I have a similar story from a WW2 book. A US squad was sent to pick up an Aussie coast watcher after 2 years in the wild. He asked for a jeep as after all this time he was "terribly knocked up." Later as he approached the jeep, a lieutenant, bewildered by the term "knocked up" took a look at his abdominal girth and exclaimed, "my God, it's true!" Translation: US- pregnant. Australian- extremely fatigued.

AS an American who sometimes becomes weary of some of the America bashing (even from other Americans) that I come into contact with as well as being someone who has lived some years in another country, I absolutely love these insightful observations and commentaries. They never cease being fair, non-judgemental, informative and humorous as well as frequently accompanied by even greater observations on human behaviors regardless of the country of origin along with helpful suggestions/advice. Indeed, when living in another country one of the most beneficial activities is to make a point of trying to fully engage in that culture. And having grown up in Indiana and studied in Chicago, I especially relate to your comments. Sorry my comments are running a bit long, but I thoroughly enjoy these commentaries.

Regarding Cadbury and chocolate in general: the US Cadbury actually contains more natural coco butter by law while in the UK more of the fats are added from other sources. As for Hersheys, it definitely has a different taste. That's because those in Europe who discovered how to successfully blend milk and chocolate kept the process close to the vest. That forced American producers to develop their own solution. The process Hersheys came up with resulted in the milk souring a bit, resulting in the characteristic flavor of its milk chocolate.

I’m American. My family has been in Virginia since about 1660. Most of my ancestors were from England. We knew that growing up, long before 23 and Me came along. I have a great great grandfather from Cornwall. Second, third, and fourth generation from the immigrant, and still proud of where we came from. I was on a trip to Greece and met an English couple. The guy was saying how he didn’t care if England stopped existing. I was appalled! I’m like: “No!” He said to me, “why, you want England to still exist?” I said; “Yes!! God!!! England is the mother land. I ALWAYS want England to exist.” Unimaginable So, Laurence, if you play your cards right, your great great grandchild will be proud of their British heritage. i'm yankee but i lived in the u.k. for 2 1/2 years. i'd have to confess i was somewhat the same way when i moved over to live with my english gf insofar as not becoming "anglicized / anglicised" but although my life over there didn't demand i make alot of changes (and my gf LOVED my "americaness" and didn't want it to change) sure enough after a while it was a 'CAR PARK', not a 'PARKING LOT', a 'TROLLEY' not a 'CART', 'COURGETTE', not 'ZUCCHINI', a 'PITCH' not a 'FIELD', etc. etc. etc. even when hanging with other yankee ex-pats you still find yerself using the british terms because not only do you hear them all the time but it just simply makes things easier in the long run and it's less confusing not having to flip back and forth. oddly enough, though, when i returned once to the states to visit and then when i went back to stay i "reverted" to americanisms immediately without even having to think about it and even though i did start using british terms everybody said my accent itself never changed so i suppose it's all down to the individual how much they will or will not change when they move to a new country.

Because trust me it would be much easier to topple a dictator when the people are armed. I am not anti-gun (I grew up hunting what I ate), but 'Second Amendment Lifestyle' makes me EXTREMELY uncomfortable. Why? Well, because it totally ignores that fact that while America has a mass shooting pretty much weekly, people in other countries with sensible gun ownership laws face only a fraction of a fraction of the possibility that they'll be shot just because they needed construction paper from friggin' Target for their kid's class project. Let me further point out that when gun owners complain about the possibilities of those laws, they look just like the nutcases shooting up movie theaters and malls. You're worried about Trump? Good. Vote in every election, get your friends and family to vote in every election (local is important, too!) and vote blue no matter who in 2020. E.Michael Jones says it best when he says up until the 1960's people in America largely group identified by their ancestors country of immigrance, not by race, up pops the race baiters of the ADL/SPLC and modern day America feels like it is in the middle of a soft civil war.

I can eat Hershey's milk chocolate but I can't have dark chocolate and I miss it. If you know anyone who has a really severe gluten allergy they can't have the dark chocolate either. Not sure why I just know that I get really sick when I eat it and react badly. to make it worse now that I'm pregnant the reaction is twice what it used to be so I definitely know when I accidentally run into gluten. You'd be surprised how many companies use wheat flour as a filler. So even though you think you're eating a better version of the dark chocolate there's a lot more filler than you realize... which is weird cuz based on taste you would definitely think the milk chocolate Hershey's has filler in it in the dark doesn't. also the reason Hershey's chocolate isn't great is cuz they sell all the cocoa butter out of the chocolate to cosmetic companies, the percentage that gets left behind is a very low compared to other countries. Which is why even white chocolate anywhere but the United States tastes better than it does in the US. ( and I'm not a white chocolate fan )

Car park lol, sometimes still slips out of my mouth after almost 50 years away from the UK. Some words I dropped immediately, like "petrol". Others come out messed up hybrid, like 'tomaaaah-ate-oh." A few of them just won't go, like Ok YOU LOT, get your SWIMMING COSTUMES on, where's my dressing gown and does anyone have a plaster?

Lived in the US, deep south, my entire life. You mean to tell me you lot is something I've adopted from British people and never knew? 😂

@@christopheryoung826 omg. There's so many things they say in the southern US that I thought were just restricted to the UK. Shocking!

You CAN very much have a SWIMMING POOL. Just do it in a warmer state. It's the upkeep that's a. n̶i̶g̶h̶t̶m̶a̶r̶e̶ pain.
