As someone with depression, I struggle a lot with the “you’re never done”. I already find it hard with things like dishes and cooking. I cannot imagine decluttering regularly too! I did some decluttering recently and I will try to keep going but often I just don’t have the energy. I need a clean and organised home to feel better because when everything is dirty it just makes the depression worse, but I also need something that’s easy to contain. I changed some of my habits which already made it much better, I have dropping zones and I don’t leave a room empty-handed, I empty the dish washer while I am waiting for the coffee machine to make my coffee in the morning and I reduced working time which gives me the freedom to clean one day and still have two days for recovering. And that works well in minor episodes or when I am okay. But for really bad episodes nothing helps. And even for minor episodes decluttering is very exhausting. Bringing out garbage is already exhausting
I am changing everything in the flat atm so it works for me instead of me running after a weird system I thought I have to follow. My life got sooooo much easier! Thank you! Just creating dropping zones where I usually drop things instead of always getting frustrated that I dropped something and forgot to tidy up later changed so much for me
I have taken several cruises and I understand what you are saying about the age thing. My first ever cruise was to Jamaica and I simply hated it, because it was non-stop loud music and drinking, plus little kids. But then, when I went to Antarctica most of the guests were over 60, myself included. Fortunately there were no screaming kids. My attention however was with the surroundings, I was totally absorbed in my destination. It was truly the highlight of my life. So, maybe you might want to ask yourself what it is you want out of the cruise. I have little interest in socializing, but it sounds to me that you do. You might find something in a cruise to Alaska. I have been there twice and it seemed to be mostly middle aged people on those cruises, and some children and some oldsters as well. If you go in the summer, kids are out of school and might be more apt to be on the ship. If you decide on a destination you are interested in, check out the activities offered and by all means take the shore excursions. The cruise description should inform you of the ship's indoor activities. Hope this helps.
This advice would be beneficial to everyone, not just ADHDers. I lived in a 2 storey house for decades and applied those same principles. Saves a lot of walking up and downstairs 😊
I wanna cry because I just love you! The content is a blessing and I ordered so many things off of ClutterBug website. I’m so excited! I thought about laminating the print and using dry erasers so I could keep reusing them! Will let everyone know how it works out! Best of luck to everyone💕🙏🏻
I really enjoy your tips especially when our homes in Singapore are small given that we are an island city country. Your tips are so practical and your sunny personality makes it easier for me to be ruthless without crying or hoarding over items that are no longer functional. Love your functional directions in assisting us to declutter our homes, mind, body and soul too! I watched your videos all the time so that I may constantly evolve our homes to be more liveable or when an area becomes uncomfortably full of crap. By the way, I have never been on a cruise myself because I have very little romance with food and thus the idea of being restrained for feasting and activities is not my cuppa…. Thanks a million!
Norwegion is great for families. It is not formal, you don't have to dress up unless you want to. My kids used to like Norwegion. I did a few Princess trips with my spouse and we had fun, but we had more fun when we werent expected to get dressed up. Casual suits us better. Kids need activities and not always disney. I don't want disney all over my vacation either. So that may be one to look into.
I like Celebrity best but you'd probably like Royal Caribbean which has a kids program so the kids are in their own area mostly, and lots of physical activities for adults. Great recommendations here -- task zoning is great.
I agree with lots, lots if your “no buy” items, but I think it’s important for EVERYONE to have some extra food and water stored for emergency situations (Covid, big snow storms , unexpected road closures, etc.). I suggest a minimum of two weeks’ worth. The peace of mind is priceless!! And I’m sure you can find space for it…!
We took the Star Wars Disney cruise in 2017 and it was fun. They have plenty of activities for kids. We all had a blast. All the ice cream, sodas and food on the top deck was free. Movies every night. My daughter took a drawing class. The different dining rooms were different themes and it was just fun.
Cass - I started on meds but in SC the pharmacies see NO Reason to have a controlled substance u til I walk in to pick it up. First time it happened I called my doc and asked What the HE!! is Going ON? She informed me that was my Natural Brain function without the meds. I thought I wud go NUTS with all the chatter and distractibility! Since this happened FOUR MONTHS in a ROW! I have up. I use natural ‘remedies’ that are a Real help for me, mostly homeopathic, and they REALLY help me focus. Wud I use meds? If I CUD Use meds - YES! But they aren’t reliably available, so I am not gto go insane for 3 days a month - at 77? NOPE! Been there, Done that, THOSE Years will NOT happen again! 😄🤣😂😄
I like to "test drive" what kinds of containers I need by reusing boxes. Whatever boxes are working well eventually get replaced with containers when the box gets worn out or too annoying to look at. It also means my "doom" boxes are cardboard, and thus get torn down and recycled before it has a chance to fill back up again. I am a full-blown Bee, and not an aesthetic one at that, so my bigger problem is wanting to adapt my space to my possessions instead of getting rid of the "I haven't needed this after 2 years, but what if I will need it next month?" and half-finished craft project items.
I definitely agree with the band-aid solution point to piles! I'm a bit of a pile-er. Things have a tendency to collect in piles around my room. But one thing I've definitely learned is to restrict the amount of available surface space in my room. I used to have a desk that was only used as surface space for piles. Once I got rid of the desk and instead put up a cubicle shelf, issue solved!
I really enjoyed this video. I believe I'm a lady bug? I stuff but my house is still cluttered. We moved from Florida in Oct to NM and it all happened so fast that we didn't have time to purge. We had a moving van. My 36 yr old daughter passed in Oct 2021, and my grief has also been a paralyzing factor ever since, and in my new house. I'm finally getting the energy/inspiration to take care of my house. Most of the food put in the moving van has to now be tossed because it was stored on the truck for 10 days in the heat. I have to go through all of that now. I just took pictures of big item things we don't need to sell them on FB marketplace. That's inspiring me. Thank you for your professional videos with ideas and inspiration. I love your personality.
I never buy napkins or kleenex either. I do disagree about the kitchen gadgets, though. I obsessively use my kitchen-aid and my vitamix, and I've saved so much more money making smoothies and baked goods at home than getting them from restaurants. My husband uses the rice cooker multiple times a week. We both use the kureig daily.
Lids❤ The only thing I add to this discussion is …. I get the same size boxes at Costco with clickable LIDS on them & love the dust control. You’re awesome.
I’m working on just doing it good enough! Key words… JUST DOING!! ❤ When I announced this at an HR workshop (where they asked us what we are working on)… I got a lot of strange stares. 🤣 So….. going forward, I will keep my PERSONAL goals separate from my PROFESSIONAL goals! 😆
Everything I clear or declutter a space my husband sees it as an open invitation to put his crap there. He has hoarding tendencies and has to have piles everywhere.
I use mouth guards at night! I don't think I grind per se, but I CLENCH. Ugh. SO glad I found mouth guards... I use the semi-disposable ones from Plackers.
A cruise is my idea of a nightmare. It is a floating boat full of a city full of strangers all competing for the same resources. Kinda like "Survivor at Sea.". I don't need organized activities, I am a self starter. I don't need to pay for a cruise to get a massage or attend a seminar. Just not my cup of tea or coffee. Affluent seniors go on cruises because they are the demographic who can afford them. They are the last generation with pension plans instead of 401Ks.
Norwegian! is less old, without the crazy 20 somethings partying, and there was kids, teens, and family stuff- contained- so you didn't have to be around children if you didn't want to be. Was my first cruise and it was a great experience, there were different shows every night, comedy, karaoke, different bar areas, adult only spaces, a beautiful spa, a casino, no parent teen area, library, game room, live music, so much going on all over the ship...
I love you so much. You’ve changed my life for the better… but you cannot convince me it’s okay to have fake flowers/plants in my house 😂 I’m a crazy plant lady and fake plants are my biggest pet peeve lol
