Bro you have try La Perla #3 in Point Loma they have the Burrito 🌯 called King king huge burrito 🌯 and the burrito 🌯 called Oaxacalifornia Burrito 🌯 you Won't be Disappointed bro.
My partner in gluttony! Haha, it took grit and determination but we did it. I'm going to run to LA and back and then I'll be ready for the next one! 🏃🏻♂️
Might be too far away from the “city” but Mr birria in Santee is a delicious newer spot, some of the best I’ve had. And next door to it is Bad Hombres with very very good carne asada! Sayulitas I hear makes some insane burritos (I see you tried here). And if you want the biggest & best fresh fish tacos with an insanely large fresh seafood menu head to Bluewater off India st. 🤌🤌
We went today and it was fantastic! I had the borrego burrito(Juicy, tender lamb barbacoa, pinto beans, rice and salsa) and hubs the lamb special(Lamb Special Combination of one lamb soft taco, one lamb roll taco topped with crema & cotija cheese, and one rajas stuffed quesadilla served with a side of rice & cactus salad)! The owner was there and she was friendly, warm and inviting, we sat in the patio area. Definitely coming back!
I love Borrego. My family and I have been going there for years. Their lamb is awesome but so are their chilaquiles, mole enchiladas, green pozole., etc….its all delicious. It’s the best!
You gotta try this 🔥 taco spot on convoy st called El Viejon. The seafood tacos are a must try. I usually get the smoked fish taco, octopus taco and shrimp ceviche tostada. Their salsas are 🔥 too!
Great episode, Gareth! How you guys managed to eat all five of those burritos in one day is beyond me...especially that last one! That thing looked like enough to feed someone for an entire day!
I’m surprised you didn’t hit Lolita’s but that can be for the Cali… back in the day JV’s out by sea world also had a killer burrito but that was back in the early 2000’s
The Name of the Last one was; " Sayulitas " in Mira Mesa / They are the Ones w/ the Giant Bacon Wrapped Burrito ! " As is or was " before Newsom's Blunder ( @ $ 20. P.H. ) that Burrito was rounded off @ $15.00 per. . Whatever the Price is Now, if that Restaurant is still there, " Who Knows " ? ! / See @ 16:37
I come back to my hometown of San Diego last week … and this video did not exist yet. I’m now “home” in Arizona … and unhappy it’s a 5 hour drive to get an 805 burrito. 2024 goals I guess. 🥺 Keep up the awesome videos, Garreth. Please get part 3 out before the summer in case I go back that soon!
Thank you for making such content and doing the research for us, love the whole episode. But the best part is (and it got me choked up a bit) was the El Borrego background story. That’ll be a def stop next time we visit SD! Thanks again GL!
Gareth I have said it before you sure can put a big bite on that burrito. Wish you best health given the sand fly bite in the Amazon. I had a few ideas to share about possible treatments.
@@GarethEats Gareth thinking about the parasite I wonder if UV lite would help, next idea would be be radiation oncology to entire leg or chemo to kill off the parasites. Good luck my friend.
i'm from oceanside, living in southeastern pennsylvania, feeling homesick and finding a lot of joy in seeing you run around familiar areas! if you ever end up doing a video on san diego area sushi or seafood places, i think you'd find some unique menu items at wrench and rodent -- if you end up checking them out, i hope you enjoy!
Oh man, all of those burritos looked amazing! The pinnacle though was the end credits, when you ran into Michael with the salt and pepper (and garlic) chicken wings from Golden Chopsticks. The BEST!!! You have to do a video on those Asian restaurants that sell those (and there are many!) That is a San Diego thing for sure...and well loved!
You missed a spot out here in Santee. It’s called BAD HOMBRES. I have yet to have anything I did not like. They also have one of the best birria ramens from a taco shop ever
I have never tried sting ray! Never even knew that I wanted to until I saw Gareth's face light up, after trying that first bite! I feel the need to make the drive down to SD and do a Gareth Leonard food tour... it might take a week or a month, but it'd be such an awesome getaway! I love your face, so thanks for posting!
This must be a generational thing but when did you kids start to toast with food? My generation toasts with alcoholic beverages on special occasions. I don't think your "food toasting" is cute or necessary.
TJ Oyster Bar is a hidden gem in SD. You’ll never find anything like it. The smoked tuna is amazing…think of it like eating bacon from the Sea! Trust me, it’s the most mind blowing eats you’ll ever find. And their fish ceviche is some of the best you’ll ever try👍🏼
JVs & the Cotixan in Clairemont are my 2 favorite Cali burritos hands down. Also RIP to the owner of La Perla down here on Grand Ave who passed away yesterday. They make a great Cali also
Happy to see MJ's featured on this list, they make their longanisa from scratch too. Also happy to see Mira Mesa get featured here too. Rigoberto's in Miramar is my go to for a California burrito, make sure to add sour cream and guacamole too.
el borregos original spot is behind a candy store in city heights i grew up in that area and they did only post up on the weekends but it would be soooo packed so happy to see that they grew so much. straight from the hood !
That's fair. I feel like as a "transplant" I want to explore as much of my adopted city as possible. I love San Diego and want to share cool places to go and support small businesses in the process. I am always open to local recommendations. Hopefully you've seen more than just this video to get an idea of what I'm all about. 👊
Living in Mexico, the one thing I miss from the US are the burritos! Of the 5, I think I might like the borrego one the best. They all look amazing, though. Great series. Looking forward to the next vid.
