Yus My Dear, a perpetual £2 plus pennies postpaid item in Network (RIP) sales. Like hundreds of others I'm sure that's the only reason I bought the DVD. Utterly terrible. Just like Arthur Mulard himself. I mean getting his This Is Your Life cancelled when it turns out none of his family wanted to be involved because he was an alcoholic domestic abuser who's first wife committed suicide after finding out he repeatedly sexually abused their daughter.

I don't care what others may be saying, I''m enjoying these "worst" videos immensely and I thank you for them. I'm learning about shows I never knew existed and rediscovering some that I blocked out. 😆 Thanks too for including The Chair! I remember my mom laughing at it and saying it wasn't going to last and I got sad because I wanted it to as a McEnroe fan, hahaha.
@sirjedisentinel
@sirjedisentinel 3 месяца назад
Oh God! "The Chair" reminds me of another US game show. This one from Fox. "The Moment of Truth." Contestants were hooked up to a polygraph and had to answer questions truthfully to win a grand cash prize. But if they were caught lying, they lost the game. As the game went on, I remember the questions getting deeply personal (like "have you ever cheated on your spouse?" Often with their spouse sitting right beside them). In hindsight, it just felt really gross and exploitative

My reaction to that description of The Chair was 'you cannot be serious!'. Oh, someone had to say it. I wouldn't have realised that snake was fake if you hadn't said. It does look convincing. As a qualified health and safety rep who does lots of risk assessments I would hope they checked all the contestants beforehand to make sure they didn't have any heart issues. Had totally forgotten Yus My dear. With good reason. Not sure Arthur Mullard's manner of speaking was really suited to acting. Don't think I've suggested: Park Ranger. 1980 ITV children's drama. Only lasted about six episodes. About a ranger in a national park on the border between England and Wales. How do you get drama from that situation? It couldn't manage it. I recall thinking everything about it was just bad. One episode still sticks in the mind though. There's a nuclear power plant on the edge of the park. Anti nuclear power protestors are protesting there. One breaks into the power plant and steals some material from inside. They go on the run in the park. Not knowing the stuff is unstable and if they're not found on time they're will be a very big explosion. It was utterly absurd.

Here's a few more suggestions: "Some girls" (BBC Three), "Coming of age," (BBC Three) "Drifters" (E4) and "Big Mood" (Channel 4). I've lumped all these in together because they are all shameless attempts to ride the coattails of era-defining shows (namely "Skins," "The Inbetweeners" and "Big Boys"). There's probably a lot more shows where the elevator-pitch was "it's [successful show] But...with girls."

I remember being excited back in 2014 to see Graham Linehan’s new show The Walshes. Being the co-creator of Father Ted and Black Books I had high hopes, but I watched the first five or so minutes and then switched it off, unbelievably bored by a total lack of anything happening and an utter dearth of humour.
@CarysCreatesThings
@CarysCreatesThings 3 месяца назад
I’ve never watched The Walshes but that doesn’t surprise me. I think it was around that time that Linehan started to lose his sense of humour. Now he’s dedicated his entire career (and personality) to hating trans people. If you watch his recent “stand up” (it should be on RU-vid), it’s beyond tragic. It’s just him rambling and moaning about being “cancelled” for 40 minutes with a few cliched “I identify as…” lines thrown in. There’s no punchlines and very little point. I loved The IT Crowd and Black Books (apparently Dylan Moran had a lot more involvement in the latter than Linehan), but Graham Linehan stopped being funny years ago.
@niriop
@niriop 3 месяца назад
@@CarysCreatesThings I myself agree with Linehan on that issue (the Cass Report has basically proven him correct), but he certainly lost the comedic knack.
@CarysCreatesThings
@CarysCreatesThings 3 месяца назад
@@niriop The Cass report is a lot more complex than the biased media like to portray it, and it’s been weaponised by anti-trans groups, but that’s a whole other issue I don’t want to go into right now, plus it’s not relevant to this video.
@FranzSanchez-ky9up

To be honest, as legendary as Father Ted is, I think a big part of it's success belongs to co-writer Arthur Mathews and the excellent cast. The I.T Crowd was good, but I don't think it has the same kind of charm and it over stayed its welcome by the fourth season. Black Books didn't click with me to be honest, but I should probably give it another look as it's been a long time... What has happened to Linehan is sad, though. Whatever his opinion on trans rights... the way he's let it take over not only his career, but his entire life leading to divorce from his family is not just sad, it's worrying ; You have to wonder about his mental health and where it might lead. I think he just became more and more creatively bankrupt over time and decided to focus on what he does nowadays... once again, sad.

Another suggestion Captain Butler, staring Craig Charles. Even Wikipedia says "There is not much of a plot in this series" when trying to describe the episodes. Looks like they broke into the local secondary school's drama department during half term and borrowed the sets and costumes. Remember it being on channel 4 late at night and not even lasting the full series before being dropped.

I’m going to answer your question by suggesting a show that I think is a good show. “Chef!”, with Sir Lenny Henry. It came stateside on PBS in the mid-90s and I only watched one or two episodes when it aired there but I did watch a lot of reruns during the 2010s and when the reruns stopped, I watched the final season on RU-vid. I find it to be hilarious.

Paul Merton's version of the Hancock Half Hour shows it was abysmal . The Liver birds 1996 an attempt to show how the girls are coping in the modern society but having the women as old women didn't work . All or nothing at all (1993) starred Hugh Laurie and Bob Monkhouse . Hugh Lawrie plays a conman who "fools around with other peoples money" and is blackmailed by his boss (monkhouse). It was a 6 part series shown on prime time Monday 9pm but after two episodes it was moved to the "graveyard" 11pm Saturday night and dropped after three episodes .

I’ve got a game show to add, Hole in the Wall. I just had to google to check it really existed and wasn’t some kind of fever dream. The only thing I really remember is Anton du Beke in a skin tight silver catsuit and a crash helmet trying to fit himself through a weirdly shaped hole, which does sound like a nightmare induced by some kind of illegal substance, but the internet never forgets and that’s actually what it was.

If you want to talk bad quiz shows their is nothing worse than “Sticky Moments” a quiz show devised and written by Julian Clary with the fellow comedian and writer Paul Merton (who I am sure is glad to forget) and was produced by Clary's production company Wonderdog Productions. Also “Don’t forget your toothbrush” hosted by Chris Evan’s in which star guest took part in a "Superfan" quiz, competing against an audience member who was a huge fan of theirs to see which of the two knew more about the guest. Evans asked toss-up questions for two minutes, and would often stop the clock after a question to have a brief conversation about it with the guest. Both the guest and the fan brought a personal possession to the studio, and the winner received the loser's item (e.g. a fan of Paul Young risking his first snooker trophy, and Young himself risking a coffee percolator).

They wrote themselves into a corner splitting Ross and Rachel up and then never had the guts to get out of it. Those two never developed as characters after and just got tired. Monica and Chandler relationship did revitalise it a bit though. But it did seem to rediscover it's funnybone mid season six and was good again till the end of season eight. But at the start of nine all of them except Joey had become self parodies and staggeringly arrogant and unlikeable with it. So I left it after two episodes of that and never went back

Cue embarrassing ten minutes as he struggled to ask her anything as he had literally no clue who she was! ‘Follow your dreams’ not sure of this was the correct title but it was a morally reprehensible BBC show that was similar to Channel 4’s ‘Faking it’ The idea was to get people who’d given up on a dream to pursue a normal career and ‘reset’ so they would have a second chance. They actually made these people SELL THEIR HOMES AND POSSESSIONS and give up their jobs to ‘follow their dream’. They had them stand naked on a plinth in the garden of Television Centre with nothing but a small suitcase to signify how they’d be back to starting with nothing. The people involved in this show should be ashamed of themselves. It was on at 10.30 on a Monday which is where they put shows they have no faith in and hope no one will notice.

The 100 - a science fiction programme aimed at brain donors. The Brittas Empire - I can't believe you haven't covered this drivel yet. Doctor Who - the Thirteenth Doctor's run, in fact anything written by Chris Chibnall for this programme. Velma - everything about this plane wreck of a programme is bad.

I was never a fan of Arthur Mullard, he played only one unfunny stereotypical Cockney character in his entire acting career, which was himself. He also had a very dark past as far as his wife and daughter are concerned if the allegations against him were true, and I have no reason to believe they were not as his daughter maintained her allegations against him for the rest of her life.

I've never met James Corden and never had to work for/alongside him. If you have and it's true that he's a smarmy brat, you have my sympathies. However, ignoring the showbiz gossip and judging the show purely by what's on the screen, "Gavin & Stacey" is tremendous. Also, even if James Corden is a nobber, he's not killed or molested anybody. The way some people carry on about the chap, you'd think he'd held their parents at gunpoint and forced them to watch him eat the family pets.

I would like to make this video's creators and viewers aware of things about Arthur Mullard which might make them rethink Yus My Dear's inclusion. Mullard was a National Front supporter and his own son told This Is Your Life producers not to feature him on the programme. Mullard's wife suffered horrific physical abuse and mental breakdowns resulting from it, spending much of her life in hospital. He also sexually abused his daughter and I think for the reasons I've just cited TV companies won't show his work now.

I was half aware of Arthur Mullard's History... And he was not a pleasant person - But that can also be said of many Celebrities - We think we know them by what we see on screen, but away from teh Cameras or teh Stage they are very different people (Mike Harding - Well known 1970's-80's Comedian... Loved by many, Off stage... Shy, Quiet and Timid... Nothing like what you saw on stage or on screen!) So regardless of the mans personal life... TFOOS judges these by suggestions from commenters and if they are "Bad Shows"... "Yus, My Dear" was a pretty lousy comedy... Which is why its in this list... Maybe you could put on your glasses and reread what teh video is about... 5 MORE! WORST TV SHOWS...
@sajamor0811
@sajamor0811 3 месяца назад
@Phoenix2312 I'm well aware of what the video is about so please don't be condescending and rude. I'm also well aware a lot of celebrities aren't/weren't nice people and would generally separate their work from their private lives. I don't go around acting as a moral policewoman. However, I would say there are cases where what celebrities have done is so repugnant a lot, if not the majority of people would want to avoid their work. I've never heard one disagreement with Jimmy Savile or Gary Glitter not being featured on TV or radio, for instance. I thought this was a similar scenario and just didn't want upset or triggering being caused inadvertently.
