I like the Hempcrete solution. Hemp can be grown almost anywhere. So the cost of shipping your materials can be minimized. If the materials can be sourced locally, then you're saving a lot in carbon costs and not depleting other areas of natural resources (like in the use of wood).

Yah but if your house starts on fire you're screwed. The fire dept will get high. 🤣🤣🤣 Seriously though, I agree with you. Hemp should have been utilized a long time ago. Has a great many uses.

@@anthonythorp7291 You are totally wrong with that. Obviously you did not watched the video correctly. They showed in the video Hemp and Hay walls are fire save. Walls filled with polystyrene is a terrifying idea. Polystyrene is extremely flammable and burns very fast. I manufactured polystyrene trays in a factory for years. static electricity would ignite the material if it was being used before the flammable gas used to create it had fully cured out of the rolls.

My preference would be fireproof panels wrapped around a timber frame. The frame can be cut in a factory as are the panels. The building consists of building an adaquate foundation then assembling the frame and cladding kit. The labor intensive part is installing the utilities. That too can be done in the factory. Ted Benson in New Hampshire manufactures these houses. Look them up.

Love these new building methods coming out of other countries. Sad to see our innovation in the USA seems to be a bit behind the rest of the world shown in these videos.
@AMERICANPATRIOT1945
@AMERICANPATRIOT1945 3 года назад
There are a number of innovative American companies and their products shown here. Americans are just used to seeing a majority of products coming from US manufacturers, especially in building products. That is more due to the size of the USA and differences in US building codes which have excluded foreign companies from US markets than to lesser innovation by other countries. It is high time for the USA to import innovative building products and techniques from other countries, and for other countries to import from the USA.

The last alternative looks good in the video but you know overtime straw loses moisture and its structure shrinks further thus exposing new dangers in structural integrity.
@thundercricket4634
@thundercricket4634 3 года назад
Not just that, but that thing HAS to be a massive fire hazard. A house-fire is never a good thing but there's pretty much 0 chance that ANY fire in that house wouldn't burn it right down to the foundation stones. Add on top of that if moisture ever DID somehow get into that straw, you just know that Mold would be inevitable.
@Fractal227
@Fractal227 3 года назад
@@thundercricket4634 What about the live fire demonstration where the straw had not catched fire even after 20 minutes? It had only blackened tremendiously. In europe it has a fire resistant grade of Class B which translates to "very limited".
@Fractal227
@Fractal227 3 года назад
How would that be a danger to structural integrity when you need to have a bearing frame? In Denmark we have plenty of houses with straw roof and these holds longer than the average human lifespan before they need to be replaced, just to give a durability to the elements aspect, and the isolating effects of straw lasts over 100 years if its properly installed and kept.
@amadine770
@amadine770 3 года назад
@@Fractal227 Now i need some correction here-are we talking about roofing here or the overall structure where straw is used to fill up the cavities that must bear the roofing.From what i know straw is inherently flammable even on its own(when bacteria infestation happens) and that besides harbouring rodents.Now factor in the moisture loss over time and rain or water seepage into the wall and the issue becomes profound-where is the safety in that and what is the cost of maintaining straw bales over the same period of time? How you do it in Denmark i do not know - to me it is not the safest.

You know, I have always thought it was funny that so many people think that just "replanting forests" will reduce atmospheric CO2, because that carbon will only stay stored until the trees die and rot, releasing all that carbon right back out. I've always thought that if you want to use plants to reduce CO2, then what we should start doing is cutting down forests, storing that wood as furniture, houses, and in bulk somewhere like Yucca mountain where it will not rot, and _then_ replant the forests. If you want that CO2 to stay locked up in plant matter, we need to start clear-cutting forests so that we can replant them, today!

The materials are fine. But when an owner decides to sell their property, how will the property be assessed?
@ScottyDMcom
@ScottyDMcom 3 года назад
@muttr, LOL. Good one. @Teddy, "accessed" = The means of approaching a place. E.g. The main access to a typical farmhouse is through the kitchen door. I think you want "assessed" = Evaluate or estimate the nature or quality of a thing. E.g. The real estate agent's assessment of the market value of your home. The real answer to your question lies in the building codes. if the county signed off on the design and construction of your home, then it's okay for anyone to live there as it's unlikely to fall down, flood (from plumbing), or catch fire (from electrical). Homophones, words that sound the same but are spelled differently, are the bane of English writers. I got serious about writing a couple of decades ago, and I'm fascinated by the weirdness built into English, such as homophones, irregular verbs, and grammar "rules" that don't actually exist. I usually do pretty well, but the most memorable time a homophone bit me in the ass was when I got "isle" and "aisle" mixed up. E.g. The father walked the bride down the isle. It took a Chinese guy with English as his second language to spot that one for me.

That must be a psychedelic experience on cold winter days with all of the windows closed and the heat turned up! The inventor of this one must have been the head of his/her class! lolololol! All kidding aside, pot was supposedly banned due to resentment from the paper monopoly for independent paper companies which used hemp fiber instead of wood pulp to make their paper, and therefore could not be controlled by the monopoly.

Yeah you should probably look up the difference between hemp and marijuana ;) And hemp is still produced at large all over the world, quite legally too since it's impossible to grow pot on these properties. Awesome properties and uses, not to mention the carbon capture.
