Simple facts from a cold water pore vis cave diver.... When buying think that you can never have too much light, start with 5000 lumens. Make sure that you can adjust it though. If the water had lots of particles you can reduce back scattering in low visibly. Always wide beam. If your worried about blindly then you don't know how to use a torch. More powerful and wider is better than less power and narrow. Spotlighting means you loose out on half the picture. Small torches with cables and large battery packs are great value on the used market but are old school. Modern is simpler but more expensive. At the end of the day light is just light and the technology is changing quickly. Right now I would recommend buying larger, more powerful used canister torches unless money's not an issue

The orcatorch D520 is really a good torch. I have 3 of them in my ISE Allienlight and it is just a perfect setup. A lot of light for some hours, standard 18650 batteries and simpe to use

I love my Light & Motion Sola 1200 S/F! It is the best dive light that I have ever owned and puts out more light than most divers will ever need. I usually run it on the lowest setting but I remember diving with giant incandescent lights that used 8 D cells and weren’t as bright as a 300 lumen led.

I still use a Scubapro Nova 250lumens that uses C cell batteries. Just has so much juice, more than enough for a week of diving. Bright enough to point at critters at daytime.

Can confirm. The EOS20rz is a nice versatile torch for the not-serious photographer diver. Until something breaks. Then it sucks, and Mares has no customer service whatsoever. The main downside of the 20rz is the 26800 battery; it is impossible to find aftermarket. After the charging circuit in my 20rz malfunctioned and killed two of these batteries I was forced to mcguiver a solution to make it use the shorter 26650 batteries which are much easier to find and much easier to charge externally.

My EOS 15RZ has been on its last legs for ages. The magnet in the switch has corroded (replaced that with a very specific sized magnet) glued the switch as it was splitting (and the switch kits are no longer available), the adjustable beam turn is stuck in one position no matter what I do to get it moving again, the micro usb port is not working anymore (bought an aftermarket charger) and finally the bungee holding the rear cap has torn. Mares palms you off to the retail stores and they have no idea how to deal with it. Great.

@@friggincanvee My zoom got stuck too. But it is not difficult to disassemble and clean regularly before it gets fully stuck, once you know how it is held together. It took me time and force to figure it out after it was stuck since there are no maintenance instructions.

Anyone have any experience with the Volador Model DF-30? 3000 lumens on maximum. Rechargeable batteries. Pretty wide beam with no way to focus or narrow it. I just got one and have not yet taken it out.

Dive torches are so over priced. I will not pay any more than $40 for a dive torch. In fact I have a dive torch that I paid $25 for two and half years ago that is still great and goes to 40m with out a problem. Another torch which I only paid $18 for and it's awesome also. If I drop any of my torches and it's gone for good then it's cheap and easy to replace. Why pay hundreds of dollars (or what ever your currency is) for something that can be lost so easily?
