Thank you for your work and inspiration. Funnily i have just finished my staircase lights 2 days ago. Using full rgb, motions sensors at the top and bottom, and on top of that manual control over mqtt with a home assistant entity. This way i can pick any color in a solid effect or 1 of many prebuilt effects that would work well for a party, Christmas, new years eve etc. Oh and also brightness control when in manual control mode.
I have RU-vid Red and listen to long videos while driving with the SCREEN OFF mostly at 1.5 times speed (between 1.25 to 1.75 x speed always). I can toggle this easily on DESKTOP browser with mere single keyboard shortcuts using extensions like video speed controller/ global speed controller, etc. They even allow custom seconds of rewind and skip fwd hotkeys. In the Android RU-vid app, for me to just to REWIND back via app (default 10 sec), requires me the user to wake up screen and double tap left side of screen. I had tried enabling accessibility settings to insert an extra rewind / fastfwd button, but still need to unlock / wake up the phone and summon the app if not I'm the active window. I have tried "okay google' functionality: I will be getting an Xperia 1 iii soon with a built in dedicated google assistant button so that will help skip the brief delay (of the "okay Google" wake up trigger), but I still don't want to reach for the phone and say " .... rewind (*) seconds " every time. What do you suggest? Some sort of Bluetooth hand trigger / 'puck' with 2-4 buttons ? A mini Keyboard to hold in one hand? Volume button remapper for double-click up/down? Looking for fast predictable rewinding ideally without touching the phone, let's say I click the rewind button 4 times, I expect 40 second rewind (depending on what the default setting is 5 vs 10 vs 15 seconds) As a bonus, it be good if one of the buttons toggled the chosen example 1.5 x speed vs regular 1x speed , but that would likely work with browsers like kiwi browser which allow you to install chrome extensions like for desktop. However I personally would like to stick to the Android RU-vid app. If this has already been addressed by someone else / your prior projects, kindly direct me the way. Thank you.
That's a great automation! When I was a kid I put my laundry in the washer and it automatically washed, folded, and transported to my bed. My new washer and dryer though didn't seem to come with this function. Haha
Don't give up guys, stopped working for me when I was about 12 to. But now, at 34, it's working again and has been for about 10 years now. Weirdly tho, it always coincides with my gf getting angry at me and calling me lazy. No idea what's going on.
I have got to stop watching your videos, every single time I watch them, YOU COST ME MONEY!!! Thank you so much for this one, I've been looking for smart button alternatives and didn't know about the Broadlink buttons. I like home automation but have learned I still enjoy button pushing. Being able to turn on all the things you want to turn on at once by the press of just one button is amazing so thank you again for all that you do, keep up the great content sir!!
I’ve always liked that stair lighting automation, but I would want to fade them on and off so it is more smooth and less jarring. To each their own, though - it is still awesome
I’ve set up a couple of virtual switches in ST to help with the triggering of automations. GUESTS switch disables all of the time based stuff / motion sensor notifications/ turning off the outside lights if we have guests over (you remember guests). SCHOOL DAY toggles whether the bus reminders are run or not on a weekday; don’t need the audiovisual reminders during school holidays. CLOTHES ON LINE reminds me to bring in the laundry one hour before sunset / sends us notifications if the weather changes to rain and we need to save the clothes from getting wet again. I’m sure you guys have other FLAGS we should all be setting on out systems.
In 3:41 he also used moving stage lights to turn to red and a set to a specific shape by using DMX, I don't know how to integrate DMX to smart home but I like how he did that
I've been thinking about an automation since before it was a thing but I won't get to implement it till we move in 10 months: Bathroom light. Motion sensor + door sensor. Door open OR motion --> light on. Door close AND no motion in 5 seconds --> light off. No more turning on/off light in bathroom + super simple.
Just found this..thx for the tag on the fog machine portion. Your assumptions were on point. Working out that latency issues and will share more details on my RU-vid soon. Awesome video and details!
I'm Autistic and have to put in multiple Alexa reminders if I'm meeting a schedule, it's a nuisance and time consuming; I love that idea with the changing lights, I'm definitely going to copy that somehow, thanks.
Nice setups! Do you know any CO2 sensors, that can monitor CO2 levels in house? This so i can automate the setting on which the ventilator runs, or open the rolling shutters. preferably that also log it so you can monitor the levels?
Great stuff + your explanation of how it was done + your alternative approaches = best automation content. And nice supporting stars (kids). I've got a kitchen remodel in the future and just have to have the vac garage under the cabinets - thanks for highlighting the idea.
Great idea, Reed! I'll have to take videos of what we set up at the house we're currently building. I've got some pretty cool ideas for automations with addressable RGB strips (but am always looking for more). I pulled a ton of 16/4 wire for them before sheetrock went up.
I got my stairs light strip to fade in and not just switch on, though it's so far just code and I need to order the parts but at least the code is ready :D
Thanks for this video!! I had been looking for a good smart button that I could use to turn on my Ring Floodlights! The Broadlink switch works great with an Alexa routine!
And here I was impressed with my smart bulb that I set to VERY gradually ramp up the brightness when my morning alarm goes off which also gives me the time(I love the snooze button ok…leave me be ok🤷🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️😂)
I have a LED strip on my kitchen below the top cabinets to help you see better. This is running WLED so I can control it with node-red and together with my ShellyEM I change color and/or flash it red when I'm approaching or I'm beyond the power consumption I have from my grid so the general switch doesn't "blow up" (not sure the exact term for that in english)
Hello Reed, excellent video as always! I think you mentioned in one of your videos that you had a link to your automation spreadsheet ideas but I haven't been able to find it. Would you mind promoting me to it? so I can use it on my own house please. Thank you and keep up the good work.
Always informative, approachable and with humor. Awesome stuff, Reed! Hey, any idea how I can use a smart switch to trigger Wyze's own routines? I use a Wyze Bulb Color set to orange for my son's nightlight (his favorite color), but the orange preset on Alexa is basically yellow. At the moment I'm using the toggles in the app and my Wyze Band, but I need him to have a physical button
I've always been interested in the idea of creating/building and automating something but I have no idea on what to learn first like what type of courses would I need to take to learn and build stuff like this?
Wondering if you have ever used HAL home automated living. I had it several years ago and was hoping they would be bigger by now but never see it mentioned. It was so great even in the 90s. Wondering if you have any idea why
It will be so good if someone makes the sleep tracking smart watches/bands to control home after we fall asleep, idk why its not built-in its already tracking!
I tried setting up an automation like that for when my hockey team scored, but I couldn't get it to function properly, an definitely did not have the correct hardware. I tried using IFTTT paired with my nanoleafs to light up and flash by using the notification system from the NHL app when "my team scores". To my surprise, it worked, but it fired off every single time there was a goal for any team haha
I'm having hiccups with the toddler remote. Even if I specify ex: "play Bluey on disney plus" fire tv will bring me to the prime screen to purchase episodes instead. Also would be nice to be able to specify a season of TV. Starting on sesame street episode 1 freaked out my daughter!
I love the Toddler remote. I also bought it. Turns out it wont work on google assistant. You cant run routines without voice... im so disappointed! Love your video's! Keep it up!
I got the Broadlink 4 buttons a month ago and used Alexa to control my smart lights with it. But Alexa stopped triggering the routines a couple of days ago. Alexa can see the buttons pressed (sees them as sensors), but does not trigger. Searching for a solution, I ended up here. Aparetnly, you have employed the same solution. Have you noticed a problem with the buttons like me? Found any solutions? I couldn't find a good solution online... Thanks.
Maybe I could puzzle you wish a question? Followed you for a couple years now but don't think I've seen you cover this. I'm adding a ceiling fan to an area that has only 1 switch but I want to control the fan, light and speed of the fan. Have you found a way for this to happen at the fan as there is obviously only one power wire running up to the ceiling fan? BTW the fan is 2 stories up in vaulted ceiling.
Nr 3 doesnt always work. When i clean my ecovac i have to pick it up too (like the guy in the video has to) and weirdly enough by doing so and not positioning it EXACTLY the same, it tells me it lost its position and found a new map.
Love your videos and your always who I watch for anything I plan on doing in my apartment. Soo I need your help or anyone’s help really. Is there anyway to assign smart home devices to an IP!! I’ve tried IP binding in my router but they still won’t use the IP I’ve assigned In my routers settings. Please any help would be appreciated . -What I have- Google home Assistant TP Link AC4000 GE bulbs Home assistant on Vbox enbrighten smart plugs
Broadlink are great remotes! The bad thing is that little by little they start getting greedy like Phil * ps HUE. In the new application, routines for S1C and S2C are not supported. Don't they understand the logic that if they don't stop the maintenance of the old devices I will be satisfied. Which will make me buy more of their devices in the future for every room in my home. I also want to give them money for broadlink e-air expansion modules, I don't know why they don't take advantage of that. What are they waiting for ?!
My experience with the Broadlink Smart Button is that the hub wouldn't connect to my WiFi. I gave up trying after half an hour. Disappointed. Fortunately, Amazon makes returns of products like this very easy!
The Shelly button is the best there is. It integrates directly with Home Assistant, through the Shelly integration, or you can flash it with Tasmota, through a simple Over The Air process. And since it uses WiFi, you can directly hook it up to Home Assistant, without having to buy a separate zigbee coordinator.
@@user-xu2pi6vx7o At $25, I'm considering it. For about the same price, I can get the broadlink quad-button with hub. I do like that the Shelly is water resistant and rechargeable. Thanks for the recommendation!
