I add for navigation… get a cheap dedicated android rugged phone with a big battery capacity.. that way you can ride whole day without plugging it in to a usb outlet. No cables and waterproof. No sim card needed just pair it to your phone to go online, and you can have google map, waze.. and all other apps running. I even run relive on it.. to record and snapshot marker but do the final relive video on my main phone with photos in it.

My booties arrived today. I was worried they might not fit over my MX boots, but they totally do. I've taken the rubber off my pegs. Do I need to worry about the teeth on the pegs cutting the booties? Any hacks? Years ago, I went to Norway, to Nordkap, and it rained every day. I took to wearing plastic bags on my feet these booties would have been perfect. Also, I have a full face helmet, so can't use your cup holder, but I take oil in an aluminum drinks cannister and I might use your idea for that! Thank you. @@mustachemoto

My GS has metal foot pegs with no rubber. It starts to wear through in the arch after wearing them several times, but they haven't ripped and since that's on the bottom it doesn't let any water in. If your pegs are really sharp it might be a problem, but I figure I'll just replace mine every year or two if they get too worn.

How is the elastic holding up on your Danfeng mesh seat cover? I've had a different variant for about ~20K miles/2 years of high-altitude solar exposure/year-riding (when not garaged/covered), and the elastic's on it's last legs. (It's also heartwarming to become acquainted with yet another frugal rider ;) ... $80 plus S/H for more-mainstream seat covers just ain't gonna happen on my watch; too many mouths to feed & a cycle addiction to maintain :D)
@mustachemoto
@mustachemoto 9 месяцев назад
I've only had the seat cover for four months or so (but I've put about 13K miles on it). It's holding up fine for now. If it last two years, that's pretty decent for the price. You call me frugal, my wife calls me cheap! Either way, I'm all about saving money anywhere I can and I fully understand the motorcycle addiciton!

40l vs 60l? Is it worth it to go with 40l dufflebag with only short trips in mind, or would you recommend sticking to 60? I have old 650gs single cylinder.
@mustachemoto

Great question. If you pack light and/or won't be camping, the 40L would probably be enough. On the other hand, the 60L can be cinched down, so you don't have to fill it up on shorter trips. But... when there's space, I always tend to keep throwing things in, so the 40L would force me to not overpack. Keep watching and I'll keep posting!

If your feet get wet in waterproof boots, you should look at how you've secured the pant cuff around the boot. If it's loose and/or creeps up, water's going to get in over the top and wick down.

Great point. I've got extra long rain pants, so not a problem for me, but I noticed that on my riding buddy. He ended up buying a pair of waterproof gaiters and those work great for keeping the tops of his boots AND the bottoms of his pants dry. @@mustachemoto Falling usually happens in slippery conditions, when your boots can't have proper grip. So, having a pair of strap-on ice rampons, and a Motowinch, gives you greater chances to get back to riding.👍 Also, many riders may have back problems, or tendinitis, etc..., and anything that helps is a big asset.

Not indispensable if you group ride, but if you are on an alone trip I believe it's a must. Because you usually end up flipping the bike on loose terrain, mud, skiddy surface, where all lifting skills say goodbye. @@mustachemoto

Can you give an insight into the height difference after adding this seat cover? Also do we slip or slide on the seat during breaking?

Was considering the silicone boot covers, but these have one of (if not THE) highest failure rates of any similar product on Amazon.
@mustachemoto
@mustachemoto 9 месяцев назад
I've had great luck with them. After maybe 20 times wearing them I did have some small prick holes in the sole (the GSA foot pegs are pretty aggressive), but they still keep the water out and haven't torn. I'm sure they won't last forever, but for the price I'm very happy, even if I have to replace them once a year or so.

Sealskins would allow you to go through water crossings, and walk into water to check for your line, without getting your feet wet. My MX boots are mesh and my feet are still dry.

That's a good idea if I'm going to be doing a lot of crossings. I bought a pair to put on if my boots get soaked during a ride, .but my feet get way too hot and sweaty to wear them all the time.

I purchased the same seat cover, and I would not call it “Cheap” in price. It would not fit properly on my 2022 RT. When attempting to place the seat back on the bike, the seat cover’s velcro straps covered the metal bar under the seat and prevented the seat front locking down into place.
