I just watched Young Justice for the first time ever over the last month, and man, I am so so excited to see a flourishing DC Universe on screen. James Gunn is such a strong and effective creative voice, and his body of work tells me he’s the perfect person for the job. He knows that the lesser known characters should be treated with as much love as the heavy hitters (case and point: Jimmy Olsen will be in Superman: Legacy). Peter Safran seems like a solid producer too, so they’ll make a dynamic duo.
Man I really want this universe to work out. I never understand the hate that people are giving James Gunn and Peter Safran when their universe hasn't even started, I feel like their hate might make it a self-fulfilling prophecy when it comes to them giving Superman Legacy box office numbers. I just really hope S:L Does insane numbers and this universe can go smoothly into existence.
Even as someone who's a long time Snyder fan, I'm rooting for Gunn & Safran's DCU to succeed. I'm a DC fan first and foremost and just want great movies & shows. I'm hoping Gunn knocks it out the park with Superman Legacy. So much great potential with the DCU and I want to see them flourish.
Won't do insane numbers, people aren't showing up in droves for any dc movie atp due to DC's live reputation. if it even does well, that's good enough. After a couple good dc movies you can start to hope for insane numbers.
I've always loved DC somewhat more than Marvel and I want this new universe to work. I want a world on screen that feels fleshed out and has comic book sensibilities. WBD can't screw it up like the old regime did and expect a billion out of the gate. If Superman Legacy gets 600 million at most on a 150 million budget or even a bit lower that needs to be considered a win imo and build off of it.
I was more interested in DC than Marvel when it comes to comics, characters and stories as a kid. The concept of "gods trying to be people" was just more intresting to me than "people trying to be gods". The movies (or more specifically the cinematic universes) were the opposite though, due to not utilising their characters and concepts as well as they could have, whilst Marvel (at the time) was.
Also I hope they keep it DC. Marvel-i-fying the previous DCU kept it from reaching peaks it could've reached easily. It was simple really. Every JL member gets their own movie with the trinity maybe getting 2 or a trilogy. Batman and Superman meet. I kinda like "The closer look" take on Batman vs Superman, named Batman and Superman by him. (He's a RU-vidr) Then they could ease into things more with a movie or 2 with the eventual JL movie bringing in our final member as well as the first big bad to beat all bads. The one who can end it all. The villain that'll Jumpstart the actual beginning for the universe arrives and the team is fully formed. Honestly I'd prefer the on-screen JL to do the passing od the torch to the new JL that Nightwing leads in the comics. That wouldn't happen yet ofcĥ
@@user-chillvill Idk about that. They didn't utilise the characterisation in a way I think they should've. If I see Superman, for example, I should see and feel that he's just a sweet guy who is just doing what he can to help out. The whole point is he's basically a god that doesn't see himself as one, so the constant Jesus parallels and mischaracterisation and stuff in Snyder's work just kinda puts me off. If you found value in it though, that's in no way me disregarding that. I'm actually happy someone found it was enjoyable.
My favorite of these points is the focus on character. Gunn has a way of displaying a character’s vulnerabilities and showing us all of their warts, yet still making us love them. Peacemaker was quite the emotional journey, and that scene where Peacemaker plays the piano just has so much heart. I would love to be moved by the characters, because I think that if we believe in the characters and we invest in the characters, we willingly follow them through the plot and are more transported by the story. At least that’s the cinematic experience I want! Thanks for the bonus video to get us ready for a whole bunch of DCU announcements to hopefully come in the following days!
There’s a moment in Peacemaker where Steve Agee’s character has to basically lay all his insecurities bare regarding why he dyes his beard and the way Gunn took a silly gag about dying your beard and turned it into this heartbreaking speech that you see genuinely makes Peacemaker understand that he’s been an asshole.. I’m excited to see what he can do with characters I already care about if that’s how he handles tertiary characters I’ve only known for 5 episodes.
1. The main difference should being true & authenic to the nature of the characters, who they are, & what they stand for. 2. Story - Write great & interesting scripts. Take your time, dont rush. It is a interconnected universe, so of course put Easter eggs in movies & you can even do mid & post credit scenes filled with Easter eggs.
With how much Marvel is stumbling lately, DC could have a chance to not be always the butt of the joke when it comes to this type of genre entertainment again... but I don't know if DC executives can get out of their own way, even with James Gunn at the head
In an analogy, DC basically tripped at the starting line and then ran pretty consistently after, whereas marvel started off slow, gained a lot of momentum, won the race, and then absolutely face planted just after reaching the finish line(Endgame)@@firstlast9846
@@RyanG0899i actually think a lot of mcu fans will start to watch the dcu projects because of gunn himself, they love him and probably if the mcu keeps doing trash projects they are gonna to watch something better
People that try to claim James Gunn is ruining DC are hilarious. We actually have a chance at a good cinematic universe. The last one was a train wreck. Zack Snyder made all the worst choices at the start of the universe so it ruined any potential for those movies.
For the first time in a long time I actually have hope for DC, I did not like the DCEU one bit because of it's sloppy handling of the charachters. I love Dc's heroes as much as marvel and I've hated that I could'nt get excited for their movies. I don't want a case where one is doing better than the other either I want them both to be firing on all cylinders giving us banger after banger nonstop. But when Gunn came aboard be bascially addressed all my issues with that fairly quickly. I know Gunn can deliver a good superhero movie so I'm confident in Superman being handled well and is pretty much doing as hard of a reboot as he can announce right now.
Batman was a retired vigilante that had a whole history but no one's ever heard of him or seen of him.... One of the many ways you could tell that Zack Snyder had no clue what he was doing!!
Batman is a myth, urban legend, cape crusader, dark knight. Should be that way always. Love the idea of Batman being a myth and only criminals know he exist alongside a few cops. He shouldn't be seen he moves like a ninja because he is trained by them. Having everyone know him would surpress that horror vigilante presence about him. Should be a legend that people tell each other and kids talk about trying to figure if he is real or not. Hope James Gunn does this for his DCU Batman.
DCEU in a nutshell: MoS: “Zod is going to laser this family… he has to die.” BvS: “Lex is going to murder my mom… Batman has to die.” Justice League: “You won’t let me live… you won’t let me die.” Black Adam 2, probably: “Black Adam is too dangerous for this world… he has to die.” The Flash: “Kal-El contains the DNA of all Kryptonians… the infant did not survive.” All James Gunn has to do is AVOID DOING ANY OF THIS AGAIN & it’s already 10x better than what we got
Zack Snyder DID start off with full creative control in the beginning of the DCEU, (Christopher Nolan hated the Zod neck snap in MOS), then WB started to strip away those rights once the Razzie nominations came in along with mostly bad reviews & poor box office earnings in comparison to the MCU at the time (Capt. America Civil War).
COMPLETELY INCORRECT.... Nolan, on seeing the script, was against Superman killing ANYONE. Goyer sat with Nolan and told him about the family about to die by Zod incinerating them with his heat vision and Superman struggling to stop him. Goyer explained to Nolan that Zod would never stop killing. Suoerman has him in a headlock trying to turn Zod's head away from the family, screaming for him to stop..Zod says never. There was no choice. The original script had Zod just being sucked into the phantom zone. Chris said, after having been shown how it plays out, said "now i buy it." And the fantasy that it DIDN'T succeed at the box office.... it made over $600 million and that didn't include merchandising. The problem was that the WB thought it should've made more and were in a hurry to get to the Justice League to compete with Marvel's Avengers.
David zaslav better stay the fuck away from dc. I have 100% confidence in james gunn and peter safran. I know he said dc studios is separate. They just got rid james gunns looney tunes movie with john cena which obviously isnt a dc movie but still. Fingers crossed they just get great filmmakers to amazing movies.
When it comes to the Lanturns show, it's totally possible to write it so that it stays important to the overall story, but not necessarily a "requirement" for casual audiences to completely understand the DCU's entire plot. It can just be available for us to watch & enjoy as an option.
I can’t wait for the new DC Universe, I hope it succeeds as I have faith in James Gunn and Peter Safran. But I also hope, the DC fandom unites again and supports it since the fan base is split right now
STORY AND CHARACTERS MATTER! All of the great films of the last century started with this and if you don’t maintain that in any media (animation through movies) then you’re just wasting cash. I want to see big-paycheck executives who don’t subscribe to this philosophy kicked out of the studios.
20:15 Nicole Pearlman wrote Guardians of the Galaxy 1. Out of every Marvel director... James Gunn landed the film where Thanos appeared in his first speaking role in a post 2012 Avengers environment. Literally anyone who directed GOTG1 would benefit from Thanos being in it.
honestly the main issue ive had with this new universe is that last point, with the trying to prop up new or relatively unheard of characters, i get its important but i feel like it should be saved for like... a phase 2 or 3 movie, not one of the fundamental pillars of the universe
fucking hyped for the DCU , i can tell when a master is at work , i loved snyders work but i hope JG can salvage some parts of it ( story wise ) and tie it all up in the future plus if he plans on letting elseworld movies to come out like matt reeves batman universe , i hope they can use those kind of movies as fillers for unique movies that can be licensed out to netflix and max at the same time
The tides can turn really quickly and I think DC has once again missed with their timing. They struggled to try and catch up to Marvel with an interconnected superhero universe, fumbling the execution when they changed plans after MOS. Now, 10 years have passed and with how Marvel are struggling with the confines of the MCU and their constantly changing plans, the over-saturation of their content etc.... I just wonder if the appetite for a connected universe across TV and movies has waned. I think Superman Legacy has a decent chance of success as it will feel fresh (hopefully), but beyond that, I’m very skeptical of this working out for DC in the long-run.
I have high hopes for James Gunn's shot at DC. That said, there are a few picks that read to me like Gunn making the shows/movies he thinks no one would ever pick to make and he's taking this shot, even if it fails, just to have them exist.
DCEU could have Created a corresponding Chronological order Zack Synder Universe in 2009 with the Beginning and an End, by maybe starting with in 2009 Dark Knight, 2010 Batman 2, 2011 Hal Jordan's Green Lantern, 2012 Man of Steel, 2013 WW1, 2014 Batman vs Superman: dawn of Justice, 2015 Aquaman, 2016 Suicide Squad, 2017 Shazam 1, 2018 Zack Snyder's Justice League, 2019 Birds of Prey, 2020 WW84, 2021 Flash, 2022 Shazam gods of Fury with also no JSA joining offer in the ending Credits, 2023 Black Adam with no Superman in ending credits since it was JSA Era that time, 2023 Aquaman 2 and Ending the Universe in 2024 with the Justice League 2 vs Darksied with Martian Manhunter and Hal Jordan edition. Almost similar thing to Marvel but in 2025 James Gunn introducing his New Universe with Suicide Squad 2 that also features Peacemaker without creating another Superman movie or any another JL Movie but a new verse of interesting Unknown DCEU Heroes like Swamp thing, Authority .etc.
The DCEU ultimate downfall was the fact that they let Zack Snyder take the steering wheel. He's very much a person of style over substance... and you could see this with the fact that there was no real path but seeming to only focus on what they think would be cool on screen...
@optimusrexprime3087 And yet... you have a Batman with a long history and has retired, yet very few people have ever heard of him... You have a Martian Manhunter that sat out two World destroying events and thought the best use of his powers was to pretend he was Martha... If the first two movies and the Snyder cut of Justice League were any inclination of the direction he was going, then we've dodged the complete trainwreck!
Nah. The end started when they brought Joss Whedon in to “finish” the movie instead of letting Zack Snyder deal with a personal tragedy. Or they could have at least let Zack Snyder’s team finish.
@christownsend7552 The end started at the beginning... It started with a bad Foundation (emo Superman who is being taught the value of Life by a father that told him "maybe you should let them die to protect yourself"). Then lead into a nonsensical continuation... a long career Batman who very few know about and is a basic stranger... then finalized with style over story.
I'm looking forward to what Gunn has in mind. I do think using the actors to do voice over may bite him because not all actors are good at that. I do trust James to tell a better story than Snyder. True there was studio interference but Snyder tends to focus more on visuals than a coherent story. Even though Marvel was popular, Guardians was not,yet Gunn was able to make an audience care about those d list characters. I'm not worried about him messing up Superman because even if the film doesn't work,I don't think it breaks the universe. Batman is the one he needs to hit. Batman has been a proven money maker time and time again and if that bombs then I would worry about the DCU. The fact that he is keeping the Flash director on for Batman does concern me but I'm looking forward to better things from DC. The course needed correcting.
Could someone try asks Gunn what his plans are for a Batman suit I feel a less armoured and more fantastical would be perfect for this new universe. I feel the perfect suit for batman would literally just be a Arkham city suit 🙏
I hope there's a big noticeable difference I can't take another DC failed phasing I believe in gunn and am content to be patient for a new universe to flourish hopefully the head execs don't try to force their views onto gunn another awesome vid mate
Ok so I have a weird thought. What if when the elseworld title is playing in the various unaffiliated shows and movies, DC adds a small number below the logo denoting the universe. It wouldn’t be talked about in any of these films but would be a great way, down the road, of easily identifying which universe is being talked about. Certain characters could mention other universes offhandedly and we could observe the multiverse taking shape in a way that the public can simply understand.
I feel we should let James Gunn cook untill superman legacy and batman the brave and the bold are out before going too hard him. Gun has very solid CV wit guardians and the suicide squad
ill speak for me so...i dont care how good or many oscars worthy were to be any of the movies GUNN makes i wont support his DC or any of his despisable projects like pissmaker...sure illl see them when i can stream or dld them for free but never will i write a vowel or spent a cent in support of this damned person...and btw you very GUNN supportive.
Hey Boba, I recently saw on another channel that according to variety, The Batman 2 has been pushed back to March 2026!? I haven't been able to find this confirmed anywhere else as everywhere I have checked still has October 2025 as the release date. So, I was just curious if you've heard about this too.
Feige is smart but working with Disney made the marvel projects so lame lately because Disney like to throw many cringe jokes with some woke stuff without any emotions and just make people only have fun like as if they're watching Fast and Furious and not a strong and powerful comic movie.
Gunn has a chance to come out strong and take over the super hearo screen now that Disneylands crappy ride they call the MCU is sputtering out of control
Meh! I can take it or leave it. Thanks to WB's lack of direction and constantly sabotaging Zak Snyders' efforts and firing Henry Cavill, I've sort of lost interest.
I don't think any MAJOR plot points should be introduced within the TV Shows. Sure, it's fine for us because we watch it, but the average movie-goer won't really wanna do any homework to know what's going on.
They didn't give him time but I'm enthusiastic about this dcu I just hope they do titans, batman and superman well and totally agree with you about the snyder verse
I have zero interest in anything James Gun is doing with DC. I barely liked the first Guardians, hated the other two. Bright Burn was excellent for what it was.
In 2011, 2 year before Man of Steel came out ....WB asked Zack "do they have to be called the Kents? Can it be Jackson? Can't they be from Chicago?" They forced Snyder to do BVS when he wanted to make Man Of Steel 2. For people who claim they love DC... when they blame everything on Snyder they are literally protecting the executives who caused all this mess in the first place. But "rEaL dC fAnS" though right? 🤣🤡
If you think bobatalks that Gunn isn’t using dceu characters and just at the most doing a soft reboot cause they aren’t allowed to pay the Snyder actors no matter how much you say no one wants it but zsjl release re invigorated the want for the actors and characters we were introduced to , the cooking ur talking about sort of happened, the zsjl released really sort of set things on a path back what it was suppose to be , a free pass of content f ups after he left in 2016 , that movie is the best blue print anyone could of used that movie and continuity with the coming and future films after that came out, the rock really stuck his big nose in too much too late and de railed a lot, all this darker or too dark bs is funny to hear after the Batman aka so dark I couldn’t even see it but the story is so badly paced and anti climactic when you have Ben who is Batman on the screen while Pattinson is completely whining he has to bulk up for the sequel
Are you really going to redo doomsday and darkseid and crisis and flashpoint and suicide squad and death of Robin all within 10 years of the last iterations?
DC has a real opportunity to capture the superhero market. The MCU is in the toilet - but I think Feige will eventually adjust his strategy and turn it around. They should get it before that happens.
@@jameshurcombe2049Maybe. Brave and the Bold has a good shot at being successful. But, if Superman: Legacy is a hit, that will want back some good will from their audience. If they pump out good movies and shows, it’ll only improve audience interest.
I'm ok with diversity but just I'm tired of the sex changing characters or race-swapping them. Keep them the same cause DC has a lot of characters they can use that has a lot of different sexes and races and aliens as well. Lanterns are alot of different species. So I really hope this works out
