Coming out of a religious cult is like waking up and realizing you've been the only one asleep and isolated your entire life. Mind control, indoctrination, isolation, financial issues, threats and abuse nearly makes it impossible for victims to leave and start a new life.

Not to make light of your situation as a dear friend was born in a cult that practiced child abuse but now that friend is addicted to social media and news media, taking the same “us vs them” mindset. It’s scary how cultish modern media has become.

1) simple answers to complex questions. 2) New identity. 3) isolation / psychological coercion. 4) binary world view 5) confession /:blackmail. Having been in a cult myself, I fully agree. It took me years to overcome it. What really woke me up was being forced to sit helpless while my niece dropped out of high school to join a cult. Ultimately, I became an atheist.

@FactStorm - it's a long story, but I'll give you a short version of it. The cult I joined was a simple one; a church I attended once a week. My landlord was acting weird, so I moved out. He physically attacked me, and stalked me for a month. The pastor and my so-called spiritual advisor blamed me for the attack. When I suffered a nervous breakdown and had to spend 6 days in the hospital, they laughed at me. I left that state and moved to the Seattle area, which I loved. I joined another church; a fabulous one where the pastor saved my life twice. Life circumstances forced me to leave that church and Seattle behind to return to the state where I was attacked. I had to be rescued by my brother. Then I was forced to sit helpless while his daughter dropped out of high school to join a cult, complete with a compound. Even a retard can see the solution to this. She should have been able to live with me in Seattle. Any God too stupid to see that isn't worthy of worship. Especially since he obviously doesn't have an issue with the huge proliferation of cults in his name.

@@AuroraBoarder1Hello, I am affected by your life-story, living in fatal abuse or torture myself. As horrible as it is , it seems as though you could profit from learning what God is, and what the created human being is, so that you gte peace and also may be more fairIt is a human tendency strat´ngely enough, to make things up and believe them to be true when we in reality don't know what we are talking about.. I wish you healing among good hearts and hope you will find in life what you are good with, and maybe meet a true christian some day. It is tragic how it as the real thing, gets to suffer denial because of the evil deeds of false churches. And He came to Earth in order to help, love, show, save and teach us all, so that it could get easier for us to turn around and change. .

I'm a psychotherapist and am currently writing a book about the psychology of people who are drawn into conspiracy theories. Also examining the various techniques used to manipulate and persuade your victims. Also the many ways those skills can be employed. It's not always driven by bad intentions. The same methods are used to help alcoholics, to change the mindset of vaccine hesitant parents and I personally offer deprogramming a professional capacity. People need to be aware how very dangerous some victims become when they doubt and question their every thought.

Imagine a perfectly normal and intelligent person who, a few years later, blindly believes that Mohammed split the moon in two. The same thing can happen to people who end up believing that Jesus walked on water or was resurrected. I've always been fascinated by what makes a mind end up that way... I mean, say you're a teenager with existential angst. Just meet Sandy, a beautiful Christian girl who is always smiling, and you could end up being one of the greatest Christian apologists in the world... capable of impacting the lives of hundreds of thousands of people.

It’s crazy hearing about this on a smaller scale (cults). I grew up brainwashed by the Vietnamese Communist party (which uses the same methods as the CCP). And literally all these 5 methods mentioned made up my whole childhood, except for it was used on a whole race of people and instead of cult, it was called a country 😅 And they executed the whole “charismatic leader” thing really well, there were literatures recorded about the leader, about all the legendary great things that he has done, about how “almost god-like he seems” giving him a special honorific (the whole Nation was practically forced to call him “Uncle”- typically used to address an adult older than your dad or have higher authority than your dad) and instead of making the Dean’s list, you make it to Uncle Ho’s list no matter what school you go to, kids would compete to see who would get more rewards from uncle’s list, to be “deserving” of his honors/ sacrifices for the nation. There is literally a picture of him in EVERY. SINGLE. CLASSROOM. Public or private school, k-12, colleges and universities. Looking back, I see how big of a red flag that is when children especially, and pretty much the whole nation were forced to idolize a mere human-being. But being born into that system, I loved Uncle Ho with all my heart. He felt like God to me and I would sing songs about him. And I was devastated when I found out I would never be able to get accepted to the Communist Party because Grandpa was a high-ranked officer for the South Vietnamese military, and it shamed me deeply that my grandpa was a traitor and I felt such gratitude for the government to not execute him but only sent him to “re-education camps” It broke my Dad’s heart when I told him that I felt gratitude that Grandpa was only sent to “camp”. I found out as an adult that they came into the house, beat gpa to a pulp in front of all his children, took his House, his cars, all his possessions and money, kicked everyone out their house and gave it to a North Vietnamese General, took him to jail, and then physically and psychologically tortured him to the point of a psychotic break and he died in there without an explanation. But their biggest victory will always be that his grandkids grew up being ashamed of him. My dad didn’t tell me the truth about anything until I was 15 and we were already in the US because he was afraid of how I’d react and he was afraid that I might have been too far gone. Didn’t realize I typed this much 😅 Just wanted to share my experience. Not sure if anyone would read this but if you read this whole thing, you’re an MVP

It's a tricky thing, because people have freedom of worship and assembly. Only when they outwardly harm someone can they be prosecuted and whatnot. Unfortunately, most cults get away with it..the largest being Christianity & Islam. They got so big that's it's virtually impossible to address the dogma head on, because the argument will always come down to most adherents living normal lives without coercion.

Hey, hope you don`t get mad but I just want to share my personal view and my own experiences, and I am sry for the pain some of you had to go through... but after I gave my life to Jesus meaning that I acknowledge I have sinned and I repent. My life has completely changed for the better, I prayed for help and now I am free from smoking, alcohol, porn, pain and suffering, free from a demon (a topic for another time) I lost around 20kg (because my anxiety and depression is basicly gone), stopped swearing, I stopped treated my bestfriend and family horrible (even though everyone said I was a nicest guy for some reason) I have immense peace and understanding, my girlfriend who is truly a gift from God is beyond words to describe... all of this in the last two years. I could go on and on and I do hope that atleast one of you will give Jesus a chance or a new one atleast, because it`s just to good to pass, thanks for your time whoever decided to read this and I just want to finish and say thank you God for everything.

I've experienced the renewing of my mind (being delivered from anxiety, self hatred, lonliness, not wanting to exist, feeling worthless and undeserving of love, ect.) And I gave everything to God and my life became way better. I got a full time job at the age of 19 and I get to help people. We just started a Bible study last week (we only have 3 people but thats something). Anyways, God bless!

My parents who I love and miss removed me from their lives and have nothing to do with their grandchildren. Following your convictions can be costly. I still believe in God bit my standing with him is no one else’s business. I am faced with the same smug arrogance that my parents and lifelong ex-friends have when I’m confronted by atheists who think I’m an idiot for believing life was created. I’m tired of EVERYONE’S bs. Don’t pretend that believing life decided to spontaneously generate from star dust takes less faith than believing in a creator because for me it would take more.

God the Only One and True, His name is Jesus, His name is Christ, His name is Yahweh He said: my people die, because they lack knowledge. Jesus is saying that ignorance is parallel to death, and His saying that ignorance about Him leads inevitable to death. God desire to all men to be saved, and He created you free, you freely have to came to Him, because Him alone is what's True and Him alone is Life, of course He is the One who created everything and all belong to Him and you are made free. His word the Bible defines freedom like this: I can do all this but not all of them are good. You can willingly Not choose God but that's will not be good because there is no life outside God. You are free to eat all junk food everyday in every meal for the rest of your life, but certainly your life will be short. You can choose to drive fast because your late in a snow day but that's not wisdom you literally can kill someone or end up dying, but you made your choice and what weight more for you was not the consequences was the fact that you were late, even if you got fired from your job you could find another but death is permanent, and death without Christ is Eternity without God, if life here on earth is difficult imagine a petment state like that without hope. Today you can call upon the Lord and He will Not reject you, He is Good and His desire is your salvation, because of that God became man and paid the price in full because of your and mine unbelief, but He will not force you to come to Him, because God can't go against Himself, He is the one who created you free, you are free to choose Him or reject Him. The book of Isaiah starts saying that animals know who their father is, and they know the place that they can go to eat, we are made in the image of God, but we don't know Who our Father is and Where we go to eat because we willingly suppress the Truth. Sin separate us from God and because of ignorance we ran from Him. Jesus is the Way the Truth and the Life.

Proving his theory of phallic obsession is not always the case w oral fixation? I think he was a sex obsessed man projecting his own issues on others but I do agree with this particular quote. Not everything or every action has some subconscious motive or message. I am a proud follower of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. Many unreligious and religious Jews saw the love and unity he inspired and called him a cult leader, but he not only did not do any of these things, but he urged new converts to maintain their ties to their families, even inviting parents to their schools for weekends, and everybody had a good time. We were encouraged to keep our own personal talents and use them for good. I think it is important to look for religious leaders who are on the level!
@davidiscool3326
@davidiscool3326 Год назад
The late Rebbie (Chief Rabbi and spiritual leader) Schneerson of Lubavitch was one of the last great Tzadiks (genuinely righteous person, who is both learned AND preforms many kind deeds). One may argue that all religions are a bit cultish, including the modern religions of worshiping science or celebrities, but one cannot compare mainstream Chasidic Judaism to the types of cults in this video. Why? Because the entire commitment within Judaism is to improve oneself and get closer to God, THROUGH prayer, meditation, learning wisdom, performing mitzvahs, especially acts of loving kindness! Not just a one off course, but a lifetime commitment of striving to know God and to understand (a bit of) His/Her ways! Also, the absolute commitment in Torah to the VALUE and BEAUTY of LIFE, is very positive! This is why Tyrants always attack and blame Jews; for the Torah demands a commitment to fairness, honesty, and above all else, TO LIFE - not the agenda of Tyrants! Once a person is on a path of preforming mitzvahs, in BALANCE in their life, he or she will have the capacity to know God directly - no interceder required! The reason that we (humans) lost all of our Tzadiks, is that it is the will of the creator that we stand on our own, and reach out to God of our own volition! All groups are cultish, or at least cliquey, it's the promoted behaviour and values that they share, that determines if it is good or bad, harmful or helpful; to your life, those around you, and your spiritual journey to know God, purpose and meaning. All of that really does exist. It's up to each one of us to choose "to be or not to be" (- William Shakespeare)!

While it's relatively uncommon (compared to all the other woo-peddlers in this world), there are nevertheless still _some_ people who claim to get messages from extraterrestrials from other star systems or even galaxies, and a few of them have got small cult followings or at a very minimum people who fully believe them (ie. the typical believe-in-everything-as-long-as-science-opposes-it people). The funny thing is that this particular claim would be quite easy to give extremely strong believable evidence for, which could be corroborated and checked, yet they never do that. What kind of evidence? Well, have these extremely advanced extraterrestrials give this "medium" for example a proof (or counter-example) to a long-standing mathematical problem. Or better yet, for two or three of such problems. Proofs in the form that could be checked by the mathematical community. While of course still not 100% certain proof, it would nevertheless be extraordinarily strong evidence that this "medium" is at a very minimum in contact with _some_ intelligent being or beings that has superior knowledge, most likely extraterrestrial. Yet, funny thing, they never receive such messages from the extraterrestrials. It's always vague things about how we should behave, what we should think, what catastrophe humanity is facing in a hundred years...

I visited the Calvary church that thinks if you just pray to Jesus that all your problems will be solved when they don't realize science has a very important place. I am a Psychology major and I found this thought very uncomfortable .I am not letting go of the schooling I got for a sugar coated concept to ignore all of what I learned. I told them of Tim Fletcher and the fact that he did bible teachings in addition to teaching of trauma. That was a red light for me .I'm a mainline Protestant.God wants us to learn the Bible and more science as well.

Cults are not just religious. Nazi’s, Amway, communism, Walmart (back in the day), military (am a Veteran.) and many others. Football clubs sit together and boo and harass people of other clubs. Almost all groups ultimately seek to control at some point. Some friends, relatives, and relationships seek to control you. Gods word is simple and direct. It’s a choice of love and following by choice the word as written. Good churches seek to teach and coach so a person chooses to change. So if your Church seeks to manipulate and control you it’s not good. If you are not following Gods word and at odds with the Church, you should simply leave. If you leave your church, friend, family or relationships and they follow and harass you, then you should run and if possible move.

Since Universities are almost exclusively atheistic. I happen to agree with Diogenes when he is quoted as saying " I am looking for an honest man" concerning any university study. Most should be very skeptical of any published work from a university, since most peer reviews are neither credible nor honest. Besides when a University publishes work that agrees with those who fund the studies, they get more money. But again this is youtube and there is no real point to what we are doing except arguing. Only God has such authority to make that value judgement. Without him, that and any other value judgement is just a meaningless, baseless result of personal opinion. You're stealing the idea that truth is good from God and using that to presuppose God's nonexistence. I’m a follower of Christ, as the bible at face value with honest open reading depicts what the early Christian church believed and persuade. More often than not , ex cult members end up in church looking for meaning from what they’ve just been through and survived. What you have expounded on is so typical of the vulnerable person looking for truth and meaning. If they survive the personal trauma they’ve experienced in the sect or cult, it normally takes years and genuine love for that person to learn to critically think for themselves ( as Christianity proper demands). Good stuff , keep exposing cult thinking, The world is going cult very quickly 👍

@@vejeke maybe it would be like islam or Mormonism. Cults aren't easily made and they definitely don't succeed that easily and cults really have to have the person have something to gain from it. I don't know how exactly it would look like, but might end up like nationalist christianity. The biggest sign of a cult is the inability to question the faith, which even Christianity actually rejects (sirach 38th chapter in it's entirity celebrates the existence of medicine, blesses doctors, tells the reader to listen to the wisdom that God has given these people and even studying is celebrated in that passage.) I really have no Idea where the "you just gotta have faith" thing comes from and why it is associated with christianity. It's just toxic positivity. I wouldn't believe in Christianity if I wasn't allowed to question it or study it. Another thing the bible tells us to do is to turn to God in the times of doubt and to not just numb out the question, but to instead actually find out what the answer is. It doesn't call the person into blind faith.

Jesus Christ was prophesized 700 years before he was born and was awaited by the Israelites. He appeared as the consequence of Israel collapse with the goal to re-gather Israel. His coming was accompanied by hundreds of miracles such as spectacular healings, rising people from the dead, multiplication of wine, bread and fish, knowing people's thoughts. His death was followed by the earthquake. He spoke to the crowd and he walked from the village to the village and preached incoming and promised Kingdom to his people. He didn't set up any sect, he didn't isolate himself, he didn't enforce any dress code, he was not receiving any money. He never established any religion but taught about personal relation with God. Jesus encourages questioning of all things, researching of all things, investigating of everything and condemns stupidity and naiveness. He teaches that people's goal is to acquire wisdom. He encourages all the people to expose all the things. He is against hidden things. Does this sound like a cult?

Reason: following the fall of man through the action of Adam - a second Adam ( Christ) had to be entirely righteous - and had to die in mankind's place to remove the penalty for sin (death) establishing us as righteous before the Father. Jesus Christ preached forivness, no other religion has done that, not even budhism. All of his actions and words were the contrary to human manipulation. The most famous example of this being the wh*re being stoned. The major aspect of any cult leader is boundless ego. They think they are God, or his messenger - this, as expected, results in a huge amount of self worth and ego tripping. They start thinking that when they hurt people, it's justice - since it's the will of God. Now compare this with Jesus. He prostrated himself, washed the feet of his followers, forgave and healed sinners, and in the end kissed Judas on the cheek, just like Judas kissed him to indicate to the Roman soldiers that he is to be arrested. I hope this is helpful.

Hanging your life on the words of experts is its own kind of cult. 3. There are only two basic philosophies. Christianity and Paganism. I have chosen these names for simplicity. There may be a number of names for either but the point is this: there are two and only two basic belief systems. If you are not a Christian (I don't mean Evangelical) then you are a Pagan and what you believe is ultimately irrelevant: you might as well be waiting for the spaceship to pick you up.
