My "master" function is not working for sorting keys. I've tried it in performance and export and on all 4 decks. I do not have the 'mix in key' add on yet to enable camelot system. is this why?? also - fantastic job as usual. signing up for your course.
A video on how to use these tips (in the best way possible) on a CDJ display would be helpful for people who don't use a laptop (to for instance see all of those playlists and palette playlists in one screen). And have it be specific to the CDJ-900-NXS as well as a 2000NXS/NX2 or even CDJ-30000. I REALLY wish that Pioneer setup the 'My Tag' lists you create to be selectable right on the CDJ itself when you press the Tag List button for example.. Then select one of the tags you created and have it show a list of tracks with that specific selected tag --- again - right on the CDJ's display to pick. Instead Pioneer seems to waste that real estate on screen of the CDJ by only allowing 100 Tags and it being only temporary. The My Tag lists need to be available the CDJ from the select knob. (without having to search).
Wouldnt sorting ur playlists via rekord box in such way be helpful if u have a long set, like usually i create my playlist using these techniques and have more than one playlist on my usb depending on the slot or venue !but u have a point for long sets 🙏
Great and very informative video :-) really like the master traffic light feature for finding tracks in similar key (I usually sorted by key) the situation tagging feature is really useful. Big room, terrace, bangers etc. 20 mins well spent thanks again :-) yiu could even create sections with 1 min intro, 2 min outro etc.... ooooh the possibilities 🤣🤣
Why all developers and even most of the DJs goes to most tidies route? We ALL have our music on our hard drive in folders. Maybe House1, House 2, or RAP1, RAP2.. you get the idea. Why not Pioneer to finally come with a solution just to drag ALL your folders and from them to create playlists. This way the DJ definitely will know where the tracks are!
Another thing is, don't try to make your library perfect, you can make an infinite amount of folders and playlists. For genres that I don't know, I just put them in a vibe folder, or I have broad genre folders like "Okay it's not Ghouse but its gritty it goes in gritty like some other gritty bass house I might have etc.." Also it's all a matter of finding it yourself, I know I have some tracks that are defo not in a "future" folder, but I know if I look for that track il defo somehow relate it to "future". Just take it easy and experiment.
Hey jamie thanks for the nice tips and videos you allways make..im djing for 29 years so i know everything allready but i like to watch them and how you help the new dj's or the one that are stuck somewhere...you are a good guy and the videos will help them out for sure..you explain every well and send them on the good way to get started thanks for your time and go on with what you doing good help and learn them something greatz mate...

Knowing which deck is the Master deck is really handy when you want to do very smooth but also very big tempo changes. You can sync BPMs of two decks, set the pitch range for the new track so you can comfortably bring it to 0% or where you wanna be, then set it as Master, enable Sync on the previous song, play the new song and pitch up/down as you need. The track you're transitioning from will lock its grid and BPM to the new track, that way you can make breakdowns or buildups as if you're doing it in Ableton.
This is fucking genius. Yeah i see those options but never thought of using them. Also you know most importantly i never thought of knowing these. Thanks a ton man. Big salute and lots of love from Dj Haulix(India)
This was really helpful, thank you! I picked up my first controller yesterday so this has been a big help in opening my eyes as to just how powerful the library function in Rekordbox is.
Amazingly awesome set of tips! While I knew some of them, the others were great new bits of info. The pallet playlists are awesome, so are the track tags and the ability to highlight tracks with the same key. Can’t wait to use those!
(Quik question) How do you adjust you Playlist window in performance mode so u have more room to play around with the tracks? Hope that makes sense.... I seen u used the browse window. I'm talking about the main window tho on performance mode underneath the decks
Your videos is really good, easy to understand them even if I had been a homeDj for some time, just bought my new controller DDJ400 from Pioneer and it feels good.
The tip about intelligent playlist is really helpful and unique one in comparison with other softwares. It gives you the chance to save so much time from music management. All you need is to tag your music with all the info..
Great tips.. Worth to mention that the Intelligent playlist have a max number and it's only 128... You can not make more than 128 playlists.. Thats the only reeasson i use iTunes for the smart platlists (it's pain in hte assss)... The filtering thing, Great just Great
For my "decade" bpm playlists, I intentionally overlap the bpm ranges a bit. This gives me a few more options around the break points between each list. I have done this two different ways over the years. 1) +/-2bpm -- "108-122," "118-132." (Old method. These playlists covered 14bpm and did not narrow my choices enough. But, this was super handy when I had a more tightly curated collection.) 2) 5 & 10 based. "105-115," "110-120," "115-125," "120-130" (New method. This requires me to be deliberate and have a plan about the direction of tempo changes, but narrows the choices enough to be effective.) The overlap allows me to have more options "near" any given bpm when I am trying to find the next song.
I experimented with non-overlapping lists, so 110-119, 120-129, etc. The problem was that when I was looking for a song "around" the split between lists, like 120, I was having to split my attention between two different lists. That was a (minor) annoyance, for me at least. By having some overlap, like 105-115, 110-120, 115-125, etc...I was able to look in the "middle" of a list more consistently. Yes, that means that I have twice as many playlists as I would need. These playlists are all automatically maintained by Smart Playlists, so aside from having more lists, there was no additional maintenance overhead for me.
@@ilovemusic849 I have my music collection sliced up into many different playlist types, by BPM is just one of the ways. The BPM list tends to be based on "everything" that I have prepped to play - it's about 5k songs (ish). I am NOT as diligent as I should be in removing older songs that I no longer play, so my active collection is larger than it should be. I also have playlists by Genre, and by Dance type (e.g. the different Ballroom dances, etc). These playlists tend to be long term. I make short term playlists when I prepare for an event and I want to have some specific music ready to go.
The Intelligent playlists are pretty cool but I think the one I'm going to be using more now, is the Pallets - had a few interesting ideas that I wanna try out. Thanks Jamie!! You guys n girls at Crossfader have really given me so many useful tips, tricks and insights to up my DJ game. 😎✨
So basically what is the difference between a folder and a playlist in rekordbox? For instance - I have some intro tracks so where should I put them? Into a folder named 'intros' or playlist called 'intros'?
Though I analysed my tracks with MixedInKey, it's showing them in the camelot system in Rekordbox but when I am looking through filters the keys are shown in minors and majors instead of camelot. Does anyone know how I can change this?
Someone help please: If you use your itunes library right into rekordbox to organise tracks with tags, matches, cue points etc (for exporting to usb sticks to play at a club with cdjs), without impoting the itnues playlists into rekordbox, will it retain that metadata next time you open rekordbox and loads your updated itunes library (say a week later that you have added more tracks into itunes)? Big question for me! I prefer using itunes to build my library.
Quick question. I'm getting back in to Djing after originally being involved back in the early 90's. I have got VDJ & Tracktor & a lot of music on wav or MP3 but I also have a lot of vinyl. I am wondering what set up to get. I have a controller but looking to upgrade. Do I get CDJ's or stick with a better controller ie Pioneer? Also I am looking to additionally get a set of decks as I want to play my vinyl, in regards to vniyl, if I digitise them, will they sound shit if I play out in a club or will it sound as good as any mp3 I download from say Juno? I know it depends on how its recorded but can you give me any help on that ? Thanks
Easily the best video for djs wanting to understand the most valuable tools in the box. I really appreciate you putting this out, as it has helped me immensely ;)
@crossfader - is there a way to hide iTunes from your collection? I followed Holland’s tutorial to move off iTunes but I can’t get the old library to stop showing up in my collection?
Great information and delivery. Please consider a background that isn't blinding white. It is jarring when you watch at night and switch from the mostly black software view.
Is everything in your collection in playlists and folders?? Or do you just pick out the music you want and end up keeping it there.. I must of started organizing my library about 5 times now and it's not a quick process either it takes me weeks to sort it By the way check out my mix I entered for a COMPETITION 😁✌ mixcloud.com/dj_birdy_uk
Thanks for the great tips! I want to be able to listen to and organize my music in rekordbox when I’m travelling and not hooked up to my controller. I can’t seem to figure out how to do this though. Can anyone help?
Like it or not i learned rekordbox by watching your videos only. Any of the tips you told me i was not aware of that . But I learned it from you just a month ago probably and thing is i’ve been using rekordbox from last 1 and a half years. Don’t know how greatful i am. Thanks a tom buddy.
I usually make folders by creating my playlists on Windows. How can I expand my folders to Rekordbox rather than creating playlists inside rekorbox? Thanks!
Heya! I went through alllllll my tracks, tagged em and rated them and boy o boy that made a huge difference. Then I made folders.. key1 key2 key3 etc and collated them. Its amazing! Thankyou
Does anyone know a way to have your current customised column headers be the default when creating new playlists?, currently I'm having to set the columns each time I create a new playlist which is really annoying!
How do y'all deal with filtering by Artist when the Artist has an additional Remixer or Featuring other artists? Like Filtering for Daft Punk but if the ID3 tag also has Pharrell it wouldn't come up in the Artist Filter...
ive got genre within genre up to 3 times E.G HOUSE, CHILL then, Lietsfield then I organize them by energy level 1-3 but I find my self the scroll knob most of the session.
I thought the alphanumeric key format was to set key value to switch key values to a CDEFGAB classic, format, yet it says it right there: alphanumeric. Thanks for that one! Same with the the DJ Play count, might wanna start using that one also.
Your videos are always well explained. I’m new to Rekordbox and have been disappointed with oversights and lack of features (interest by Pioneer) compared to Serato DJ Pro. I suggest a video on why Serato is better(not perfect) than Rekordbox when it comes to library management. 1. Intelligent Playlists. Not very intelligent due to lack of anything other than “All of these” and “contains”. Where are all the common sense options? 2. You do a little cleansing of folders such as replace or delete a track. Intelligent Playlist does not update and can’t be told to refresh. You have to do it manually. 3. With a long list of folders and playlists, hitting a Alphabet key on you keyboard does nothing to jump to folders starting with that letter. It does in export mode but not performance Pushing me back to Serato !!
Intelligent playlist needs a logic update, they need to be able to add songs if (a) any of these rules have been met AND (b) all of these rules are met. Right now it's one or the other and that needs to be fixed ASAP Also, complex playlist sorting. Sort by BPM, then Sort by KEY. Dunno why this isn't already a thing in Rekordbox.
@@devvvvvvvvvvvv It's been in iTunes for years. It allows for more versatile and complex playlists that will keep themselves up to date for years to come. 1) Good Grooves playlist in which (a) genres contain any of the following funk, disco, soul and (b) are rated 3 stars or more. 2) New DNB playlist in which (a) genres contain any of the following dnb, drum and bass, drum n' bass and (b) have been added in the last month. 3) Good midtempo playlist in which (a) genre contains any of the following; funk, glitch, hip hop, etc. and (b) are rated 3 stars or more. bonus - wanna make sure you never accidentally play a bad quality song? add a must be over 300 kbps rule to the logic in every one of your playlists. Just because you don't understand the use of the feature doesn't mean it will be chaos. Besides, you don't have to use it if you don't want to.
Very useful video, thanks! However, I can't see my created tags on my XDJ-700. How do I make them visible? Or is that only possible on other (newer) models?
Great video, thank you for very useful tips! I was wondering if you could help me with the view of my library. So the problem I have got is following - I unchecked some of the column headers and dragged them around to my personal preferences, but when i exit recordbox 7 and open it again the order of column headers are back to default. Is there anyway I could save those settings for my playlist? Could you help me please, I would really appreciate it.
That was a great video, actually! I didn't know about the intelligent playlist! So awesome! And also how to use tags. But i'm kinda an ocd player, and i do loooots of library settings .. actually it's been months i'm sorting my library, then deleting ! Then again another way of sorting! Hahahaha i know i'm crazy😅
Excellent as always Jamie, great advice. Any chance you could explain procedure and order to update macOS Catalina with iTunes & Rekordbox, according to your webpage it’s safe to do it now but I want to do in the right order so I don’t lose my Cue points and loops etc. Thanks in advance and keep up the high standard of content.
Thx for the infos on Rekordbox, the review you just made is essentially for Rekordbox in Performance mode, I do use only in Export mode and use the Number 5 " Intelligent Playlist " ;-)
Is there a way to drop and drag the selected track with your playlist up or down to allow for ease of organisation to play and create and “ dummy ‘ playlist prior to finalising?? Would you use the ‘ Pallet playlist’ for this??
Hi Guys..Ive noticed a problem within Rekordbox..why do i loose my playlists everytime i log off rekordbox, is there a way to permanently keep my songs in the Collection. Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you very much for the tips! they are really helpful, however i would like to know if i will lose all the playlists and tags that i have created if i ever format my mac, and if so, is there any way to restore/back up my work in rekordbox?
All my music tracks are tangled up in numerous subfolders. A-Z this folder. A-z that folder. A-z yet another folder. I am still trying to figure out how to line them all up in one alphabetical order list similar to what you have. Also, there are a lot of tracke that I know I have on my computer that are not showing up in the list. This video is helping out but I still have a lot of figuring out to do.
So when I change the key to alphanumeric, it only changes it in cy collections folder And not anywhere else. How do I make it so it displays alphanumeric for my Soundcloud playlists?
New to ddj/ laptop rekordbox system.. mixing my tracks it seems my lappy wont keep up with the beat grid? Recording my mixes and hearing them it keeps cutting my mixes ? How do i remove this ? Like a lag ?
best Tips in case Management Music \ half and half time \ and at all best organisations of teaching approach. Crossfader is Best Guru !!! Much gratitude
Hi, im using ddj-400 i have a question, after i played a set i want to see history of the track i have played but there are nothing in my history section in my rekordbox. Can anyone help me :(((
Great video! One question: when I move my track's files in my explorer they seem to lose the tags I attached to each one. How can I move them in explorer without loosing the tags?
Can some one help out. I'm click something that put rekordbox in the sample mode but I can't find my playlist music. When I click on a playlist it says I have 18 tracks but they're not visible, what do I need to click on to put the music back on the screen?
