This is super rad. Really helps with consolidating expression pedals. Similar to controlling rate on the univibe patch, I love assigning expression control to rate on a high depth tremolo - some good volume swell-y action.

That's a good trick. I've been using wah and whammy but turning the effects on as needed manually with my FC12. I'm fine without autoengage but maybe that's because I don't gig.

Can't do it in the FM3, but using the pedal to fade between two amp blocks is a good trick, and if you play with the knobs a bit in the modifier pane a bit, you can coax out a 'middle' region and get 3 distinct sounds on one pedal. If dialled in right, it's pretty easy to hit 'middle', as it ends up being the middle 1/3 of the pedal travel. This gets 'er done for virtually all my songs - as most need only two or three distinct sounds to get through the song's structure. A lot of them go through 'scenes' like VerseChorus/Bridge/Solo, some go Intro/VerseChorus/Solo, a couple go Verse/Bridge/Solo, but all of them are super smooooooove and gap free. Thanks to Nicolas Desmarest for the video last summer for the how-to! I guess you could fake the amp cross-fade with the mix on a drive's output in the FM3, though, and get something similar going on.
