Trust my instincts? That is probably the most motivating piece of advice that I need to hear right now. I always give myself a reality check thinking I can’t make a film right now, but my gut tells me that I can.

Ryan Connolly, I’ve been wanting to ask you this question for the longest time. I mean, dude, you’re a freakn beast in film making and you’re a legend. All the content you have put out all these years are all BAD ASS! You are truly an inspiration for many, including myself. that being said, why in the hell have you NOT been picked up by Hollywood to direct a feature and why havnt you produced a full feature film on your own??? Thanks man, keep up the good work bro🤙

This is honestly how I film... by instinct. I find myself feeling like I should need a shot list but I work better without one.
@AllenFreemanMediaGuru
@AllenFreemanMediaGuru 3 года назад
I have directed music videos, documentaries, some indy short films, a feature currently on Amazon Prime, and a comedy in post-production I started Nov of 2020. I prefer to have a shot list and sometimes I sketch thumbnail storyboards. I used to try and wing it without those things but always forgot something.
@nictheartist

I think everyone works differently. I suspect that even if the shot list isn't for you, it might help people you work with understand your vision better.

Really good advices, thank you! I would just like to add that I also agree with David Lynch that a filmmaker should get the final cut, because otherwise, it's like someone else messing with your painting. Unless it's about only money, you should get the final cut if its your film.

this is fantastic, really. although i may be 12 years of age, i am working on my first feature-length horror film called I See You. the entire crew is consisted of tons of school friends (and a great friend from overseas, America that is) which has already built up everyone's trust in eachother. considering that i contribute to a lot, i also write the script which i send out to my friends and they give feedback. i am always trying to include the crew in my own way, in that i always let everyone shine through and be in roles that they are comfortable with. and also, i have a mild form of autism, which in a way has sort of led me into my own filmmaking path if that makes sense. all's looking ace so far !

A person gets so caught up in trying to recreate other peoples work, you lose your own personal flair and one day that single thing that once was you, becomes the single most hardest thing to try and recreate.

@filmriot

A lot longer than that. But no need to feel bad for me. I've made a ton of shorts I'm proud of working toward the level of goal I want to achieve. It's a marathon, not a sprint. Working on exciting stuff now, but these things take time behind the scenes. Going for it is always what I'm doing. Aiming for a target that I will absolutely hit.

Hey Matthew, if you're gonna be a condescending jerk, go find another video eh? And your insult disguised as Helping isn't going to be well received by the Film Riot fans. Please go Trolling somewhere else. I personally find this channel to be an inspiration to those of us who might doubt ourselves. I watch this channel every day to help motivate me and the Film Riot crew has never let me down and I owe them everything for helping me along my journey to complete my lifelong desire of making my own horror short/movie. Film Riot if you are reading, just delete this A (double "S") and think nothing of it. Your talent shines through every video and short you make. Your Feature will arrive and I'll be happily waiting for that day..... (but I hope it's a Horror....but I'm bias) Cheers!
@matthew3352
@matthew3352 3 года назад
@@filmriot You're a huge RU-vidr with a large social following. Doesn't that give you some credibility? If a TikTok influencer can star in a big Hollywood movie, not sure why a large RU-vidr can't get the recognition to make a movie--studios know there's already a built-in audience for you. I'm surprised someone like Jason Blum hasn't just given you $5 million by now just to go make a legit movie. Horror is so cheap, and that seems like the direction you were going with _There Comes a Knocking_
@ethanhegel8576
@ethanhegel8576 3 года назад
@@matthew3352 It’s a lot easier for a studio to make their own movie and just throw a TikTok influencer or cameo of Casey Neistat into the movie to draw in extra sales from their audience than it is to trust a film production to a first-time director. Now Ryan as directed a ton of awesome short films, which makes it a lot easier for studios to trust him with a project, but by Hollywood standards he is still a first-time director because he hasn’t yet directed a feature.
