I've been sitting on my dead iMac for three years and came upon your solution today in 2023. This was so simple, I could kick myself! Thank you for showing me an easy way to get my iMac running once again. A little bit destructive but elegant in its simplicity!
Thank you for your inspiration!!! This morning I was preparing to spend the day slowly and methodically taking my 21.5" mid 2010 apart to get to that button. After reviewing the videos I had found months ago, I came across yours. The idea of aluminum dust flying around didn't appeal to me much more, so I tryind to figure out another way to cut it. As I stared down at it, it dawned on me... If it jiggled down, it might jiggle back. So I propped it upside down and played with the button until the "gap" felt even all the way around. Plugged it in and .... "CHIME"!!! NO MUSS, NO FUSS, NO DUST. 🎉
A super vandal method. Why wouldn't you have cut it all over into pieces instead of removing the glass being held by magnets and unscrew the display matrix off... I've never happened to see such a funny power button fix) Bravo! Many followers and happy time, sir! Thanks for the minutes of laughter!
how did you know that the button was the issue. coz mine isnt switching on but i am not sure whats the issue ? please let me know it will be helpful before i go and cut it down.
It could be the reason that your ram has faulted, do get it checked and replaced. Mine hasn't been turning on for the last 20 days as well, so we in the same boat 4:05
It's not destroyed if it's been sitting in your recycle bucket for three years but you just can't bring yourself to throw it out because you keep hoping for a simple solution rather than opening it up and risking messing it up completely.
