It’s amazing how effective just looking at the horizon is! I went for my maiden voyage yesterday afternoon (thanks to our country’s terrible transport infrastructure) and it was amazing. Dropped in, happy paddling on my knees, but as soon as I was out of view I managed to stand up. Wobbling all over the place until I remembered to look up! As soon as my eyes were on the horizon, I was fine, no different than standing on a train. That is until a barge passed me! Still mastering looking behind me without falling off!

Me and my lady got ourselves some sups and went out to lake tahoe, it was a windy, choppy day we stayed near a busy beach area and just practiced going from sitting to kneeling, standing wasn't going to happen haha. Managed to tumble and get tossed a few times but boy was it fun regardless. Hoping next time soon we go back up there the waters will be calm, luckily we live right near the mountain to lake Tahoe so weekend excursions are always available. Thank you for the tips by the way, have another sub!

Glad you had a fun time on your new boards even when the conditions were not that great. Sounds similar to my experience when I took my first board out a few years back. Choppy and breezy but I was too excited to wait! Smart and safe decision though on staying close to a public beach. Hope your next paddle on Lake Tahoe goes even better!

That's funny. My wife and I are currently at Lake Tahoe on vacation. Yesterday, some people on the beach next to us had a paddle board and let me try it. It was so much fun I ordered my own. I was lucky that it was early and the wind hadn't started up yet. Also, the owner of the board was great and showed me the basics so in a few minutes I was standing and paddling on my own. The wind this afternoon was really cooking. It would have been tricky.

I just did paddle boarding for the first time in the Scottish Highlands and I fell in three times 😂. I managed to get onto my feet [I am quite tall] for a few seconds but then woops, fell in. The instructor said I "had a good paddle" though so good news about that!! 😂 [I have some issues with balance due to a slight ear problem but at least I gave it a go]

As a begginer paddleboarder I could easily feel that I was very nervous at the very beggining after standing up. Also my breath was affected and I felt kind of stressed. After some time, minutes in the water I could see the big difference where I my breath was steady and I felt very relaxed on the water. Great tips here allowed me also to feel confidence faster but also I am aware that many things need to be learned and mastered along the way!

tip 3 the farther you are forward the more you go strait and hard to turn the further back you stand the ability to spin on a dime. you can paddle 3 to 5 times each side to stay strain in middle of board if your standing at nose you dont ever need to change paddle sides

tip 1 put the fin in the deep water and climb on at the nose as you push off your board will start trying to turn around while you get oriented to stand

Hey! I just picked up a new inflated SUP. The store was selling a rail tape. Can I apply this to an inflatable or only for the hard boards? Please advise! Also, will be watching your channel for tips. Thanks!
@ethanhuffsup
@ethanhuffsup Год назад
You actually shouldn't need any rail tape for your inflatable. This tape is designed to help protect hard boards from being damaged when set on their sides on a hard surface. Since inflatables are more impact resistant you can set them down or even drop them on a hard surface and it will be fine. I also don't think the tape will stick well when you deflate the board and roll it up. I hope this helps.

I went SUPing for the first time the other day. After falling off once I managed to stand up and paddle around for a while. I found that looking at the horizon and balancing with my core and not my legs helped me a lot. Was also a huge workout pumping it up. Found my new favourite hobby. The dismount was not so glamorous but we all have to learn somewhere

@ethanhuffsup
@ethanhuffsup Год назад
The length will be fine for you if you plan to do a lot of touring like you said. It just depends on how wide your board is which will determine how stable you feel on it. If possible I recommend taking a beginner class with a local SUP school. That way you can learn the basic techniques and water safety to ensure a funner time on the water. 😁

Your biggest mistake is not wearing a pfd. Would you drive car with our a seat belt????? Wear a buoyancy aid.
@ethanhuffsup
@ethanhuffsup Год назад
Thanks for leaving a comment and sharing your opinion. I truly respect it. This is definitely a big debate in the SUP world and no one is right or wrong. In certain circumstances, yes a pfd is recommended. Here are a few reasons why I don't always wear one. One, if I faint, have a heat stroke, or even a heart attack and fall off my board, a PFD will not save me since they're not designed to hold your head out of the water. Only a proper life jacket will do this and they're too big to wear paddling. Two, I always wear a leash so if I ever fall in I'm always connected to my board at all times which allows me to simply get back on it. Finally I always do a risk assessment. If it's bad weather (Wind, Heat, Tides, Waves), too much boat traffic, or to many hazards in the water, etc. I don't paddle. I'm not at all against PFD's and believe there's a time and place for them. Just like surfers. They don't wear any type of PFD unless the conditions call for it, like surfing big waves. Anyways, like I said I thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and I respect them. 😃 Here's a great article on the topic: supstandards.com/buoyancy-aids/

The biggest mistake is buying an inflatable board. They are junk and bad for the environment. Step it up and get a real board!
@ethanhuffsup
@ethanhuffsup Год назад
Thanks for take the time to write a comment. I appreciate it. There are definitely a lot of cheep lower quality iSUPs that don't last, are thrown away and because of this they're absolutely bad for the environment. Thankfully companies like Starboard and Red Paddle Co make really high quality iSUPs that last just as long as hard boards and are great boards to travel with. Starboard even plants a Mangrove tree with every board sold. So, yes on the cheep iSUP side I agree with you and don't recommend buying something that won't last. On the other side though there are very high end iSUPs that are great to use and can even outlast a hard board. Thanks so much once again for sharing your thoughts and opinion.
@cameranmanner4701
@cameranmanner4701 Год назад
Yes I bought a 10ft hard board and fit it in m 600 sq/ft condo. Glad I didn't make that mistake and buy a inflatable paddle board that rolls into a 2 foot bag and fit into my closet. Now I have a 10ft dining table and paddle board in one. Greatest Idea ever. Not everyone lives with mom and dad in a 2500 sq/ft home with double garage and gets to borrow daddy's suv to transport a board around.
