I know nobody talks about plus minus but it does effect a cat just as much as hits and blocks , and does effect the players ranking in my opinion.

Is the large focus on taking good defense early in your draft because one of the categories in most leagues is d-points? Would this still be the case if the categories were just G,A,PPP, +/-, Shots, Hits, and goalie Cats?

I think there are no d-points. D are so valuable because there are very few elite ones. and if you miss out on good D you're in a big disadvantage against your opponents. you should target at least 2-3 pp1 defensemen.

They have looked really good in preseason. They are TINY though which I think doesn't translate to post season success.

I think Markstrom is overhyped since the Devils aren't a good defensive team and Jake Allen is a capable goalie who might start over 40% of the games. Especially if Markstrom struggles.
