I’ve always put Ty Tabor in the same group as Jerry Cantrell . Both are able to take seemingly simple riffs and create these mammoth songs (in my opinion anyway). Ty was another one of these guitarist that is just on a whole different plane than most. Great vid.

YES! Totally agree. Everyone has their preference for how a good riff sounds to me, and very few have the consistency I check for to win my loyalty. Jerry Cantrell, Ty Tabor, Tony Iomi, Kim Thaiyl, and the DeLeo brothers are in the top tier for me.

Ty and Doug's tone was phenomenal, melodically beautiful, really interesting parts, and the harmonising between all three of them just incredible! I remember listening to Dogman for the first time and it just blew my mind how awesome it was and still is....like super heavy bluesy groove oriented grunge. I also heard that Jerry Cantrell said something along the lines of whenever he was inspired to write a riff he'd listen to King's X...when you listen to Pleiades it sounds very 'Alice In Chains' but actually Alice In Chains sounds very 'Pleiades' - thats how inspiring they were to Jerry Cantrell, and also Mike Inez said Doug Pinnick is the most inspirational bassist for him. Allot of bands get called 'criminally underrated' but King's X truly are

Doug’s bass tone on the dog man album is what immediately blew me away especially on “pretend”, really completes their amazing sound.

@@eddieperez9565 I'd say it's mine too. Love the mix between the early sound and the darker Dogman era.

Ear Candy was so overlooked even by their own fans. I love the production on that album. It's so open. A lot of atmosphere and sonic space that just gets filled to the brim with every instrument and harmony. And the song "A Box" got me through some pretty tough times

@freddielee8500 1 day ago King’s X fan here for many years. I played in a band in the early ‘80s that rehearsed in an old building in downtown Joplin, Missouri and these guys practiced there as well. This was before they became King’s X. Called themselves The Edge back then. Thanks for featuring these great guys in your post. Class act all the way!

Love King's X! My biggest influence musically when I first started playing guitar, bass, and drums. I have so many memories from back in the day of driving around in my car listening to King's X . 🙌👍

Very nice! I just got into king's X and I really had similar thoughts you do. Actually I stumbled upon the L5 Amp and one day later upon king's x watching rick beatos channel and ended up learning it's love and some more stuff. Actually, I think that ty tabors solo stuff like freight train and Johnny guitar are a more modern Version of king's x. That's very cool too!

Glad to see the love, I discovered King's in the early 90's and was blown away by their songwriting. Even now after all these decades later when I listen to their songs I still get that sense of awe. And both Ty and Doug always have the most gorgeous sounds. My favorite band by far.

Grove Machine. From Tape Head. One of the greatest opening cuts ever next to Dogman. Anything from Please Come Home Mr Boulbous. The greatest melodic hard rock bands of all time. Not to mention all the Solo stuff all three of them did. Top notch.

That was wonderful, now subscribed. The opening of Gretchen, "Out of the Silent Planet" was and is the most extraordinary moment for me (great book too) and my first intro back in the late'80s. Live they are incredible. Glasgow Mayfair in '88, what a gig!

@@LeonTodd It was, the whole place was jumping. "Faith Hope and Love" had just been released so the set was albums 1-3. I remeber Ty had copious amounts of what looked like chalk dust on the nut of his red Strat Elite as the fine tuners were in the locking nut and could be tricky. He has the best vibrato and timing and great pick attack. I always thought he used a thick plectrum but on the Mr Bulbous your I scored one of his picks and it is just like a Dunlop 0.6mm. He hits the strings hard!
