THE INTRO AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS VIDEO ARE ALL MOVIES THAT ARE NOT APART OF THIS LIST. Sorry if that caused any confusion for anybody. I love all those movies lol. Also, just a friendly reminder to keep the comments respectful please. It's okay if we disagree, I encourage people to share their differing opinions in the comments, but the second insults start being thrown around that's when you'll see those comments be deleted.

Personally, all Bond films suck ass. That being said, the value of a spy should not be how good they are at "kicking ass". That's a weird very modern convention. Spies collect information. They are not expert martial arts assassins.

Honestly, I kind of hate the "TikTok generation" comment about EEAAO, mostly because I think the lineage of its style is more deeply rooted in the kind of surreal offbeat antihumor of Tim and Eric and Adult Swim (I learnt recently the Daniels were responsible for the Broomshakalaka informercial). Maybe you can draw a lineage between the two, I just think its a bit of a null point especially given how overwhelmingly positive the critical reception was, its clearly got a universal appeal. If anything I think it subverts recent excessive blockbusters (marvel/star wars films specifically) quite nicely by doubling down on its concept and by being self-aware at the same time. On another note, I also think you're completely misrepresenting the pace of the film, especially given there are a multitude of scenes where the film slows down completely, most of which are the best in the film. A great deal of the action scenes are lengthy and well-choreographed, lots of single take scenes as well. Its not just rushing around without purpose, there's a great deal of intent. I wouldn't call it an art film either, its concepts and themes are pretty universal to science fiction as a whole. Its an indie blockbuster in essence, and I don't think its trying for the typical A24 fare. It sits alongside films like House and Ichi The Killer and The Matrix, also The Happiness of the Katakuris. Also I think the family drama is way more central of a theme than the optimism and nihilism, by the end of the film those grand themes of existentialism have basically completely dissolved away. I haven't really formed solid thoughts about this I need to rewatch it. Would love to hear your thoughts, good video all together. Agree on RotJ. Sorry if this is a little incomprehensible.

The Tik Tok comment was used in direct relation to the film's breakneck pace and super random ADHD style of editing and jokes. That's how I perceived it anyway

@@nathanmoore5435 funny you should mention adhd, kwan got diagnosed while researching the condition for the film, i hadnt even considered that as an angle to the film at all, it makes a lot of sense, especially given evelyns childhood in china and the amount of people from that generation who have been living with undiagnosed neurodivergence, it would totally make sense for the editing and style to be a reflection of that, especially in the early scenes. i guess i kind of just love that about the film, it feels so kinetic and fastpaced that when it slows down and hits you with the emotional beats its just so powerful as a result. and i like the humor because it is such an encapsulation of that period of internet skits and memes that were upon reflection incredibly unfunny, but because it is so earnest and honest about its own innate silliness and it creates actual characters, i cant help but find it incredibly charming.

@@Mr.Meme01Screenwriter here. It’s not random, all the elements that are set up in the first act of the film had purpose as they were later used on the second to third act of the film, no matter how small. The film is a little too long, which is ok as it explored two philosophical themes of nihilism and absurdism, and how Evelyn, who turned into a God-like being like Joy, must learn from Waymond’s perception of life where being good is the way to live no matter how crazy (absurdism) and that Evelyn who develops the same perception as Joy in the Second Act, must not only take herself out of the bagel, but also Joy who represents the nihilistic thesis. Waymond’s motif is that of the googly eye which again represent absurdism, where as Joy the bagel, that of nihilism. I could go more into detail why EEAAO is a masterpiece of a screenplay and film, and so your “opinions” are simply opinions, not facts. Hope that helps!

One of the biggest missed opportunities in ROTJ was Pietts arc. They build him up as an imperial side character who survived the last movie just to die. They even had a cut scene where he and the guy in charge of the death star refused/hesitated to fire on the moon because there were imperial troops on the planet despite his orders from palpatine. That alone adds a ton of interesting depth, but no, the Imperials are neither interesting character wise or competent villains in the movie, which is such a terrible middle ground that Disney star wars hasn’t been able to get out of either, besides Rogue One and Andor. I completely agree with you on the Ewoks too. George Lucas’ understanding of the guerrilla warfare/ the Vietnam war and the analogy he makes is completely juvenile. The ewoks would not have succeeded literally chucking spears and rocks at imperials, and the concept both completely defangs the villains of the series and completely fails as an analogy or metaphor to reality.

The original trilogy, episodes 4, 5, and six, are a very good, to perfect set. Closing out with Jedi is maybe not perfection. And I bet most of us don't appreciate any place where Lucas decided to go back in and try to edit the story into something else that still wasn't the right answer. But taking the trilogy as a whole, four five and six are very well balanced movies. I think A New Hope might have been the best one, because it did all this fantastic setting up. So much great setting up, that it allowed for writing of other stories, not even from these original three. That's all based on A New Hope. All Star Wars started at episode 4.

I appreciate and agree with nearly all your points made. I saw Star Wars in 1977 when I was ten and believe me, I was very excited to see Jedi wrap things up. I came out of the theatre feeling very lukewarm about it all. I personally think all the main characters minus Ian McDiarmid phoned it in. The visuals were great but, like EEAaO, that doesn't carry a good story. I don't watch the original trilogy much but when I do, Jedi is the biggest letdown of the three. And don't get me started on the Special Edition tweaks Lucas made. They're atrocious. You earned my sub today. : )
@brendonw456

Definitely didn't earn mine...the title says "overrated movies" and RotJ just...isn't over-rated. It's easily, EASILY regarded as the worst of the OT Star Wars movies. Most people treat it as a fairly lukewarm entry, by and far. In fact, when people do rankings of Star Wars movies, it's not uncommon for that one to get *beaten* by Episode III. Saying it's overrated is honestly being deliberately blind to how people treat the movie overall. When people rag on the OT at all...that's the movie they go after. The anticlimactic usage of Boba Fett. The whiffed stuntwork. The blatant merchandising (Ewoks). The rehashing of the Death Star. The silliness of the opening act. The goofiness of Ackbar's existence. Really the only thing this movie actually gets regarded *well* for is the climactic scenes, which is mostly salvaged by having the build up from the previous 2 entries. And I'm saying this as someone who's literally just...observing points *others* have made. I don't particularly have strong feelings toward the movie either. I don't have a bias for it one way or another. It's just, objectively...not "over" rated by any metric. The movie is not treated as a masterpiece. EMPIRE is the one that's regarded super highly. Then New Hope. Jedi is usually treated as, at best, being on par with the prequels. And upon getting to his opener for it...he echoes this sentiment. BUUUT...he had to literally, and subtly, redefine what "overrated" means to fit it in. He specifically states it's overrated by "some fans". Which isn't how people typically use that term. Over or underrated in pop culture is used as an overall metric. The baseline opinion of the movie is either noticeably above or below the observable quality of it. That isn't the case with RotJ.

Ohhhh man, first time channel viewer here and your intro about gave me a heart attack. The discontinuity between upload subject and your standardized montage is probably obvious most of the time, but in this context it looked for the briefest of moments like you were about to make a stunningly villainous list of hot takes. Yes, every movie can be criticized... except Aliens. As for what you actually listed, RotJ is the only one I've actually seen which somehow makes me feel both unlearnt and astutely discerning at the same time. It was my favorite as a kid as well, which in hindsight was clearly from the "pew pew" factor; it's certainly not bad, but I can appreciate the innovations of episodes IV and V more as an adult. I think it's fair to say that history would have dwelled a bit more on the merits of Ewoks and chicken walkers had the prequel and sequel trilogies not turned out to be such crack babies.

I don't understand the comparing you did with Raid and martial arts movies. That's not the point. That's not the point to compare with Hollywood masterpiece die hard. The thing it, you should compare this movie with the unfinished Bruce Lee's movie Game of Death. A guy navigating a building full of goons. This is the movie everybody was expecting to be made since the Game of Death. Just after The raid we got Judge Dredd that took this to the scifi setting. There is this specific claustrophobic intense action rhythm in the raid. As not having character arc, who cares. I don't care about movies being in the script manual, in fact I love when they aren't and are still great. As for anything else, I totally agree. By the way, Elvis, SW6 and that james bond movie, there are a lot of people that don't like them.
@nathanmoore5435
@nathanmoore5435 15 дней назад
Both The Raid and Die Hard are siege action movies (movies that take place in one specific location, in this case both movies take place in a large building) and that was one of the reasons why I compared the two. They're also two movies that are seen as being some of the greatest action movies that the genre has to offer. That's another reason I compared the two. And finally, I say in my review that one of the reasons Die Hard is credited as being one of the greatest action movies ever is because of John McClane and how well developed he is as a character, thus making the movie more exciting because you actually care about him as a protagonist. I don't think the same can be said for The Raid. I like The Raid; I just don't like The Raid's reputation as being one of the greatest Action movies ever made.

I didn't care for Joker either actually. Was that your way of trying to insult me? Lol

@@nathanmoore5435People like that are why I didn't watch Joker. Liking or disliking it felt like taking a side in the culture war. The worst thing about movies is movie fans. As for Everything Everywhere All At Once...It was no Swiss Army Man.

Finally someone is calling out Everything, Everywhere, All at Once. It's a bad movie in many, many ways but my biggest problem with it is the lead actor Michelle Yeoh. She's constantly playing to the camera and has that awful smirk on her face all the time. It keeps taking me out of the movie. I noticed this all the way back on Tomorrow Never Dies. They keep hiring her and I keep hoping that she will mature as an actor but no, not at all. There are two Star Wars movies; Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back. That's it. Everything else should have been direct to video. And oh, George Lucas SUCKS as a director. Deal with it.
