🔥 Supercharge your learning with LingQ: bit.ly/3zNC0dW ❔What do you guys think of the new features? Anything else you'd like to see on LingQ?
@Brambadger
@Brambadger 25 дней назад
Really love these features and can't wait until all of them are integrated into the smartphone apps. One other feature I would suggest is AI grammar explanations on sentence mode. Let's say you read a sentence on sentence mode and you know all the words but you still don't get the meaning, because of some grammatical feature you are unaware of. An AI grammar explanation could break the sentence down and explain all the grammatical features in that sentence.

These changes are very much appreciated. I do enjoy the ease of changing the theme. However I am curious about the feasibility of showing multiple languages at the same time (i.e. like Japanese text with the French or whatever language showing below each line) at least for the Lingq stories that are available across languages. I am trying to focus on French and Japanese and maybe some Spanish, and being able to see the languages next to each other like that would be great for making connections and keeping me sharp in all my languages. It's easy enough on desktop to just put two tabs next to each other, but the Japanese text doesn't line up great with hiragana and as far as I know there isn't any similar way to achieve this on mobile or tablet or wherever else.

This is great and terrible! It's definitely an improvement, but one problem I've always had with LingQ is that when you select a meaning, you have 1 meaning. Next time it comes up, you might just get confused because a ton of your words are super contextual! For example, I study Japanese and words like こと and 思う have many many different nuances to them that just depends on the context. Maybe this is super personal but I feel like I don't like the definitions bar closing when you pick one meaning. Sometimes you know it has these other meanings and it's just annoying to reopen, maybe have an option for that in settings? To keep the definition selector open even after picking one? If that's already a setting I apologize.

Thanks for the great updates and video! One feature I would like see is a quick way to sync the audio to the current place I'm reading. I typically add a lesson I'm working on to a playlist where I'll listen to it throughout the day. When I'm ready to jump back into reading, the audio and current page/sentence I'm on are no longer synced and I need to manually move the audio back which isn't easy. Thanks!

The app is wonderful and constantly getting better. Two features I’d like to see in my perfect world are: the ability to record your own reading of a sentence to hear how good you are doing. Another thing I’ve found useful (in audacity) is the ability to loop/repeat which I find really helpful for learning songs.

these improvements are great! I would love some improvements to sentence mode: after manually importing (mostly RU-vid but other sources too) sentences frequently get split up into fragments. when I enable sentence mode it really only shows part of a sentence. this makes learning quite cumbersome. It can also lead to mistranslations due to "missing" context.

Amazing! I use lingQ for more than 10 years, and keep my bi-yearly subscriptions active :). LingQ is helping me to reach my fifth language soon, while I have fun with other languages. One thing I miss, is a very simple feature that would be the possibility of organizing/filtering the languages I learn, ordered per known words or level. I could chose to start with the ones I know less for example, more easily. Would the LingQ team consider that?

This new function is great! Sometimes the app simply didn't provide the correct translation and had to an online dictionary to find. Right now, it's correct probably 93% of the time. Congratulations to the team! But one thing I don't really like in LingQ is that the audio generation is way too fast. Of course we can select the speed in which the text is read by the app, but for some reason the reading AI doesn't consider commas when generating text, so the reading cadence is way off. Just a small critique

The first lessons with this ai function worked really well. It does find the right meaning in the context and thus helps to add more possible translations for words with many different meanings. User created translations of the words often show the most common translation for a given word but not always the one that fits to the context. One thing that user based translations still do better is adding grammatical info about the word. I study Russian and I always save the translation that includes information like (Gen. Pl. masc.) to always get reminded what ending is which case or conjugation or tense etc so that I learn it without having to look for hours on endless tables in grammar books. Is there a way to provide this kind of grammar info with the AI function? Often I see user based translations with wrong or incomplete grammar info, so I have to manually look the word up at Wiktionary where every possible form of the word is shown perfectly and then add it to the LingQ.

When it comes to Japanese (specifically Kanji) I find that there is a lot of furigana / questionable translations due to the possibility for several readings which is based on context. I think that this update will resolve the actual translation portion of my problem. I am curious if it will fix the furigana that appears over the kanji. I currently have to go back to the audio, find the place that word / phrase appears and listen to ensure I get the proper reading, even though I can't update it at all. If you could make an adjustment to this to help I would greatly appreciate it! Finally numbers. Japanese is insane for different ways to use numbers with the various counters and what not. Would really like to see this added so I can learn days of weeks, quantity of things, etc. Thanks!

Translation is so much better with this context AI method. One thing I still find difficult to track is if I need to select a phrase. It only lets me do 'Google Translate' but it does not add to the vocabulary.

@@LingQCentral Thank you. I think you are referring to the pop up which shows up when we click on a single word or select a brief phrase (up to 8 or 9 words). @pauld88

I’ve found that listening mode (the one with autoscroll) is actually better for extensive reading than regular reading mode. I do most of my reading in listening mode, so I don’t have to scroll through each page, and so I won’t get distracted looking up words, unlike when reading intensively when looking up words is essential. Also I turn off the blue/yellow settings since it’s distracting. I just what to focus squarely on reading as many words and maximize input. One problem is listening mode doesn’t count towards reading, even though reading is exactly what I’m doing. Maybe I’m doing it wrong.

I only use the desktop browser Chrome. I found out that playing RU-vid videos as audio often does not count in the system at all. It calculates only by text proportionally, so if I listen to a podcast on the mobile app as a RU-vid video, it doesn't count at all - zero. Regarding activity, my weekly time is 09:06, but I don't know if that's in minutes or hours. So I can't say whether it's less or more.
