5-Minute Garage Declutter - Day 24 - 30 Day Declutter Challenge 

I have never stuck to and been engaged with any series on RU-vid this long. That in itself is a testament to how helpful this has been for me. Pattern established and maintained. Yay me!

This month long declutter has been a game changer for me. Breaking it up in little 5 min increments makes it so much more manageable. I work from home so I can do these during my lunch hour or after work. I keep forgetting to take pics but I feel so better in certain areas of the house already. I need more time in my basement and a couple other rooms but my kitchen cabinets are looking so much better and I am not procrastinating as much on those hot spot areas. I need to do this a few times a year! At least spring and fall time are a must. Thanks so much! I have told all my friends about it as well.

Oh my word, the recycle bin stories have me roaring! I’m 53 and that’s so something I’d do if we had a bin 🤦‍♀️🤣🤣🤣 I’m getting ready to start but I’ve a cushioned seat with drawers on wheels to move myself about the garage. I use it for car detailing. It’s fun 🤩 💚💚💚

I am so going to miss these daily check ins with you. I have been decluttering for 25 years so not much left to go. It is still my passion.

This month has been the best! It has changed not only how I look at decluttering but how I feel in general! My family finally noticed and asked me if there was something wrong. Lol

My garage needed more than 5 minutes, so I cleaned the garage for 8-10 hours on Saturday, Sept. 21st, during the all day declutter session with Cas, Dawn and Dana. I listened to all of their declutter sessions while I worked in the garage. My recycling can is full to the top. My trash can is also filled to the top with an additional pile of trash and bags waiting in my garage for trash day pickup. My cans are usually about 25% full every. They are never full. On Monday my daughter and I hauled items from the garage to a thrift shop and took all the metal to the recycling center. Cas, I did your grab a bag and purge session all day. I am happy with the results. Even with all that effort I still found five things today to get rid of. Thanks Cas for the motivation and also to Dana and Dawn.

First time today as I’m going through a container and when I found something that belonged in the laundry room, I walked it to the laundry room instead of just making a pile, then thinking about after decluttering, oh better put that way or worse leave it in a pile l just made 😂 Thank you so much Cass for motivating us to declutter and making the process so enjoyable and not overwhelming at all. 🥰

Think I'll try "recycling " this 5 minute declutter each month for awhile. Loved it!!! Worked for me (the value of 5 minutes was shocking).

Last 3 days....craft supplies, storage areas, garage. I'm in an apt., so I don't have a garage, but UMMM...we do have a mud room. In said mud room, there are? You guessed it....craft supplies, storage, and just plain junk. Happy to say in the past 3 days, I've decluttered 40+items from that room, and squeal...it looks SO much better!!! I love these small goals that yield big results!! Many thanks again to you, Cas!!! I wish this would never end! Lol. Hope I'm disciplined enough now to continue daily on my own.

I am STILL up to date! Yay!

It would be great if this series could have a part two or one for the whole year. Could keep us motivated and ahead of things.

I’ve been doing all these challenges. It’s a bit hard cause I am cleaning while working on it 😅. I was feeling defeated until my husband said “imagine if we had a garage”, and I felt soooo much better

I think last month we did a big big overhaul on my hut and my both garages because I have a garage department upstairs and we re-leveled the apartment so that made us take everything out re-organize get rid of and revamp it and it is so lovely room to walk. There was no room to walk in there room to walk. Everything is in shelves. I just totally love it now I need to go back in and go through a few boxes that I saved and let me see what I can per down, but I totally love it and we did this as a family my husband, my two sons I have three sons but one couldn’t do it. He works a lot, but it was really great and believe me we still have a little bit more work to do, but we’ve been pacing ourselves.

We need to do a 5 minute declutter in our basement several times a day! Lol When we moved, our garage and basement merged into one large space. We have it sectioned off for organization aaaaand each section is a hot mess! Last year, we redid our home gym section, and we still have old equipment to get rid of. We need to tidy up our fishing and camping section; sell a kayak; get rid of furniture that I never flipped, tidy up our tool section, and throw out old paint and boxes, and donate blankets to the pet shelter. Yeah. There is so much to do, but I have a plan now!!! 🎉😂

I kid you not I hired help to declutter my garage today! Getting pumped up with this video❤. Hearing you go through the process out loud is so helpful and this challenge month idea has been the best!!!!!

I drove home from work and noticed the pile of things in my console. All of it was rubbish (trash) so I collected it all and threw it in the bin on my way in. That's tomorrow's done today, so another area will be chosen tomorrow. I think doing it in small bites really works for me!

I did my garage a couple weeks ago so I focused on my office today. I was just overcome by dust and books I needed to donate. I got rid of so much stuff and it’s much cleaner. I love this challenge. I may not do the same stuff on your list but I do something every day. Life changing stuff here. Okay, back to work now.

I don't even have a garage but i love watching your excitement about cleaning. I also have gained a little weight back after VSG and my goodness Im a Bee/Bug, i think we are soul sisters. LOL I once was attacked while i was putting together my IKEA bed.... ya, was all alone.

I don’t have a garage, but my son cleaned out the shed a few weeks ago. This time I let him toss anything he wanted. Got rid of over 100 items and it’s now clean and organized. Lots of stuff going to hazardous waste collection this Saturday.

Just found this series....I'm interested in starting from day one! I've been very ill, in hospital twice in 6 weeks, and recuperating has been hard. Starting to feel better and am motivated to simplify my home.

We have hazardous waste pickup on Saturday, so this was perfect. Our box of 10 items is boxed and ready for Saturday. Next week we are doing our annual, get the garage ready to park back in there before the white shit comes. I also got 2 huge hoses roller up into the trash, which comes tomorrow

I’ve enjoyed these 5 minute decluttering sessions It’s made it fun for me and I realized that I’m going to get rid of 150 items in 30 days !😳 So I decided next month I’m going to increase it to 10 minutes and do 10 items and get 300 cluttering items out of my home ! Thank You Cass for showing me and motivating me to do this and making my decluttering muscles 💪🏽 stronger!

Put that siding in the attic! Whenever you do need it, chances are, they’ll be making the size slightly smaller or larger, causing you to have to redo the entire area. Exterior or interior. That goes for tile & floor coverings… if you like yours, that is.

I admit I just sat and watched this - but I already have a pile of stuff in the garage that is leaving the house hopefully this weekend. Some things are going to our daughter and the rest goes to donations. 35+ items. :)

Yay! No garage, do I did the car! I have never ever used anything in the glove compartment! It’s incredible what was in there! And the storage pockets in the mouse hole! Put away the summer stuff, put in the scrappers, so I’m ready for the first frost!

Regarding the recycle bin, I sit whenever I can. The boxes could have been flattened inside the house and carried out to the can. Or she could do ad I do and put loose recyclables inside the box. Finally, I use the large boxes for donations because I don't need the box anyway. I do watch these videos passively because my health is really bad right now. I'm going to print out the pages and save them for the future when I'm feeling better.

The second hand stores like receiving reusable shopping bags they use them my local st Vinnie uses to put purchased items in and my local good will sells them .. I think day cares might like them to send kids art projects or clothing goes home. Sweater or coat as weather warms up throughout the day.

A few videos ago you asked your viewers about being rule followers or breakers. My 1st reaction was: yeah, I'm pretty much a circus monkey, pay me enough & I'll do most anything legal, probably a few illegal things too. In regular life outside a job? Really depends on so many things -- leaning heavy toward rule breaker in most everything else. I couldn't even follow your 30 day challenge rules -- almost every day I've spent doing a different area than on your menu. Crafts? Nope I'm doing attic. 5 mins on the shed, no, I'm doing 2 hours yesterday & today.

Okay i thought I could skip this one 😂 as don't have a garage (or shed) but I do have an outdoor space, so I'll now be able to do this one 🙂

When I don't have a basement or garage.... I pick a doom closet 😅 definitely equivalent to the random things you find in both of those places lol 😆

No garage to declutter, but going back into the room that is clothes closet and craft room and go back in. Meantime a trash bag of clothes to be donated later this morning.

Future reference, just use the reusable bags to take donations instead of tossing it into the garbage. If you’re taking donations anyways at least try to let them get more use out of them. Reusable bags only make a difference if they’re used more than regular plastic bags. I’ve gotten rid of several reusable bags this way lol. Or they’re good to donate to places that give out stuff to people in need.

I found 5 things for the trash and recycle bin that I will toss after I get dressed. Aha! That was easy.

Don't throw out reusable fabric bags! They rip eventually and you need replacements. Then they go in textile recycling or fabric recycling. Make a pile in the garage or kitchen or a closet to keep extras.

Ok Cass I did it. Just for the time your video ran and then I reached for that one item. It was just a minute more and a minute or two to clean up and wash my hands. I let go of our precious dog's ( he passed January 2 nd 2020 dog bed and pillow and penguin 🐧. I can give it to a dog shelter perhaps. I just couldn't part with it then. I may have just been ready to declutter this way. You surely do help with your way of doing it. Thank you.

I don't have a garage but I do have a shed where I put ...well everything.... The donation boxes I gathered in this decluttering month included. It has to be decluttered and reorganised and I have been saying this since last Christmas....... But this is going to take 5 minutes x 100 😂. I urgently need to plan a day to drive to the second hand store with a chock full car. Owwwww your poor gran! Is that the same grandma of the shitty purse story😅?

Like others, I have found that I can pick up a few things and just a few seconds and throw them away or set them over in a donation box, etc. I need to find out when the animal shelter is open so I can take them this big pile of blankets, sheets, etc. I don't think they are open when I get off work at 4:30. They are open on Saturdays. I can take those things to my car and put them in the trunk they will be out of my house. 😊

Now I wonder what an US-American recycling bin looks like. So, I don't have a garage. But there is this landing in front of my apartment door where I stacked 7 boxes with books that I decluttered. So I spend those 5 minutes writing an E-mail to a non-profit organisation that collects books and resells them for . Does that count?

I am here Day 24 we have a garage BUT it is stuffed full of things that my daughter and son in law brought when they moved in with my mom and I. Not my things will NOT touch it. I have got rid of more stuff to throw away and 7 things to donate!

Outside space? I threw out 2 ferns that were dead the other day. No garage, no shed. I can go back to my basement. I did yesterday's declutter this morning. 6 pieces of material: sheets, a small piece of a blanket, etc. I have more for todays declutter in the basement.

Thrift stores can use the reusable bags

We have a shed but that’s my husband’s space so I don’t have a key. However he has gotten rid of so many tools it’s amazing. I’ll get him to take a pic for me so I can put it up. I’ll also tell him to include trash and any recycling when he goes out there today.

Oh my gosh, I am one of THOSE grandmas that got stuck in the recycling bin, I no longer own one, I just fill a box with the cardboard, it is safer!

I tend to find 5 things that need to go to another room in the house (where there isn't room). Downsizing is so hard! I am still trying to fit into this space which is less than 1/2 of my last house (which was 1/4 the one before that).

I mentioned yesterday that the garage is my hubbies space so I can’t declutter it since he’s the one who organized it and puts things there. He also has half set up for cutting the flooring that he’s replacing upstairs so I’m not even going in there lol. I did take 3 boxes out yesterday that belong to my cousin who’s house I’m going to later today so I think that counts 😂

Our garage (we can't park in it because it's not wide enough) is just storage and not my domain because everything out there is my husband's, so I don't have to touch the garage and shed.

Your story at the end was kind of horrifying. Your poor grandmother! I can't imagine the amount of panic I would feel to be stuck in a recycling bin for a few minutes, let alone a few hours.

I feel sore today. Not sure if I do too much. I am going to do 5 minutes though. I do not have a garage I have an electric meter room going to do that as my garage as I store paints diy vacuums etc there and donate? in the car. I need to watch your video first though so I follow the idea and don't pull everything out and organise like you said about your closet the other day and I microorganise so really need not to today.🙂

My husband has the only key to the garage so I can’t get my hands on it lol. I’ll go do the playroom we had made out of the back half of it way back when. It was supposed to be a room for me but again, my husband the pack rat stores his stuff in there too 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️

i fell into a plastic recycling bin. i was putting leaves in it and accidentally dropped the handheld tool i was using into the box so i was literally upside down in a gigantic plastic container eventually it fell over i have scars on my face from the misadventure

I ❤ this challenge but noticing it's actually getting harder for me. It's partly because I live in a condo (apartment) and have grown kids, so when the categories don't apply to me or I know a bunch of future ones won't, I have to make a decision about where to work that day and that is an extra barrier. Also I substituted "hobbies" for crafts because I don't craft and found it really, really difficult for some emotional reason. I guess time feels really important to me and I don't have as much as I want, and being reminded of that was kind of depressing?

Why not donate the building stuff to habitat for humanity. People go there for this type of thing. Quit buying. Recycle. Resuse!

make sure Granny or Grandpa have a chair near the recycling bin I guess.

Ve a story. Working in my yard, came across a bad snake, I killed with a shovel and put it in the green recycle can. As I was pushing the can to the front curb. I tripped, the can fell, I fell, and I landed face to face with the snake inside the can. Karma??
