I've had my little Mr. Volcano for about a month now & I really love it! It's a great learning tool. I bought it primarily because of your reviews. I have a solid fuel forge I built that breaks down for transport & I fabricated a bracket out of scrap angle iron that fits in the hole for the fire pot & holds the Hero. It sets up super easy & fast & I can take it anywhere. Thanks for the links to the upgrades.

I've had mine about 6 months now and have used it a lot. I really like this little forge! I intend to add the braided wire hose and pressure gauge, but have procrastinated on that. My only issue with my Mr. Volcano is the refractory is chipping away, but that is totally my fault because I got in a hurry to use the thing and didn't put on enough refactory. I'll be adding another layer before using the forge again.

I bought mine after your review and several others…it’s fantastic! I did add some hi-locks to the burner flange just to avoid any issues with the spot welds. Also, I built a PID/thermocouple control box for it so I can maintain any temp. I need. Automatically turns the gas on and off to maintain the temp. Great forge!

@Christ Centered Ironworks what turn of valve did you use to attach the hose to the burner? That didn't come with the hose itself

The burner flange concern was well placed. I'm working on one now that the flange spot welds came loose on. I'm getting ready to attempt some TIG welding to fix the issue. Hoping it all works out.

@Jared E. Scheidel : Make sure you remove the burner that you are not using and cap it, or the heat will "chimney" up the unused burner and melt your valve causing a catastrophic failure.

Thanks for the update. I did buy the better hose in your link. One thing I did was to put a SSteel hose clamp on the burner tube. That way I can just pull it out "quick" when I'm done. And-when I put it back in, it goes to the correct depth into the housing.

I just got this forge. It works really well. The one thing that isn't great is the hose (which you've replaced). I got mine this Monday, the rubber already formed a large leak right where it connects to the burner. I contacted the customer service, and they said they can help me. It was friday when I contacted them, and heard from them once so far. I'm expecting to hear from them again and get an update until the weekend is over, but hopefully they can help me out with it.

Good advice, not a timber bench! You would think that it doesn’t need to be said but!!! My gas forge was fixed to one end of my welding bench and I recently made a mobile stand for it which is super useful to get the forge closer to where it needs to be. Didn’t really think I would move it much but I do! Thanks Roy!

I have the hero2, got it a bit over a month ago. I haven't seen this anywhere, they say to not leave the ends closed up when shutting down and to also close off the air choke. The most recent instructions now say this, but the ones that came with mine it was not. If you don't the hose will separate at the fitting (thermal fail). It was a BIG leak that I noticed pretty quickly, so disaster averted. I had done all the curing, ran it in the morning and the fail happened when I came back from lunch. I haven't had a chance to complete the repairs and fire it back up. There was a bit of back and forth with Mr. V but in the end they agreed that it was a warranty issue as there was no mention in the instructions, and other forges I've used this wasn't the case. Now that the instructions have been updated, guessing likely not the case. Maybe the stainless hose would mitigate this problem? A friend has a similar lower cost forge, though a bit more $, and he doesn't have to remove the second burner when not in use, or do any of the other shut down extras. Just turns off the gas. I think it cost a bit less than 2x, but maybe it is worth it? just FYI.

I also have one. It's a good little forge. I rushed my refractory installation and forgot to spray the fiber blanket with water before applying the cement. It caused it to crack. It says that it comes with a new type of ceramic fiber blanket that doesn't put off any crystalline silica when heated above 1800 degrees (fahrenheit). It's supposedly safe even without any refractory cement. It just helps protect it and give you a hard layer on the inside of your forge. Also, after determining that the cement would be fine with a few cracks, I cured it. I used it one time to harden a knife then that night one of my dogs somehow got caught on the hose and drug it off of my welding table. Now it looks like someone took a hammer and crushed up the cement. About 95% of it is still intact just cracked up like mosaic tile.😂 It still works great though.

I bought the same braided hose that you did some time ago when attempting to build my own forge. Sad thing is the wool, rigidizer and refractory would of cost more than this Mr. Volcano kit. And a big plus it's made in the USA! Thanks again!

I’m viewing this one late, so maybe it’s been explained. While I knew it, you can really see the spaces between the wood boards of the walls. Is that on purpose, for air flow to remove the gases from the forges, or is there some other reason? It doesn’t seem as though it would do much to keep the cold out during the winter.
