What size tube are you using for kokanee and where can I find them? Thanks

Some good info there. On the scent, sometimes it doesn't matter and sometimes it makes all the difference in the world. My wife and I did an experiment one time, we used four different types of tuna. None were in oil (I avoid it because I feel the oil will rise up instead of straight back). Each of our four rods have a different one. After a half hour one rod had 11 kokanee in the boat and the other three rods had a combined one hit. The brand is the ONLY secret I keep. I have even given advise on derby day! Thanks again for the info and have fun on the water

My buddy Roger uses the same tuna and does well. I try different kinds of tuna n scents and had good and bad results. Everyone has there secret and some days each will work better then we steal from each other lol

Long setbacks have no significant bearing on the action of the dodger unless you are turning, at which point the radius of the turn is going to speed up the dodger much faster on the outside of the turn or slower on an inside turn. Turning, circling and changing speed is a pro tip when things aren’t working. Overall the 100ft rule is a good starting point for anyone new to Kokanee fishing.. (Setback length + Downrigger depth = 100). Sometimes the fish are spooky and sometimes not so shortening/lengthening from there is appropriate, especially at greater depths where you can go really short. Kokanee will come to the cable at deeper depths within a foot which has been documented on many of my underwater videos.

Thanks for the tips, Alan! And thanks for helping me pick out some lures in the shop yesterday, I appreciate it. I hope they work at Bullard's Bar tomorrow, because I'd hate to skunk and have to sell all my shit to take up knitting!😂 Thanks again👍

@@AlanFong Well, I just fired up the grill to cook up our first batch! We set out with a goal of 15 fish to make sure we didn't waste any, and we caught that in about 2 hours. We caught them at 40 feet with the downrigger and somewhere around 20-35 feet with clip-on weights. It was so much fun! My kid was having a blast. Other than our dog eating half my tuna corn when I wasn't looking, it was a perfect morning on a beautiful lake lol. Thanks again for your help! We probably wouldnt have even tried Kokanee fishing if it wasn't for your videos, and now I think we're hooked👍👍👍

I mixed a batch of tuna corn and fished it 4 weeks straight 1st week caught all the fish 4th week it caught maybe 10% . Made me a believer in making it fresh. And the best way to land a kokanee is to boat flip it! when we have super hot bites we have put the cooler in the back and try n flip em in the cooler, if your fishing with us be prepared for fish in the face! Love the vids keep slaying.

Fresh corn is highly overrated, just ask a few guides and I have honestly used corn 6 months old, the key is whether it is lathered in oils and the secret preservatives we add and as long as it does not mold and is stirred up occasionally it can last a long time and still catch fish. Corn usage and formulas are a bit of a religious thing and what you have confidence with in the end. For me I'll have a fresh batch and whatever was leftover from the last couple of trips.

I personally dump it unless i go back the next day. Shoepegg corn is cheap and my time n effort are worth a lot more so I make it fresh!

Great video, Alan. Changing colors often is great advice that I need to pay more attention to. Also shorter setbacks? The improved action makes total sense. Will try this next time.

On measuring voltage you should always place that black probe on the negative terminal or on an electrical terminal block that is grounded properly to the battery.
@AlanFong
@AlanFong 11 месяцев назад
Yea your right but common sense in black negative n red positive.
@hitechdiversions3160
@hitechdiversions3160 11 месяцев назад
Common sense does not apply to all and an explanation is needed for those not savvy with electrical and why. You missed the point of running to a properly grounded point on the boat, not a cleat screwed into aluminum as shown.

Thanks for the video sir, going to give this a try. What kind of rods/reel/line should I look at?
@AlanFong
@AlanFong 11 месяцев назад
Use a UL kokanee rod 7-8' N Daiwa Lexa 100 LC reel with 8# test mono if using a downrigger. I also use leadcore set up as I mentioned in video

Morning Love your channel! Do you stay at stampede or drive back and forth? Any suggestions where to stay--- hotel --motel. Long way for us to travel for 1 day fishing. Thanks---George

I drive up and back every time we go. There is a camp ground right by the boat ramp if you want to camp out.

Is it legal to use trout and kokanee and trout scraps(heads and guts) as bait here in California?
@AlanFong
@AlanFong 11 месяцев назад
It's a touchy subject and you would have to check with DFW. My nephew fishes for leopard sharks with our kokanee heads and he been checked by the game wardens and haven't said anything.

Well to disagree with some of your tips, leadcore according to tests drop 3-5’ upon speed. If you want 6-7’ per color need to troll about 1mph which is usually too slow for any fish. And then reeling in 200’, good Luck landing a fish unless it’s hooked really good. And color, studies again have showed that Orange is one of the best colors fish can pick up visually at extreme depths.

Why does everyone say pink is the best color for shad ?
@AlanFong

It's proven over the years in clear water it works best. In stained water I like chartruse

Wow so much misinformation in this video. Fish can't see color? Yes they can. The dodger is lazy with a long setback? No actually the dodger then has freedom to create the action it's supposed to without resistance. Ripples change the amount of light the water absorbs? Doesn't matter, water absorbs all colors and only depth will change that. Yikes
@AlanFong
@AlanFong 11 месяцев назад
Fish see shades and the shorter the distance from the cable the more action on the dodger. Same a s leader length behind the dodger with a hoochie. the closer to the dodger the more the action.
@queefingallday
@queefingallday 11 месяцев назад
@AlanFong they have cones in their eyes for color. Yes the shorter leader for hoochie is true because the hoochie does not create its own action it comes from the dodger but the dodger makes its own action and the cable does not affect it unless it's very close in which case you won't get the action the dodger is supposed to create.

Just Google it. Fish can see color. Lots of research.
