This is from 94 and is an typical excellent King's X live performance. This footage is up on You tube already although I think this is a little better quality over all.
It baffles me when I play these guys for friends, no one gets it. In fact, I’ve met only one guy who loved them. They are the greatest secret in music. Should have been huge.
It's true that they are criminally underrated but I have a whole big group of friends that loves kingzack's guess what most of them are musicians. But even us non musicians get how awesome they are
I'm a big fan of Kings I dont get it either why they aren't more popular. My only theory is the lyrics are kind of unique and it throws people off. I dont know. The first four albums were their greatest releases in my opinion. I discovered them when I saw the video of Over My Head. It's really weird because I dont know another person personally who is a fan. They are the true definition of a cult band.
My college roommate introduced me to them back in the 90s, and I ended up buying Dogman and Tape Head. I listened to them from time to time, but wasn't a huge fan and didn't like any of their other albums. A couple decades later, though, they suddenly grew on me and I bought all of their albums. I pretty much like all of them now, although that Dogman/Ear Candy/Tape Head era is still my favorite (I understand it's the least favorite of most of their early fans, though). I think their music has to grow on you, and most people just don't give it a chance.
Ty is such a badass guitarist it doesnt matter he's on national tv dressed like a tourist at the jersey shore. That is how all powerful his guitar playing is
@jimboyer6440 unbelievable. I came here to say almost exactly what you did. Jerry is a machine, resting snugly in the bottom of the pocket. Also just a really cool guy when you meet him. Ty and dUg are awesome guys too. They are all badass and play their hearts out. Like a lot of other people, I just fucking can't believe they aren't more widely recognized.
I love reading the comments feed on any King's X video. Every comment reads something along the lines: "The band is so frikkin awesome!" "(Pick one: Ty, Jerry, Dug) is such a badass!" "Why aren't these guys in the Hall of Fame?" "Why aren't these guys world famous?" LOL - it is totally 100% Love from the fans to King's X
All three doing vocals, thick wall guitar sound, thump pounding drummer and a feel filling bass with a great soulful voice. All that in a three piece band.
@@YaoEspirito No, thats not the only reason. they all sing like birds and play like monsters.. He used a 4 string many times and still sounded huge. Are you jealous or something? Don't diminish greatness. Its always so... Diminished.
michael mattice Few months ago at work during a breaktime, guy asked me who I thought were great trios in rock. Told him my faves were Rush, Kings X and Blue Murder. He replied he never heard of Kings X or Blue Murder. But anyways, Kings X are amazing.
michael mattice Yeah it's Carmine on the first Blue Murder album and I also believe Cozy Powell did some work in the studio as well. Sadly, I don't think John Sykes( it was his band he started) has done much about the band in years. They should have been bigger and I think Blue Murder's debut album is one of the best ever besides Kings X debut.. Can't go wrong with Zep!:) Cheers.
King's X is simply one of THE greatsest bands to EVER come along period!! No one can touch them in terms of riffs, vocals, melody!! Some bands may have the riffs, but they don't have the harmonies...some may have the harmonies, but NOT the riffs...very underrated band!! Much Respect!!!!
im sorry i saw kings x back in 94 on that tour....and you couldnt get any tighter...one of the best bands live and underrated bands ever....their sound live was absolutely crushing...tone was unbelievable...and harmonies were perfect...
Great band. Heavy, melodic and amazing use of vocal harmonies. I hope to get the pleasure of seeing this band live someday. When people say this band is underrated, it's not overstated, it's the truth.
I remember MAX CAVELERA said he listened to this song and was blown away by the heavines of it. I know i was,the whole album was SO HEAVY LONG LIVE KINGS X
To anyone who came of age in the days of autotune; this is what a great live rock band sounds like. That is a truly great performance. Tight, intense and perfectly kick-ass in every way. I've seen these guys so many times, and they are always the same - their execution is top notch. That's the product of decades of grueling hard work, practice and perseverance.
One of my favorite moments in life was seeing them on 12-8-05 in Austin, TX. I was near the front of the stage. Mid set I yelled out “Dogman” only once. They nodded at each other and played “Dogman.” Great guys for doing that! My fav King’s X song!
Dang, King’s X rocked in the early 90’s. This sounds incredible. One of the best live music performances on a late night television show. Doug, Ty, and Jerry are at the top of their game, here.
No matter what the reason for the masses shunning these guys, KING'S X is a Mega Superstar band in the hearts and minds of ALL their dedicated fans!!!!!
Underrated band, I am a guitar player and love Ty but during their concerts it is amazing to see Gerry's playstyle, just one od my favorite drummers on the planet
I AM A DRUMMER AND THE BIGGEST RUSH FAN THERE IS BUT I HAVE RESPECT AND LISTEN TO EVERYTHING AND ONE OF MY FAVOURITE ALBUMS/CD'S IS FAITH HOPE LOVE !!! THIS BAND SHOULD AND WILL BE IN MUSIC HALL O FAME !!!!
I got turned on to King's X after reading an interview with Vernon Reid of Living Color (Who were HUGE at that time) and he couldn't say enough about how great King's X were. So I bought FH&L and was blown away.
This disc is still my go to all these years later. I refuse to throw the concert shirt out from this tour (though it quit fitting many years ago..) King's X has given us music that has made my time on this planet a more pleasant journey. I hope Jerry returns to full health so they can continue for many more years!
The most underrated band currently inhabiting this planet! Get "Gretchen Goes To Nebraska" YESTERDAY!!!! Then buy every other SCRAP of heavenly music they've made-your speakers will actually SMILE! Heavy metal Beatles is right! TOTAL EAR CANDY!
what's awesome about king's x is that they still bring it, show after show. I saw them a couple of years ago at the Crawfish Festival in Spring, TX. It was a goofy setup, they were way parked far off amongst the closed carnival rides, had to be a let down to them. But they still sounded like gold, incredilbe musicianship and creativity
I've heard several different versions of Kings X doing Dogman; this is now one of my favorites. I LOVE how the drums sound in this mix.... quite clicky which really brings out Jerry's amazing and massive groove.
The most underrated band in the land! I've seen these guys live, and met Dug several times! Amazing sounding band. It just goes to show that sometimes pure talent isn’t enough.
I saw these guys a LONG time ago in Pittsburgh at the Metropol.I was standing outside waiting and who walks by? Doug Pinnick! No one even knew who he was so I stopped him and he talked to me for a couple minutes. What a great guy what a great band.Top musicians and and great harmonies.I don't know what happened to them but then they were the best then. You just don't see bands like this anymore.Man were those guys good!
