Snow or no snow, mountains or valleys, on the trails, I would hire you as a guide in a heartbeat. Your love for those places and the joy you show speaking of those places in Tohoku are the best reference anyone could ask for🙂
The problem for me is I'd want to do all of those hikes and just wouldn't have the time to do so on a single trip!🙂 They all look amazing. I have to say though as someone not very experienced with mountains, the nanataki falls hike looks like a great intro and there is something about the frozen falls that seems so special and magical. The fact that you help people get in touch with the local culture is such an added bonus. I have no idea when I might be able to, but I really hope to hire you as a guide around some of those amazing places. In the meantime I don't hesitate to mention you to anyone who is planning a trip to Japan.
As someone unfamiliar with hiking mountains I'd definitely hire a guide. I think not worrying/constantly checking whether you're still on the right track or might have wandered off trail, but just simply enjoying the stunning sights instead would make it worthwhile. Also some good stories about the local nature would be a huge plus.
Great info, thanks. WI boy here too living in the inaka, and Tohoku does feel like home. We were snowboarding in the Aizu-Wakamatsu area of Fukushima last week, and the snow was great, lovely onsen and sake. So many beautiful areas, I look forward to visiting the places you introduce.
I know who I'd hire as a guide if I had plans for a winter break in Japan! Glad you do guiding in summer too - I'll know where to find you sometime in the next few years!
@GoNorthJapan Just a little healthy binge watching to get my Japan fix! It's enjoyable to live vicariously through your videos, they're very well done and I think you could talk for an hour about a rock and make it interesting!
They're very good Bargins at the second hand stores in Japan, 2nd Street is only one. And there is always plenty of 2nd hand snow gear for sale. Take it back to them and get some money back when you leave or finished hiking.
Great idea! Also there are some cheaper shops like "WORKMAN" that might be able to fill gaps you can't do with used stores. Eventually I may be able to have the financial resources to rent out gear, but boots are hard as I'd need many different sizes.
I live in Australia but buy most of my gear at workman. Love it. Tip want a massage after a Onsen go straight to K,s and try out the new massage chair on display save me 500 Y at the Onsen LOL
I do backcountry skiing as well! I think I have maybe 3 or 4 backcountry skiing videos on the channel if you search for them. none yet this year. It's been kinda tough weather most of the time.
Ah, good question! But in this case - definitely not! There is a sulfur spring upstream, so there are all kinds of toxic minerals and compounds in this stream I would think.
