It's kind of sad to see Don here. You can start to see the possible beginnings of a health decline. He was a charming guy and very likable character. Monday Night Football would not have been where it was without him. He was also the Cowboys first star player. He had great charisma.

Ya know Aikman joking about Switzer being the perfect coach for Meredith got me thinking. Aikman would've been the perfect QB for Landry. They have similar personalities and attitudes. Both men are pure professionals and that combo would've been fun to see. On that note, Roger Staubach and Jimmy Johnson would've been a perfect match as well. Two fiercely competitive winners who never accept losing. Just fun lil' "what ifs" to think about.

Didn’t Tom Landry draft Troy Aikman? Then unceremoniously fired by Jerry Jones. We’re from Fort Worth and our family stopped being Cowboy fans after that. Landry was an NFL legend, Jones should’ve allowed the WWII vet hero to retire with a little dignity. Dad lived and breathed Cowboy’s football since inception in 1960. He never watched another Cowboy game. RIP Dad, Dandy Don and Coach Landry
@buddylove346
@buddylove346 Год назад
No, Tom Landry did not draft Troy Aikman but he did draft Michael Irvin in his last draft as the Dallas Cowboys head coach in 1988 which would turn out to be the first big piece of the puzzle to rebuilding the Cowboys to the dynasty they became in the 90's. Jimmy Johnson drafted Troy, Emmitt Smith and the rest of the players that went on to win the Superbowl's in the 90's. Coach Landry did draft Hershel Walker who also gets credit for helping the Cowboys back to the top of the NFL. Tom Landry and Jimmy Johnson will always be the best coaches Dallas ever had.

I seem to remember hearing a former Dallas Cowboy player talking about watching a post game film with the entire team after a big win. He said that Coach Landry verbally eviscerated the team during and after the game film session and afterwards everyone felt like they had lost the game 98-0. He then said it was not whether we won or lost. But who got the blame.

Look, I truly want Dak to win a Super Bowl, hopefully more, but you have to earn being on this list. I believe Dak knows that but many people have no clue. Danny White got the team to a couple NFC Title games. Craig Morton probably would have had a ring in Dallas except Roger Staubach showed up! Don Meredith had a crap show around him and the franchise was just starting. Still Don was great. This is an elite group of QB’s! I hope that lites a fire under Dak to go get this franchise a couple more trophies!

Craig Morton was an outstanding quarterback. He took the Cowboys to Super Bowl V and came close to winning. He suffered from severe injuries to his shoulder during the latter half of the season and still was effective. He later quarterbacked the Denver Broncos to the Super Bowl as he won the Offensive Player of the Year Award for the AFC.

Funny thing is that the team could have drafted Dan Marino in 1983. Dan was still on the board when Jeffcoat was taken in the first round. Jeffcoat turned out to be a fantastic D Lineman and was a quality pick but can you imagine what might have been with Marino wearing the Star? What might it have looked like with Marino under center in 86 after Danny was lost for the season instead of Steve Pelleur. What might have been if it was Marino in a QB controversy instead of Hogeboom. Of all the draft day foul ups in the early to mid 80s the worst one absolutely has to be not taking Marino whether they thought they needed a quality QB or not. His trade value alone would have been worth taking him.
