My husband and I are addicted to watching you. We are both 70 years old..he has several health issues including being an amputee. As soon as we found your channel....he is in his wood shop almost every now instead of sitting in his recliner watching television. He does the designing and I do the finishing. Stain, paint etc. Thank you for giving us old folks a new lease on life.
That is so awesome! This is what I'm talking about!!! The mindset change. If you refuse to let your worst enemy (Yourself) hold you back then anything is possible! And kudos to you as well, a great support system and teammate is invaluable. Please let him know that I'm proud of him and that whether he knows it or not... he is a role model!
I am disabled and have lots of challenges... & then I have only a few tools and am poor... nevertheless you have inspired me...TY!!!!!!! I have to tell you in the event that no one else has, you remind me of how I felt as a kid when I would watch Bob Ross. I felt inspired, hopeful, that things were possible. You have the same vibe Bro. Your the Bob Ross of woodworking! I'm going to make some 'happy little' 'chicknic tables' now. God Bless!!
My 5 year old daughter was out in the yard playing and she decided she was going to run and jump off the picnic table....the squirrel picnic table. She crushed it like Godzilla going through Tokyo.
@@MatthewPeechWoodworking Yes. She would love to help build it and I do have the jigs to make it fast. I have a few still stacked ready to be assembled but have had too many other projects getting priority lately.
Love your ideas on how we can make money on simple projects. As my wife always says , when are you going to make on all this investment in woodworking.
What slaps me everytime I watch you is how much monet I've thrown away in scrap in the past 30 plus years. Since I'm not what I used to be this will be a good change. Instead of out climbing ladders, crawling under houses and having to deal with traffic I can stay at home with feet on the ground and no employees to worry about and make easier money. Thanks for the inspiration.
Blessed are you sir / Just found my new RU-vid home !!!I you have a refreshing nature that we could all use right now !!!! Cheers to future conversations!!!!!
I have that same Stanley Miter Box and saw kit. I bought it about 18yrs ago when we lived Charlottesville VA. It's now basking in the sun on back patio waiting for me to earn enough money from "smalls" to pay for big hairier version in the years to come, after they pay for storage building/workshop with insulation, heat and AC, a long with cool Grizzly powered dust collection setup, a great place to store wood-stock, enough land that my neighbors have drive to come visit....Yes, I do have plans, but God has used men like you to give me the vision.
A very inexpensive stain that leaves a nice, dark, aged look is white vinegar and fine steel wool. Just use about a cup of vinegar and a good chunk of steel wool and let it sit for a few days, maybe a week. The steel wool dissolves in the vinegar and you get stain. It doesn't get much cheaper than vinegar and steel wool except for stealing it.
Make a stain from strong coffee and add a bit of this vinegar, wire wool mixture. This makes the wood look real old. I made a kitchen table and did this to it
The pickets I find are usually pretty good and require little to no prep. They are dry when I get them and sometimes require some light sanding but that’s about all.
Dude! You’re the BOMB DIGGITY!! I’m a tile setter by trade, an artist at heart, and I’ve always wanted my own shop. You’ve inspired me to make a bunch of smalls. These have actually kept me afloat when my tile business started slowing down. Plus, I’m getting older and need to get off my knees. Brother, this is the beginning of my new business! Keep on keeping on, man. I’m a believer!
Thank you soooo much ! You have become my very FAVORITE YT Channel !! DOWN TO EARTH with REAL projects !! People like YOU are who make YT worth watching !! Thank You again !!
My daughter has been feeding the local Blue Jays raw peanuts on our porch table. They wait for her every morning and let her know if she is late. This table would be great for this. Its fun yto watch the Jays fly in and grab a peanut. I think this would be a great way to sell these to those that dont have chickens.
"To give anything less than your best, is to sacrifice the gift." Steve Prefontaine He was an elite athlete who died ( I believe )from cancer. These are words I have tried to live by. Although sometimes miss the mark, badly You are rich beyond your wildest imaginations, wealth doesn't always come from money. As a senior citizen I enjoy seeing your creativity and youthful positivity. Great to hear your kids are getting involved. Waiting for next show.
Your children are super blessed to have the support you give. I am too for coming across your channel. Not only for the spark in creating, crafting and selling woodworking, for you go the extra mile and give encouragement. I appreciate this quality and I thank you
Been following you for over a year and man. Its been a year. I had a flash in the pan moment and went pretty hard into messing with wood last winter and learned so much. But i slowed this passed summer, still had lots to learn. Fast foward to 4 weeks ago, my wife asked me to build her a simple manger for our church Christmas play. Easy enough, got a free pallet, tore it down and built one. Then my mom asked me to build her a Christmas tree she saw on pinterest. I did and my wife saw it and wanted one..and then everyone wanted one. I even have a local business that bought 3 and asked me to build 2 more! I am gonna build through the summer and sell next season..pallets are free at work and i can make the trees for the cost of 30 screws, material for a star and a lag bolt. I wouldnt have had the confidence to do this without your encouraging videos. Thank you for being awesome and thank you for being you!! Keep the informative videos coming!
i believe in devine intervention and let me tell you its awesome to see a man want to share his talent like you do !!! my son and i are working on these projects every day> I bought the plans for the chicknic table and have been fumbling thru it ever since. the first few where a learning experience but i am certain we will get it right yet ! thank you sir for the renewed passion and being able to pass it on to my kids !
I’ve been watching your videos for weeks now, and have started my own journey into woodworking. I love that you’re down to earth, and push the practice of “thinking outside of the box.” Thanks for the inspiration!
So in my mind I have re-created about 80% of your projects without any problems. One of these days I'll actually start building them in real life! Keep up the excellent work.
My first project was a 6 ft corner shelf. Man was I a novice. I had a circular saw and a jigsaw. Both were given to me. I took two wooden crates and made a tablesaw and a (sorta) bandsaw. My family thought I was some kind of genius, the first ones didn't work out, but I kept trying until I had something that worked. Now after forty years I have bought most power tools needed, but I still make some tools. Necessity is the best teacher. You may learn a lot of ways that don't work, but you will learn. Don't be afraid to try. Luckily I only have scars and all my fingers!
Thank you for all these ideas! I'm retired and the mowing and landscaping is put off for the season, firewood is all cut and split, now I need something else to do for extra cash!
@Matthew Peech. What an awesome dude! 'you are the only person that can get in your way', 'it's all about the mindset'. What a guy! Brilliant dude keep it up! And really appreciate your comment on why you sit so close to the camera. Touching. Thank you!
I have been watching your videos for a while now. I am thankful that i found your channel. You really have inspired me to get back into dong something that i love!! I thank you sir!!
Man I think its great that your kids get in the shop and have the incentive to make things. We need more kids like that in this world! All my grandkids do is play their video games.
I can't get enough of your great Ideas to make a nice project out of wood. I'm 75 and am starting to make a bunch of the planter designs and other items. My problem is selling them anywhere but Facebook Not much into setting up store at the flea markets all weekend. Grand kids time. There do you suggest trying. Matt you I think the woodworkers king at teaching us.
My husband and I are to thrilled that we found your channel. Have been looking for a way to supplement our income so he can retire from concrete construction. Can't wait to get this going.
Brother... you have such a great eye for breaking these builds down to replicate. I love it! I don't have the creativity to figure these out from scratch, but I'm learning how to follow directions to make things. I really need to alter my lifestyle so I can spend more time in my fledgling shop. It is rapidly becoming one of my happy places. Thank you my friend! 🤠
More great ideas, thanks for sharing!! One idea for cutting handles in totes or trays is to use a large bit (like a forstner bit) to cut the two ends of the handle. That gives a nice round corner without doing the tight turn with the jigsaw. The sawing part is then just a straight line top and bottom.
My wife has made snowflakes way more intricate than the ones you showed. She won’t sell them though and we have piles of them! She used old decorative moldings for most and I cut up old cedar fence 2x4s in thin slices too, already aged!
I've watched your videos and have tinkered with some projects. Tonight I looked on FB marketplace and found people who are selling some of your projects. They have done a great job.
So many ideas. So little time 😉 Pallet wood is great... I have found oak, alder, walnut and maple among the pine and poplar. Beautiful wood for the smalls. Thank you Mathew for such positive videos... inspiring.
As you continue to grow (and you will) the temptation will be to change and jump the shark. Please don’t. What you’re doing is perfect! You are giving us hope and the flame or the means to fan an existing flame. I’ve followed all the folks over the years and they were relatable right until the point where they were $$$$$ enough that they didn’t relate to me anymore. I’d mention names but I don’t need to. Stay in this lane brother and keep helping us. We greatly appreciate you. Thank you for what you’re doing mate.
@@morganb2367 sure if that’s what you wanna do then Matt has plenty of ideas for that. I don’t tend to make stuff at that low of a price range unless I’m using up scraps but if that’s your jam there’s definitely decent cash to be made in churning out smalls at that sorta range. Good luck 👍
I love all these ideas, but especially the chicnic table. My daughter-in-law will love this. Thanks for your creative ideas and motivation. Can't wait to get started.
I really enjoy watching your videos! I'm not very knowledgeable in using all my tools, yet, but I do crafting and starting to do some craft shows. I love working with wood and you make it look easy! Thanks!
Your videos motivate me so much I can't stop thinking about the possibilities I never thought about cruising the potterybarn site for ideas that are trending
Matt, I've got to tell you, I'm so glad I listened to the end. I heard you! I needed to hear that! I bought a $5.00 used table saw at a garage sale and have made many things I have sold to restaurants and wine shops in my area in the past. I'm going through a rough adjustment period in my life and I needed to hear what you said, Thank you brother. 's
I started using the lead pencil u recommended awhile back. I don't think I could use anything different now. It's crazy how many people love the snowflakes. 😆
I have made 7 chicknic. tables for my neighbor's , the one on the corner Has turkey's and peacock's using them. ....almost cried. Played Santa 5 times this year..... Real beard , You are amazing. Thank you MERRY CHRISTMAS. 🎅🏻
I really like how you keep it simple for anyone skill level. Your Chanel has gone crazy and you have stayed so grounded that’s what separates you from everyone else! Keep it going love watching all your videos
Man, Matthew, because of you I am learning and developing the discipline to even begin a project. I struggle with ADD and depression and am going through a divorce. Not to get all personal, but I just want you to know I appreciate you and the time you’ve taken to create and developed this channel. Thanks, brother. Merry Christmas to you and the fam.
Once again, great content, so THANK YOU! Not really part of your series, BUT I bought 5 cedar picket fence boards & made 5 Bluebird Nest Boxes & advertised on our NextDoor Neighbor App & CraigsList in our greater Annapolis MD area. These nest boxes go for $40~$60 each on bird web sites. I sold for $15.00 each. Within a a day, I sold all five, have cranked out 10 more & have ppl ordering 5 at a time. Mind you one fence picket. We now have a spread sheet on how many “orders” we have. My thought - make your sale price good for you & your customers. Christmas rush, but many ppl like birds! 🦉🦃
Just a quick up-date. I’m well over 50 orders completed & have also built two bird feeders for bird house customers. Fair price, quality work builds customer satisfaction. Ive had one lady come back three separate times for more.
I come from a music background and the wall art piece can actually be used as a sound diffuser in studios or home theaters. They even have websites that give you specific heights of blocks and layouts to most effectively diffuse sound waves.
Thanks for recognizing that women are in woodworking too! My creative product is flying off the shelves even while still working out the bugs in the design. Most of “my” ideas have come from others so thanks for the inspiration that paid the bills while I found my winner.
First off wanted to say this is an excellent video fam. 2nd wanted to give some clarity on the one project you showcased. The "Geometric Art" that you mentioned is actually something that is very important and useful, especially for music producers. Its common name is "wood sound diffuser" its purpose is to diffuse sound so that the producer can accurately produce/mix/master the songs you hear on the radio and online. As someone that loves to do both woodwork and music production, tend to do most my woodwork oriented at selling to other musicians. But back to that project and reason for its cost, it comes down to the calculations and the wood that is used. Certain wood has better tonal qualities then others. No need to worry bout all that if just doing it as a decorative art piece. hopefully no one took this as negative, just some extra insight to help those doing this particular project to make the most then can possible by getting it looked at by the right people, and to give an answer should you get a complaint from a producer saying it isn't diffusing the sound lol. again excellent vid fam. look forward to seeing some more.
Thank you for your positivity... For someone who is "BRAND NEW" to woodworking, it's good to hear that you don't need all of the latest and greatest to start. Just completed my first headboard last week.
Finally about to get back in the shop. When Ian came through it dropped a tornado on my bedroom, tore up the whole barn and ripped the roof off my woodshop. Took a long while, but we’re just about back in business. Gonna be using some of the ideas I’ve seen displayed on your channel!! Thanks bud!
Thanks for the pep talk, Matthew! I am currently getting my shop set up to start creating. Your channel is the one I come to for inspiration. Keep it coming!
We have the basic ryobi homeowner set and the circular saw scared me at first. Now it’s one of my goto’s. Thanks for the community, we’re all here to get ideas noodling.
First off,Love your channel. Been a subscriber for over a year now. Just wanted to comment on about the “geometric wall art”. Those started out as sound diffusers in recording studios to break up sound waves from bouncing around the room. Specialty market = specialty price, hence $1400. It looks like that market is trying to get into home diffusion, and I can see why. With homes moving away from carpet and more hard surface finishes, it stands to reason that sound travels through the home easier. This offers away to lessen that movement. The larger the piece, the more affective. This is not to be confused with sound absorption, that’s a totally different thing. Diffusion just scatters the waves, making them lose energy. Anyways thanks again for all you do for your community and see you on the next one.
Matthew, thank you so much for your videos. For Christmas last hear my wife surprised me with a 23" Frontier sawmill. I have been having a blast with that but not full of ideas on what to do from there. I don't have all of the high-tech tools that fancy shops have, but enough to get projects done. She had been on me to create small picnic tables, primarily for squirrels, but the "chicknic table" is awesome and I can't wait to start turning some out. I haven't had the opportunity to watch all of your videos yet, but know how I will be spending those cold winter evenings. Thanks again and please keep it up.
