Old money families are basically more concerned with preserving traditions and imbibing their children with the same values. New money families are merely financially rich but not culturally.
It's the wheel of time. Old money started somewhere. So they themselves were once new money. The new money today, will be part of the old money in the next century. Then a new elite with entirely new ideas will be new money. The underlying principle here is MONEY.

The discretion of “old money families” is actually a need; these families lived apart from the rest of society and some colluded for centuries on how to preserve their privileged positions at the expense of the poor. On the matter of names for children : Sometimes a child will be given a first or middle name that is the surname of a prominent ancestor. America's famous president FDR Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the name Delano was the surname of an eminent ancestor. In my youth, knew someone who was called a name that did not sound to me a first name. it was decades later I learned the name was the last name of a prominent ancestor .
Not necessarily. When national epoc (Add, Kalevala) of Finland turned 100 years the state gave a chance for people with Swedish familyname to transfer to Finnish familyname free of charge. If translation didn't excisted or didn't make sence, a large number family names were made. My grand-father changed his familyname, he wasn't ashamed or he didn't had anything to hide. His mother tongue was Finnish and he didn't fell Swedish family name as "his own". (Partly) because of this, we have 30 000 different family names (all are not used but can be traced from chuch books).
@leas7830 I didn't mean to imply that all usages of other names aren't necessary. Because at one time people didn't have names and when they did they were usually clan names. I had 2 DNA tests done, and I have over a million kin around the world 🌎. Some of my kin have been in the USA since before the Mayflower. My Y-DNA test shows that I am Campbell. The first of my blood lines are Neanderthal from 40,000 years ago..
I get the comparisons but what about giving us more information on old money lifestyle habits and behaviors. Pop culture does a pretty good job of covering the new money people mentioned and personally I don't care to hear anything more about them.

Old Money vs New Money 1) Old money has nannies and never plays with their chilldren , while new money plays with their children 1/2 the times and still has a nanny 2) Vacation- Old money goes to old houses that have been in the family over 100 years with the nannies , while new money folks go to fancy hotels with their kids and the nannies 3) Social Media- Old money someone else answers their social media and puts general info there to keep the family private and uninvolved. New money- they put crazy stuff out there that do not make sense- yeah, I agree North West. Then you realize these new money folks are living crazy lives with a bunch of kids who will need a psychiatrist. And you also find out the parents are not good parents the way they say they are. 4) Education- The Old money kids go to schools where they live on the property. They also have security who live on the property with them. They only see their families (maybe) during vacation time. They also have to make appointments to see their parents. The New money kids get driven to the school daily by a driver and maybe a security person. They have someone who makes their lunch daily. They may see their parents for 5 or 10 minutes per day. 5) Career- Old money kids go into the family business, such as the Royal family. They go into the family business and are trained to be "good princes or good princesses" - unless they marry someone who is considered "common", and then they kick you out. The New money kids do nothing or they go into entertainment- singer, dancer, or porn. You know, something that will make them money. We will see what career North will choose. Thanks for the video. Actually, if you did enough research, her father comes from an old gentry family who are connected to aristocracy through marriage. Catherine’s ancestors were also landed aristocrats, that’s why she’s related to the Queen Mother. It was just that her mother’s family a few generations back fell on hard times, hence being once again dubbed as “new money”.
